My first night race in the Miata! Thompson 2023

Welcome back to race weekend 3 of the 2023 New England Region of the SCCA, where I'm racing in the SSM class (Showroom Stock Miata).
It's my third ever race weekend, and this one takes place at Thompson Speedway in Connecticut, which was actually the first asphalt-paved racing oval in the US. Of course, we run the road course, which sweeps onto the oval as part of its 1.7 miles.
I struggled bigtime in qualifying, ending up 5th out of 6th in my class. Then I put together a solid race, putting me in 3rd place. Podium!
The heat of the day took a lot out of me. So much so that I ended up so out of it before the night race.
Then, as day turned to night, adrenaline kicked in again, the visor went down, and it was go time. Unfortunately, it was a pretty sloppy race for me. I ended up finishing in 3rd, out of 3 :) The experience was amazing, though.
Somehow I'm currently leading the points in the SSM class in my division. Let's go!!

Awesome and unique racing experience. Nice battles out there! Don't worry, backing up with a trailer is never easy. Put your hand on the bottom on the wheel and then move your hand the direction you want the trailer going.

Thanks buddy! That technique has been working! But then I guess I have trouble knowing when and how much to cut the steering back the other way. Shwatebber

Pacha is such a good track companion. Kind of crazy how the lighting wasn’t good, seems borderline dangerous without better lighting
