Looks like a couple minutes backwash fixed ours, the simplest things that you can forget! Just replaced the pump, got air in the system without a doubt, so far so good now! Thanks!
Vacuum head wasn’t clogged but a little stick had got stuck in the mechanism that makes it pulsate. Just ran a piece of pvc through that was just narrower than the opening and was able to dislodge it. All good, thanks for the vid, the first two minutes was all I needed.
Thank you for the video! I noticed that you attached the hose to the skimmer basket with with the collection basket still in the skimmer basket; that was the trick! I have never done that before. Thank you for taking the time to post this video! :)
I'm havign the same problem, losing suction when I'm sweeping the pool. I (hand to Gawd) didn't know about checking for air leaking out of the system along the hoses. Thank you for this, tackling this as I type lol! Thanks from Virginia Beach!
Thanks! I have checked all my connections but I put the vacumm hose on I immediately pull air and lose my suction at the pump. I have tried two different hoses with the same results. I flushed both hoses with a water sock to ensure they were not blocked. I have a tiny micro crack in my pump which does not seem to be leaking. Do you think I need to replace the pump housing?
Try putting your pool vacuum hose in front of the return water Outlet while the pump is running and let it fill the holes until you see water come out they vacuum head and and all the air will be removed quickly
Pressure at gauge is 25psi. The filter is not dirty for a clean up yet. No air leaks. No clogs. Very low vacuum pressure still, nevertheless, vac picks up tiny particles but no dirt at bottom of an in-ground pool. Next am back washing. If that doesn't work, clean filter entirely. Will keep you posted. Thanks and happy holidays.
Hello… your video was very helpful but however I would like to know… if those are issues are not the problem, could I possibly have a busted main drain pipe?
Thanks! Your comment about the basket led me to find that this was the source of the air leak. It was fine under normal filtering but when I connected the vacuum hose, the added pressure caused air to be sucked in, creating the air lock. Tightening the lid worked and now I can vacuum to my heart's content. Tip: When you're sealed the (usually) plastic basket cap, mark the cap and the basket holder with a permanent marker. That way you'll know when it's tight enough and not too tight.
Your pool is not level unless it is a huge optical illusion. Some good tips. Also...make sure skimmer basket screws are tight where the skimmer goes thru the wall...if they are not tight the vacuum can pull air from between the liner and the wall of the pool.
@@HomeOwnerRepair Just giving you grief. Great video. Don't replace it for some youtube idiot. STILL a great place to cool off in the summer. Have a good one.
My above ground pool has almost no suction on the "waste" setting. Suction is fine on backwash, filter, and rinse but not on waste. I always make sure to backwash first, then burp the air out of the vacuum hose before I start to vacuum. The whole system was recently hard plumbed, a new skimmer and fresh sand put in the filter. My pool repair guy is stumped. Can you help?
Great videos, After 20 minutes I lose pressure in my return I checked everything filters clean hoses a clean no debris anywhere starts off good 20 minutes later return is hardly coming out I’m at a loss I don’t know what to do?
So buying a cheat vacuum from Walmart doesn’t get the job done huh because sediment shooting right through the net making the water foggy without picking up a inch of dirt did they play me 😂

Thanks for watching our video that shows you how to troubleshoot the loss of suction on a swimming pool filter. Have a great day!

It is possible

In the year since my post, I forgot about the basket leak. Found your video again and AGAIN it helped. Thanks.

Yes, I know this it drives me insane. I'll probably replace it soon, it wicked old.

That's a weird thing to have happen...is it possible the valve is maybe starting to wear out possibly causing this issue to happen.

Sorry just noticed this
How long do you backwash and then after how long rinse? And if a lot of yuck at bottom from rain how long waste eggout?
Backwash until all of the green is gone in the sight glass, and then rinse until the sight glass is clean.
What if you don’t have a cap on the skimmer basket. Hose goes in the hole
It may fit into the skimmer basket hose.
Is there any other way to get large debris off the bottom of a pool? It just keeps clogging the entry point and the same thing over and over again
You may try a leaf bag net that goes on the end of your skimmer pole. Here is a link to them. amzn.to/3QSjmrW
My reg pool boy vac isn’t starting the suction…. All is tight idk what to do
Does everything seem to be filtering okay with the pool vacuum not hooked up?
@@HomeOwnerRepair yes very strong. I think the head of the pool boy vacuum is busted it’s been about 6 years so it’s an older one
Tried all your tips. Still no suction
You may have a loss in suction if there is a crack in the hose or the hose end.
What happened to the dog?
Shannon is still with us and crazier than every..lol Smart as a whip that dog.

Those are good for sucking up big leaves from the bottom of the pool.
