This is the best car review channel on you tube,I have learned more buy watching this channel than I ever had talking to people about cars, keep up the great work matt and your team 👍
It’s so awful with these fake exhausts they’re putting on cars. They make the premium cars look like a Proton from the early 90’s!! Come on Benz you’re meant to be “the best or nothing” sort your styling out
Alex Gunner yeah I’ve owned 2 Audi’s and they were great with permanent Quattro. But now it’s fake exhaust, Quattro when needed and a car costing £40k with no navigation or sliding rear seats? Hmmmmm those Germans are tight as ducks backside. Plus the styling is rather dull
I'm with you guys, too. If I had a choice of digital cluster...I'd prefer one that looks like this rather than the new digital cluster that looks like it the came from the 1980s. If you weren't around back then...just google "1980's digital instrument clusters". I guess I'm just an analog cluster type of guy. It'd be nice if they gave you a choice between an all digital vs analog/digital cluster...or at least designed a screen selection that imitated an analog set-up if the only option is all digital.
As a BMW Plant Spartanburg employee, it's cool to see you review a car I helped build 😁 If there's one thing we take VERY seriously, it's the quality of the cars we produce 👍 Love the video ✌️😁
sentinel I can only speak in regards to the building of them. As far as initial build quality goes, it’s our absolute top priority. I’ve seen entire cars get dissembled just to test every nut, bolt, weld, screw, fastener, connection, and everything that goes into the build. If a single weld is not up to standard, we stop the entire process to get it corrected before paint ever touches the car. We are encouraged and recognized for finding processes that need improving or optimizing. By far the most quality-focused company I’ve ever worked for ✌️😁
@@TechfulThinking I bought an X3 in 2009. Everything in the car was bad quality, although I bought the luxury edition. Sorry mate, everything BMW put in this car was cheap and bad. Worst gear box ever, the valvetronic was a joke, leather seat quality fit for a yugo car. The L sensor most of the times wasn't working, giving a false alarm, the paint on cup holders, window buttonsand stirring wheel was chipping off almost a year after. I hope you were not working there at that time.
alavisie I’m sorry that you went through that. I wasn’t with the company in 2009, so I can’t speak for the quality then. I can say that after the market crash of 2008, a great many manufacturers, automotive and otherwise, had to make some pretty significant sacrifices. At that time, I was in the repair industry, so I can say with confidence that a lot of late 00’s/early 10’s vehicles had some gnarly quality issues. I would challenge you to go test drive one of the new X models and tell me what you think. I’d love to hear your feedback on how far we’ve come ✌️😁
I LOVE MY 2017 X3. It is the X line version with the upgraded Saddle Orange Nevada Leather. When I decide to trade, I will probably get the X4 or maybe even the X6. The Harmon/Kardon sound system is amazing and the ride is super comfy on long trips but sporty enough to still be fun and responsive. You still feel connected to the car and to the ground but that luxury ride quality is still present as well. Great way of meshing the two together.
One thing i think you missed is the eco mode of this car thats brilliant. The eco mode just limit the revs a small bit giving it a softer pull away and allround relaxing driving experience of you are just cruising.
Great review Mat! Having shopped around I bought this edition in November, and upgraded to the M-Sport version with the bigger display. Absolutely brilliant car- the infotainment is second to none and the automatic parking is superb. Only issue I’ve had is that the suspension is a bit on the keen side, even in comfort mode- you feel it quite a bit with city driving. Cruises like a beauty on the motorway though. Averaging about 40mpg with mixed driving conditions- not bad for such a large car.
Here are 5 cool quirks about the X3 Look I've never seen a fuel cap before in this shape it's stupid let's open and close it for 10 mins WOW THERES AN X ON THE DOOR WOOW OMG OMG OMG
Matt, this is the third generation, not the second, check description please. Also, it has an optional 12.3” full LED digital instrument cluster which is a lot better than the standard one. It’s not as good as the Audi Virtual Cockpit in terms of functionality, but definitely has great graphics and usefulness.
The reason why they have that plastic thing around the dials is because for years now nearly all BMW have the same looking dials with tiny differences in each model. They don’t want to lose the traditionan of the dials. I personally love the looks of it
Matt- we love your car reviews, and you are a filmmaker in the making too. We’re in our BMW X3 , I’m the passenger, and I want to thank you for your brilliant review- it helped us finalize our car choice. LOVING THIS CAR (we are in NY so we couldn’t buy through your site) but TELL BMW- - you’re the reason we are now driving this stunning car! 🙋🏻♀️👍🙏⭐️⭐️⭐️
The steering is pretty weird. Zero feedback and braking the inner wheel is disturbing. The good weight distribution saves it a bit as it makes the car feel lighter. Before I had the x1 e84 and the hydraulic steering was good, it had some feedback and it felt very precise and natural.
Mark Bennett BMW press release: “Today is a day of celebration. Our dark age is over. Our company and it’s people shall rise again. We will once again smile out at the world. He will once again feed and be fed. And all because the great Mark Bennett is FINALLY considering our brand once again. Oh Hallelujah!”
Mat...i have watched all your car reviews and of course became a fan of your reviews...could you please do a review to list top 10 SUVs in UK. SUV market in UK at present is very crowded and if cabin comfort & quiteness(less or no noise) are the top 2 priorities...then why we dont see much lexus on the road?. Also..volvo XC60 and XC90 are not in the premium sector along with BMW, Merc & Audi....why???
Matt, when you are testing how well a car is built (e.g shaking the center console), you could also add another tests. Pulling hard on the doors while they are closed to check if it deforms or squeaks, pressing on some others elements in the dash like air vents (which were squeaky in some premium models), pulling on tablet screens to check it's sturdiness. Those are quick tests that can tell if the car is well put together.
My experience: Bought a 2007 X3 2.0d (M47 150 ps) at 50.000 km at the BMW Dealer, at german market prices (not a discounted trashcan). 70.000 km - clutch plate was gone - entire clutch kit replaced 80.000 km - turbo failure - replaced turbo 100.000 km - transfer case failure - replaced transfer case 120.000 km - guess what - timing chain failure will never touch bmw again.
Wonder if Samsung made these screens for BMW, I really hope so, the new X3 looks good comparing to previous models, but still there is a lack of a claw, maybe it feels like it's sporty, but doesn't look like. And I really hope there will be X3M with inline-six cylinder engine. 3:19 and I thought someone is recording you using a phone :D 6:27 and that's exactly why I am not interested in buying this car, I prefer Android over ios and this is a huge step back for BMW.
That surround view camera has to be the coolest thing of this car and other BMW's You could connect a controller to the car and drive it as if it's a videogame !
Seems like reasonable MPG. On a 4000-mile roadtrip in the US I couldn't get more than 35-36 out of the BMW X1 (2017) on highway routes when averaging about 60-65mph. Petrol engine though, can't remember which one it is specifically. About 0-60 in 8.0s or faster as well. I really think the new X3 model looks quite nice.
Must be US gallons as the car was sold in the US. So 35MPG would be 42 MPG with imperial gallons. I never use gallons as I'm from the Netherlands haha, trying to fit in here. Combination of highway and city resulted in 30MPG (US), that's 36 imperial. Have to admit that i switched to eco mode quite a few times.
Tuomas K thats right! It is not my car though, but it seems to perform reasonably well during the winter in NYC. With gas prices so low in the US, MPG doesnt always matter as much. Repair cost is quite expensive I have to admit, we got rear-ended quite badly.
Mat, you sold me the 2018 X3 in the year 2020! I bought a 2019 X3 XDrive Petrol. Thanks for your quick and lively reviews, do not attempt to review Porsche Macan, I don't have that kind of money..... love your reviews.
Hi Mat. I enjoy your videos so much. They are so entertaining and you're so funny. Now, I'm off to some serious channel for a professional review of this car. Keep up the funny work mate.
my friend picked up a 2019 X3 30d M Sport plus. The sheer amount of vibrations filtering through the floor, seats and door handles was straggering. Its quite an uncomfortable car. I'm not sure if others have experienced this and if the ride is better on smaller tyres. But not one journalist has pointed out the ride issue on proper non 'M' cars.
hi, which car is family-friendly but also fun to drive? e.g. bmw x3, alfa stelvio, or other competitors.. I would like a used one from about 2017.. The diesel version is very powerful, isn't it, the petrol is quieter, but you have to rotate it.. which is the secret tip? which variation is more reliable to spend the family's saved money on? Thanks
Pity you didn’t include in the dislikes the fact the excessively sensitive ambient light sensor (just above the petrol gauge) auto brightens and dims the instrument panel and idrive screen (there is no manual override during daylight). If it’s cloudy and dull outside the map on the idrive screen dims to the point the screen is unreadable. It also impacts the display produced by the surround cameras making it unusable on dull days or manoeuvring from sunshine into shade. I know from my dealer that lots of owners have complained about this and that BMW might release some software in the future to fix. If you plan to test drive the car test this out. Spoils an otherwise great driving suv.
matthew walker I would agree. But I live in Canada so up until this year, most models of Mercedes had these gawdy bits of plastic bits stuck everywhere which made (and some cases still does) them look way overstyled and ugly
I agree that the looks of this car are not the best (F-Pace does it for me), but I drove the XC60 and the GLC (and the Q5 and the Lexus and the Land Rover) but I bought the BMW. I found the Volvo uncomfortable, the Mercedes old-fashioned and the Audi was too generic (frankly, I think the sales person was the one who ruined that sale). Both my wife and I really liked the BMW. It feels amazing to sit in and even better to drive.
Ben Mayall. Whilst I find the three clowns who present The Grand Tour amusing, I could not give a rat's todger what they, or others, think they proved. Like so many who are educated beyond their intelligence, they believe it is a category of car which should not exist.
Dave Gould... To be cool, a car has to be uncommon, desirable, and probably the only one in your street, none of the above relate to any BMW, let alone an SUV.
I do really enjoy your reviews. The stick of truth is cool :) When you talk at the very end it sounds abit weird! the voice over bit. good video when is the Bmw 8 Series review coming?
Them new LED lights look so silly to me. Half a circle? Looks like they needed an update but had no ideas. Think I like the old ones they make more sense...
Sugar it does not. That’s what people said about the new x4 and the mercades. They don’t look the same. People. More than half of you can’t afford it so just stfu.
Mat , taking into account only 2.0 petrol engines what would you choose : X3 xDrive 30i or Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI quattro S tronic ? Which is slightly better overall in your opinion ?
There is something of the 1968-69 Buick Riviera/Oldsmobile Toronado about this iteration of the A7 - and they of course were actual coupes, road yachts with long hoods and dramatically sculpted wheel openings. Big V-8s with abysmal mileage, they had, for their day, flashy interiors to go with the show-off bodies. With the likes of the A7 and 6 series Grand Coupe, not to mention the uber coupe Bentley Continental GT, it's no wonder Buick showed a new Riviera concept a couple of years ago. "Sports car" looks in the XXL scale.
I have to be serious and say the reason i will take the bmw instead of the merc is the gear lever instead of the flickerlight gear lever. I hate those flicker tipe gear lever.
Not too bad if you're in sitting in the front seats, but try riding around in the back of one of these things, its like sitting on the back of a wooden cart with solid wheels.
Just got a new 2021 X3. It has a fully digital cockpit, instrument cluster. Amazing car.

that's good because i'm often shaking the center console
you don't need to shake it, but it gives you a good feeling when everything is build solid and it doesn't move.
Yeah and if you spend twice the money of a normal car on a premium one, you sure want the interior to rattle over speed bumps.
the Stinger is not exactly cheap.
Splendid Cookie true but I’ve never known a car that’s entire centre console moves around on bumps. I would only expect it to be strurdy
I actually like this car a lot. One of the first BMWs that I've liked this much. Mainly because of the combination of practicality and sporty styling.

We need that Stick of truth for Mercedes cars exhaust tips!

Your complaining about the part digital dials but there is an option to get full LCD display like the Audi.

Joey Hoogendoorn US gallons or imperial?

Who would take a Volvo XC60 over this new bmw x3? The new X3 has an outraged interior! ._.
I wouldn't and if someone takes that over the up coming X3M they are mental
Well v60 its an estate and this is a suv so better say an xc60 that i will definetely take over this x3
i would. i would take a 5-series wagon over it as well

My 2020 BMW X3 has engine mounts that went bad after just after the 50k warranty went out. It also has an oil leak. Lemon?

The diesel version is very powerful, isn't it, the petrol is quieter, but you have to rotate it.. which is the secret tip? which variation is more reliable to spend the family's saved money on? Thanks
Im buying bmw on december.2019
@Muhammed Butt How is it ? Did it suit your expectations ?
I just can't warm to the current BMW design language. Why any one would pick this over the XC60 or the Mercedes is beyond me.
Because it drives better then the rest! but true design wise BMW's have never been pretty, well mostly anyway.
matthew walker I would agree. But I live in Canada so up until this year, most models of Mercedes had these gawdy bits of plastic bits stuck everywhere which made (and some cases still does) them look way overstyled and ugly
joe bloggs except we spend most of our time in heavy traffic and going over speed bumps.
Philip MacGovern The ultimate driving machine!
Finally! Have been waiting for ages for this review...
Why does Mat have this fixation with shaking the center console? No one has ever cared about that.
Daniel About Tech I watched a carbuyer review and they did it. It just shows you how well put together the car is
Unless you have a car with a flimsy one.
A lot of people care about it. Shaking the center console proves if the car is well built.
Nobody cares specifically about the center console, he's just making a point that the car feels well built in general.
Daniel About Tech the guy is an idiot
Love x3's simple design
The Grand Tour proved that the vehicles like the X3 are NOT SUVs
what exactly did they prove? Pretty sure the X3 is quite sporty.
Ben Mayall. Whilst I find the three clowns who present The Grand Tour amusing, I could not give a rat's todger what they, or others, think they proved. Like so many who are educated beyond their intelligence, they believe it is a category of car which should not exist.
It’s a joke! It’s obviously fake! I can see the point in what they say but yes the majority is fake.
BMW doesn't call it an SUV either, it's an SAV
They are not they are SAVs :)
Loved this review and its probably the best one i'we seen on your channel. Keep it up chaps :)
BMW is cool🇸🇪
Dave Gould... To be cool, a car has to be uncommon, desirable, and probably the only one in your street, none of the above relate to any BMW, let alone an SUV.
Love em
I like the fact that you are on OnePlus phones!
pause it at 3:19
gotcha
It was the cameraman
I do really enjoy your reviews. The stick of truth is cool :) When you talk at the very end it sounds abit weird! the voice over bit. good video when is the Bmw 8 Series review coming?
What's its dough score?
On a scale of bap to baguette, it's a ciabatta.
carwow Omg senpai noticed me!
Who cares??
You mean Doug score... N you on wrong channel.. *joke mate, don't be mad
Fabius Irvan Fabian Abron I'm glad I made that typo otherwise I wouldn't get a funny reply 😂
This reviewer is GOLD! I only watch him when I want to learn more about a car.
Them new LED lights look so silly to me. Half a circle? Looks like they needed an update but had no ideas. Think I like the old ones they make more sense...
TheLordofPotatoes it gives the car a sharper and more aggressive look
Mat, I can't find a video of the BMW X3 2020 model. There might be fewer changes, but can you please make a new video of that SUV?
The new X3 looks like the old X1
Nope
Sugar it does not. That’s what people said about the new x4 and the mercades. They don’t look the same. People. More than half of you can’t afford it so just stfu.
Noor Ghani its not even that expensive 40k? A toyota camry cost the same
M 1. It’s 40k£ : that’s 54,5k$ and 45,4k€
2. The Camry isn’t sold in Europe
Mat, you didn’t do a 0-62mph time for x3 30i... please do one... and do a drag race too with glc300 & q5!
My dream car
vasim khan My dream car is a Skoda Octavia, not a SUV
Mat , taking into account only 2.0 petrol engines what would you choose : X3 xDrive 30i or Audi Q5
2.0 TFSI quattro S tronic ? Which is slightly better overall in your opinion ?
"once again here in the rear its all very roomy" cough cough lol
C o r o n a
This is an excellent video, thank you Carwow Team !
why am I watching a review for a car that I already own ?
No one asked
krijelis I did. So edit your comment
Centre console flex test is an actual thing now.
Congrats, we did it
It's time for BMW to update their cockpit completely, I mean come on BMW.
The next 3,7,8,x7,i8 generations will impress you
Wait for a few months
BMW M ok calm this person is only saying the interior is dated and so do I little bmw fanboy
Why?
BMW M Do you any source ? I really want to know more. Thanks!
You said "car" 43 times in this video!
Thomas S.A why would u count lol
I have to be serious and say the reason i will take the bmw instead of the merc is the gear lever instead of the flickerlight gear lever. I hate those flicker tipe gear lever.
I pick the XC60 over this x3. Easy.
X3M though a Volvos dream
Martin E you drove both?
Me too
Yes.
Martin E Didn't the XC60 come top of the list of the most unreliable cars of the year.
Not too bad if you're in sitting in the front seats, but try riding around in the back of one of these things, its like sitting on the back of a wooden cart with solid wheels.
