If the choice is between keeping your car or keeping your apartment, keep your car. You can live in your car but you can't drive to work in your apartment.

To me, yes, it says a lot about his character. Every home I had, I did the same. I appreciated every place I stayed. When my sister moved out of state and left me to see about her things, I also cleaned that apartment too, that's just something, I feel, you are susposed to do! If done correctly this is a great opportunity to see new places and decide on where you'll eventually settle down. Like others mentioned, only park in busy areas or places with security.
If you can get into a family shelter then help with deposit & 1st month's rent after 3 months of staying at the shelter, some even give out housing vouchers. Stay strong 🙏
I’m glad to see that you’re making a wonderful adventure, but It’s sad to me that housing is so ridiculously expensive people are having to live in their vehicle!
@@JonathanYentch I'm there too. I met an Hispanic lady yesterday that no one would know by looking at her vehicle or her that she's living in it and saving every penny of her unemployment. We both agreed we won't pay $1400 a month to rent a room where they want you gone or invisible. I'm either going to rent an office to work or get a bigger more comfy rig and travel for work. A lot more people are doing this than I realized. I met a young woman who lives in a schoolbus. I hope we can change the ridiculous laws that favor real estate investors over a human being's god given right to sleep 8 hours which has survived many thousands of years of evolution...so sleep must be mighty important!
This brings back very fond memories of my solo vacation from Florida to Montana and then into Canada. I had a wonderful time and loved sleeping in my SUV at truck stops, rest stops, Walmarts, and even some random places where other truckers were parked. Sometimes I parked on the exit ramps leading to highways in the middle of nowhere land because that is what the other truckers were doing. I was fortunate to be able to have the darkest tint you could have on my vehicle. TIP: In Florida, they have a medical exemption that allows certain people with skin conditions (eg. skin cancer) to LEGALLY have illegal tint on their vehicle. The very next year I moved to Alaska (yes, from Florida again) and was able to drive solo again. However, this time I had to sleep in my U-Haul and it was terribly uncomfortable. Even though I towed my SUV with a mattress in the back, I never used it. I did not want to be seen getting into the back of an SUV alone at some of these very dark rest spots. Safety first.
I really think a lot of us are just tired of over exertion in order to keep this or that. In some places it’s ridiculous and almost inhumane the cost of living. I’m watching these videos because I’m happy to see all those who are choosing minimalism.
Could not agree with your statement from a year ago. I started becoming more and more fascinated with van life not long before the pandemic started. The shelter in place really allowed me to spend countless days and hours watching other people's conversions and set ups and documentaries on people's own personal journeys. I was born and raised here in the east bay area of Northern California. What you said about what some people have to do simply to try to just scrap by in high cost of living areas is so true. Living in one of the most outrageous and sickening expensive areas in the country myself, I would love to have opportunity to free myself from homeownership and the concrete jungle I am currently a slave to
@Who Thru Poo I’m still disabled by my TBI and living in a very small studio apartment but may be back in my van soon for a few reasons but mostly money
@Who Thru Poo I understand, I was a process engineer/machinist for 30 yrs when my TBI took me out of the game.I’m on SSDI now and giving thought to doing van thing again. Tired of scraping by. I can make a fixed income go a lot further if I’m not paying rent in NY.
@Who Thru Poo My service dog recently retired due to age and health. He still alerts at home but is more a spoiled pet than working dog these days. I worry about him too. I think I’m going to try life without one after he’s gone. Haven’t decided yet though.
I got a concussion from a bicycle accident (at that time I was also undiagnosed neurodiverse). Afterwards I was homeless on the street for 45 days. Then 6 months in a shelter. I've since had 70 sessions of hyperbaric oxygen, so all healed. But damn not until I had every aspect of my life ripped from me. BTW, the HBOT clinic I went to was in Mexico City. Sessions there were only $13 each session for 2.0 ATA. Edit: I know it's difficult to gather the resources after a life event like we have all experienced. Somehow figure out a way to either build a DIY chamber or travel to where treatment is affordable. e.g. Mexico City: $10 to $15; Egypt: $10; England: $18; Egypt: $10; Indonesia: $5 to $10. One can build one out of an old propane tank, or concrete and rebar.
Cheers! Welcome to the awesome life of living in your truck. I lived in my car for six weeks. I decked it out more and now I’m going back to my car life soon.
Poverty definitely makes me get creative. I’ve lived in my car, in a 🏕 tent, an RV, and a shed that I turned into a cabin. I will be off grid again soon and I’m actually excited about it! Best of luck to you!❤️😊
I was in tech for 25 years, oilfield for 2.5 years and now trucking for 12 years. I have my sleeper set up with all the comforts and I quite like small cozy spaces + the freedom of the open road. A single person could truck for a few years and bank almost everything they make.. Some money in the bank without oppressive bills is real freedom.. I've owned 8 homes in the past and I really don't miss the endless money pits they represent.
I’ve been a mobile citizen since February this year right after I sold my house. My son is grown and he’s doing his own thing so I just wanted to go see the world. I love it! I save so money too. Safe and happy travels. Welcome to the club.

When i was living in my car... Park at restaurants or big parking lots. 1)Wake up early, Thank God, wash up, grab coffee. 2) have a part-time job. 3) shower at planetfitness ($10.a mo) 4) hang out at library or park. Save money. 5)Cover windows up. Sleep. Repeat
@@ry77801 it’s not boring at all. Especially if you have goals. What exactly do you want to do that you can’t do in your car to stop you from being bored? I do miss dancing since that’s my first love and God given talent but I don’t care anymore, I go to the park and dance lol 😂
When I lived in my car, my favorite place to sleep was outside my gym. (I have a really weak bladder so I need constant access to the restroom). I also made sure to sleep at a different gym every few days just so that I wouldn't look suspicious. Lol....
This. We used to ask the Walmart managers to sleep in the parking lots and could get our food inside and use the restroom but would shower at either truck stops or gyms. I wonder if COVID has affected the showering at truck stops/hours at most gyms as it has affected most Walmarts (most close now).

Completely agree with you. I plan on selling my home shortly ,just get out of the rat race and explore the US and see what there is to offer and find somewhere where I would like to settle down eventually! There’s nothing like that road to freedom!
Driving from CA to upstate NY was so freeing, I sold everything at my apartment (luckily I didn’t have much furniture) and packed what I had in my little Honda and went off into the sunrise with my dog. It was amazing!! Now I plan to do travel nursing next year but build out a camper van and drive more north toward Montana, AK, WA, OR 🙃
I lived in my car from March to Nov 2017 in PA. I was scared, but free from rent/mortgage and Bill's. I stopped being scared eventually and I felt good. Never felt so freely in my life, I'm 38yrs old. There will be a next time, and now I'm not scared. I'm ready.
Ive been doing this on and off since i left my parents place about 10 years ago. Being inbetween jobs, relationships etc, living in your car can be a lifesaver. The library is a good place to recharge your stuff with free internet.
I was homeless before😔 take it as a learning experience😌. I learned how to value even the smallest things. Also learned to live with the most minimalist . I lived off 2 pairs of shoes 4 shirts n pants n 1 pair work clothes clothes. I learned the value of money how to earn invest n buy. Read more n focused on myself .Good luck just giving some positive things to think of.
all the homeless are parking at the hospital so where do you suggest the friends and family park to visit their loved ones that are hospitalized? Maybe not a good choice sounds selfish
The thing about parking at a hospital is they would site a car camper with trespassing. I have passed out in a Walmart parking lot before driving from taking a 11hr drive overnight (heading home from a festival and helping a fellow volunteer leave early). Though I didn't have car covers I wasn't bothered.
Hospitals have plenty of parking spaces, I use to work at one, and on more than several occasions parked near the ER late at night when I was taking respite from an abusive partner. I always felt safe.
I was never houseless, but I did live a minimal existence at one time and everything I owned fit in my car as I moved from apartment to apartment. Such a free feeling that you can just get and go at any time.

I lived in my vehicle for one year, from October 16th 2019 until October 16th 2020 from very harshly cold winters in Colorado to the start of the lockdown in February and March with the COVID-19 situation! Gyms shutdown (think no showers) glad it’s all over with, I got a place to stay now.
I live in Longmont, and was packing up to camp in my Hotel Camry too last March BUT, the shelter at home started, meaning no gym showers, so I stayed another year. I'm leaving early May. I am SICK of spending $1700 a month for rent, utilities, wifi. I'm giving my money away every month!

I work full time and live in my car. It was a financial choice to save money because price is so high where i live. Ive rented out rooms and had people steal from me. Im very positive despite the fact of this choice. Its better to stay in more busy areas where more cars are around than be the only car. I do occassionally stay at hotels to shower and clean my clothes. Stay strong my friend, life is a journey. You are one of the good ones. One love
same here, work fulltime, and OT, and am also in school (online). I use the free wifi at the library, and use truck stop showers or friend's showers. I made the decision a few months ago and am sleeping in a mini van with no significant modifications, after being shuffled around from room to room in the town I live in- one 30 day notice (with no cause) and one insane situation in which my landlord lied to get a restraining order against me to get me out, while also taking my rent/deposit unjustly. I am a single female and have been in online classes since spring to get into healthcare. Despite all the drama, still have all A's and one B! I am able to cook and eat at my job, which is helpful. Some days are a struggle, but overall, I have more time to do fun things, even with my relatively crazy schedule. I do feel more free, and have gained perspective that has helped me find more happiness. One of my goals is to disengage from materialism. I hope you stay well and stay safe and have fun.
Sometimes I think there is more freedom in living a nomadic life. Living simply and enjoying experiences is so much more valuable than having a bunch of material things. God bless you and keep you safe during your journeys.
From 1972 to 1975 I slept in a pup tent at beaches and vacant lots, wintering in South Florida working at Skylake McDonald's for $1.25 per hour and every Summer I would travel the highways 52mph on a 125cc Honda till low on money then stay at a Kokomo Indiana YMCA getting an odd job. Retired now thank God. Stay safe guys.
Please be careful. You seem open a d trusting. Just be able to say no with no explanations. If someone gets too friendly.. " no" is a complete sentence.
I quit college, waited tables, began living in my car, then truck with a camper. Had a great dog. Lever action 30/30. Lots of police problems but i made it, married a babe, had kids, developed and bought a farm built my house. This in the late 80's, early 90's. OH, live is always a struggle. Right now, my bathroom floor is torn out, waiting for repairs , so bathing with cold water from the hose but since i have been tough, no big deal. Grateful for the cold water.
we are working to preserve the " friendliness"of wal mart to nomads, a valued element already in danger and gone in many places due to overuse and mis-use, so, even though there is a perception of a welcome mat, its STILL very important to be discreet, and to always be developing a broader network so walmart becomes a " last resort".....there are over a dozen apps that will help with this, and many of us working to get nomad-friendly camps, art camps, alt living camps, etc , up and running....that one cow pic demonstrates a potent window on the pricelessness many of us have discovered in a closer connection to nature....you 've embarked on an experience everyone should have, no matter age, status, etc....the very best to you....
Believe it or not, that is actually may be a "thing" in Nevada. You are not homeless they have a special category for people with mobile housing, per robert witham.
Me and my family did the same thing for almost 3 months we was living in hotels but that was so expensive so we decided to take that route to save our money to pay down on a apartment we're doing good now hopefully everything will work out for you
With rents and mortgages going expensively insane in america I bet is cheaper to live in a car without the stressful monthly payments of a mortgage. Sad but true

I'm making plans to convert a van and live this way permanently. I remember my first night. I used my station wagon. It was the BEST night ever!
Walmarts all over the world have the same 24 hr parking policy; it's really quite brilliant when you think about it. Allowing ppl to stay overnight in their parking lots obviously gets them more business. I wish more big stores would adopt this

Get a gym membership so you can workout and shower or some days pretend to workout and shower. I do LA fitness cause they are everywhere across the nation
While you're at Walmart look in the camping section for a Coleman Camping Cot. Then you can put a lot of your bins etc. under the cot freeing up some floor space.
I have one, it rips too easily at the seams. If you can get a better version, do so. My son was on it, 180 lbs. It is still "usable." But I was dismayed by the lackluster "quality."
I live in Arizona. The Walmart super center where I shop has signs everywhere in their parking lot that you cannot park overnight. If they did allow it the parking lot would be full of “ winter visitors “ who live in their rv’s for the winter, then go back home for the summer.
The big problem with getting kicked out of an apartment or home because of no job and no way to pay the rent or mortgage, and then moving into a vehicle with no job, is when the vehicle breaks down and there's no money to get it fixed. Then you're screwed.
Take the savings from no rent and do proactive maintenance on the vehicle. Keep a maintenance account like owner operator truck drivers do.. Best to get a fuel efficient reliable vehicle too..
@@2242bzo What are you talking about? $20 a month and probally a couple $100 + expenses per year is all it costs to maintain a decent car.. This is nothing compared to over $1000 a month for rent.
If you’re in that situation, you’ve got bigger problems than a broken down vehicle. The guy in the video looks like he has it together and is choosing to be “homeless”
Matter of fact it’s how I live. In August 2020 I started living in my 2014 Toyota RAV4 making my income with Rideshare and doing deliveries. Big thumbs up ... until I remembered, self-driving trucks are coming faster than we realize. Someone else said it: we live in a failed society where rich politicians sit in their crusty incumbent seats and debate whether lazy Americans deserve benefits, meanwhile last I checked I pay 30% of my income in taxes.
Living in one of the most outrageous and sickening expensive areas in the country myself, I would love to have opportunity to free myself from homeownership and the concrete jungle I am currently a slave to
california is expensive
I'm fucking done with rent $500 is like my max for rent. I'll do a room

Good thinking ! Stealth camping with a valid reason for being there, too. The rent-trap just keeps you struggling.
This. We used to ask the Walmart managers to sleep in the parking lots and could get our food inside and use the restroom but would shower at either truck stops or gyms. I wonder if COVID has affected the showering at truck stops/hours at most gyms as it has affected most Walmarts (most close now).

This. Space and storage are a big thing, when living in a vehicle.
Also, how you arrange things too.
Hospital parking lots are extra safe... You have 24 hours of security patrol..
all the homeless are parking at the hospital so where do you suggest the friends and family park to visit their loved ones that are hospitalized? Maybe not a good choice sounds selfish
Is that legal? To car camp
@@ashlynadventures912 yeah Walmart, no problem. I've done that but a hospital I'd be way more skeptical

I do occassionally stay at hotels to shower and clean my clothes. Stay strong my friend, life is a journey. You are one of the good ones. One love
If you get a gym membership you can shower there
u r so inspiring
same here, work fulltime, and OT, and am also in school (online).

@@williamnale7835 Dude, if a person can't pay rent, common sense suggests they can't pay for proactive maintenance on their vehicle either. Duh.
That’s why he got a Toyota!
The difference is I work to build my own Ride Local platform and take new riders or deliveries with a QR code. Since I have done this I travel back and forth twice a year from Yuma,AZ to Grand Rapids, MI. I use DoorDash when I travel across states. Great video and keep it up. Thanks for sharing.
Don’t no what ur plans r but being a truck driver u can get paid to travel and live n ur truck with a bed refrigerator and tv can’t beat that
@Charlie Bee There’s MANY MANY female truck drivers hun, I’m one myself! It’s definitely worth it and you don’t need to be super strong. You don’t load/unload your truck. All you need to be able to do is drive, open the trailer doors and curl, for the most part. Don’t sell yourself short luv!
Yeah being a travel nurse similar as I’m going to another state and I’m not paying rent or hotels for only 2 nights as im staying down there for 3 days for work they give me housing sipends and meals but i rather bank that and sleep in my car for 2 nights and go back home to my house. We get paid to travel and work
Yea I’m an Owner Operator cross country truck driver. I enjoy it, it’s peaceful sleeping in my truck at random places across the country. Make sure to have some kind of weapon with you. I carry a handgun just in case. Stay safe
Those are not "social welfare benefits" I am a shareholder in this country and I want my dividends. #UBI NOW
HI I live in a van! Welcome to your new world! You’ll love the lifestyle just hang in there and throw away any old beliefs ❤️🙌🏽
I’m like you brother, I am moving from Denver to Orlando and I don’t have a place to stay so I will be sleeping in my SUV … it’s nice to know I’m not the only person that is going to do this … you videos are very helpful
Be very careful dude, In the state of California, it is illegal to drive with any open container of alcohol in the vehicle.
You can have it in your trunk or what is called "inaccessible to the driver". I guess for him, it'd be by the plastic containers way in back.
Same in Florida. I have a feeling that is one of the few laws that exists many places/states
container closed. nowhere near driver. you're paranoid.
One of my friends just recently became homeless and lives in his car. He parks at rest areas off the interstate at night because it is legal and safe because of other vehicles and truckers there sleeping.
There's some safe rest areas, and there's some that are really dangerous. I was brushing my teeth and freshening up at one and this guy walked in, and I didn't stay long enough to find out what was going to happen next!
Absolute freedom from worldly possessions
I’ve been sleeping 😴 in my car 🚘 for 2 weeks and I’ve been homeless but made me realize even though i still got a better job making $13.50 an hour but I don’t want a apartment
Hey! Zoey how you doing mama? Hang in there.
@@livybaptiste I’m doing better I choose to get a place that was $550 all bills 💵 in one but if I had to go back I know what to do in that situation and thank you 🙏for checking up on me
@@Its_zoey25 ok I’m glad you doing okay sis n have a place to stay now. But 550 is actually really cheap comparing to Miami , what state you’re in if you don’t mind me asking?
@@DestinysDynasty yeah I had moved out cause they had bad service but yeah it’s really cheap and Houston tx
Get a tiny house and live less!
Going homeless is honestly one of the greatest things one could go through. Really shows you what you value in life.
Have you actually been homeless?
@@emmacat3202 yes. After covid hit I lost my job and couldn't pay the rent. Took me 6 months to get another job.
@@emmacat3202 note this was before landlords couldn't evict residents.
or we should have a social welfare system that makes sure people don't become homeless
@@emmacat3202yes I was unhoused for 10 years
Take care Jonathan. May God watch over you. I recently uploaded a video of a mom and her 3 kids living in their car. Tough times. Stay strong.
Once upon a time in American people would rent a room to live in to regain their footing and in today’s times people live in their vans or other vehicles. You’re not alone and I wish you well, just remember you’re not homeless.
landlords getting so greedy. bad karma for society
This is true. Many young men and women lived in boarding houses. Where I’m from, they were either all men or all women.
Good luck! I may be facing a similar situation, so I did a "shake down cruise" two weeks ago. I found out that in my 10 year old neutral colored minivan I am invisible. I parked on side streets in my own community. I don't use any window covers except for the windshield. I want to look "stock". Now I know I can do this when the time comes. Keep your windows down a bit for air. Be safe!
Best times of my life was without 4 walls, teaches us to survive .. something most have just forgotten, its not as bad as people think happens everyday in Kentucky lol normal life backwoods is to survive , people today are powderpuff lol , we take showers in the creek and live off coal if you need heat.. pretty simple stuff lol
Been homeless sleeping in my car for two months now almost three.. I really can’t wait til it’s over
Been living in my car for a week now. Getting use to it. No more mortgage.
All the best to you, dude! You are joining an ever-expanding club. Check Cheap RV Living if you haven't seen them.
Walmart. No parking allowed there.
How’s the last 2 weeks been?
What are you doing with the saved mortgage $?
How do you make money
Hi I often sleep in my car, it is really comfortable, but I also find it easier then driving home from work and back again. I am going to upgrade and a buy a car with a large back to it, so I lie fully out. I do also like having my apartment too. I think cars are fantastic to live in full time or part time as I do. I work 12 hours/day I love my job, I literally fall asleep in my car before I can drive home. So I just sleep in my car, change at work and I bring enough food for two days. I do this twice a week. I also do lots of work on my computer in my car, I think lots of people do that. Wising everyone much happiness, abundance, good health and joy. Take good care.
Wow
house-free and home-less are different things.

Who Thru Poo Ilive in a binbag so I am car free. You are a loser.
Who Thru Poo says who?
When you have no running water and electric, it feels like homeless to me too. Those things are taken for granted. 😢
Sugar coating is sugar coating it's homelessness.
Having shelter is a basic human need. All the best for the future:)
It might be a need but most people wouldn't think it's a right.
Loved those "happy cows" she was checking you out and decided you're A-OK!
Since today is April 16, you probably know about this channel called "cheap RV living" by Bob Wells.
Super good tips!
Take care friend!!
If your ever in Charlotte NC, I have an extra room in my townhouse. I love what your doing, your so brave.

@@desiortega9878 not you 🥲💀
THAT so nice 🙂 thanks 😊 for just caring 👍
It's cool that you have such a positive attitude about this situation, but I do feel bad that this lifestyle has been forced on you by necessity rather than just for fun. Car camping because you want to is one thing. Being pushed into homelessness due to the crazy cost of living and lack of work is unfortunate. Wishing you better times ahead. Keep up the PMA.
One thing I’ve really learned this year is that you don’t know if a situation is gonna end up being a positive or a negative in the long run. It really helps me to stay optimistic when faced with tribulation :-)
Thanks a lot for the support!!
Im in this same situation due to losing my job from COVID 19. I am being forced out into being homeless and living in my car pretty soon. His positive attitude is giving me hope that living in your car temporarily is not too bad.

I love your idea of chaos. Your setup looks very neat and I was impressed with how spotless you left your apartment. Im retired live full-time offgrid in my airstream by choice and I love it, but I'm living on a friend's property rent free while taking care of his place and dogs while he's out trucking. I know how nice and necessary it is to keep a small space neat, especially with four dogs,a cat and a rescue guinea pig. I just found your channel and am looking forward to your other video's. I don't consider you homeless either. I find it very freeing
Lord bless you , keep you & protect you ! I've been living in my suburb. for almost a year now , God provides ( always ) funny watchin you pack & load up . It's exactly my set up . Just lately . . . little by little doin things for more comfort . Go where you sense & feel safe . Areas where there is light .

I travelled alone in my car from California to Toronto Canada in 1994, camping the entire way! It was an awesome time...have fun!!!
When I was homeless, I spent my nights at the park in my tent. After a while, I noticed a lot of tents around me. I thought the circus had come to town. Very weird!
Uhh yeah very weird dude 😬😬🤣
