On the Jack Leach issue, I have a suggestion.
I am Indian, I watched Leach bowl in the test series back in Feb 2021, and he impressed me. He caused discomfort to every Indian batsman, took many wickets and even set off a conversation in India on how Indian batsmen aren't the best players on spin anymore. Watching him struggle so bad isn't a good sight. He is a talented spinner but, judging from what I've been hearing, circumstances aren't favourable for him in England, which is hampering his development. Playing Ranji a season, for eg, will give Leach skill and confidence.
My suggestion is: why not have board to board negotiation and make way for some of these players to play overseas domestic conditions where they can develop? Talking about Leach, he seriously impressed many Indians and there are several domestic teams which will be happy to have an internationally tested cricketer on their team. Growing up, I always heard Indian cricketers go to play county in England to hone their skills. Why can't the few remaining test teams negotiate a mutual overseas domestic framework to develop talent? Already happens in T20 league cricket. Would do a world of good for test cricket. All that is needed is will and cooperative spirit from those who run cricket. Free market in T20 and protectionism in test cricket is a bad policy going forward IMO. What we need is a roadmap to give greatest exposure to players. It will benefit not just the players, but test cricket as a whole.
    Looking forward to conversations. Cheers!

I feel for Scotty Boland coz it will be hard to maintain a place in this side for him when Hazelwood is back. He is a similar type of bowler to him and Cummins both - hit the deck/heavy ball with seam movement than swing. Starc usually holds his place being left arm who's more skiddy and swings it at higher pace.... adds variety to the attack. Alot of headaches for Aussie selectors with the likes of Jhye Richardson and Neser knocking on the doors as well!

After watching cricket in Australia, since 1983 (the Pakistan tour of Australia), I feel the one of the most under valued player to tour Australia in those years was Larry Gomes (more a worker of the ball) of the West Indies, whenever the West Indies were in trouble Gomes and someone like Dujon, would invariable get them out of trouble. In short, I think that Hameed could be more useful in the middle order for England. I thought when Atherton was having trouble with McGrath, Atherton could have dropped to the middle order (and played the Larry Gomes role) faced less of McGrath with the new ball.

Averages 118 balls faced. That's significantly better than averaging 32 and averaging 50 balls faced or 30. While the problems do remain, there are positives to take from this match and England should focus on them heading into Hobart. I'd personally leave out Hameed, Anderson (for combination reasons) and play Burns and Robinson in their place, while Billings comes in for Buttler. If injured, Woakes and Lawrence to replace stokes and Jonny respectively.

    I’m an Aussie, here’s my take :
    - We were slightly better overall, but I felt England deserved a draw as they fought hard throughout the match. That was a great hundred from Bairstow and impressive knock by Crawley. Yes, the rain helped England on the final day, but you play with the cards you are dealt and England fought hard and did what they had to do to get the draw.
    - The deciding factor in the match was the 2 hundreds from Khawajah. Australia’s top order has played and missed a lot in the earlier Tests, we finally got some edges in this Test, we were fortunate that Khawajah stepped up.
    - England finally picked their best team, it is baffling to me that they didn’t pick Broad in Brisbane (especially with his record against Warner) and Melbourne.
    - I rate Wood, Bairstow and Crawley highly, they are competitive cricketers who show some fight.
    - I agree with Rob Key and Ponting, putting pressure on the bowlers is important, that’s why I rate Crawley and Bairstow.
    - We have good bowlers but I feel they are overrated. They have struggled to bowl out teams on the final day, they couldn’t do it against India last year and were fortunate that Buttler stepped on his stumps in Adelaide, they had no answers to his resistance before that, England could have drawn in Adelaide.

Why not open with Lawrence and Crawley in the next test. Two very watchable players. Followed by Root, Pope, Bairstow, Billings(wk), Woakes, Wood, Broad, Anderson/Robinson, Leach. No left hander in top 8. But this team will play an attractive brand of cricket.

  • @samqr9184

Vodcast is better then what England cricket team has dished out to spectators in name of Ashes. Root is an ultra defensive captain and there needs to be a change in leadership for England, sooner then better. Middle order is fine but if openers are like this then no middle order can succeed against quality bowling attacks.

Of all the things that have been disappointing with England, the player rotation has been the most frustrating.
