England lost because despite playing in IPL, their players can't play spin or can't read the hand of spinners, as simple as that. I remember when watching the game in hindi commentary, England's spinners were getting help from the pitch & Navjot singh Sidhu said that even if India scores 140, England will lose the game because we have better spinner and their players struggle against the spinners. So that's how obvious it was.

Appreciated the comments at the end. Plus most people forget that at the ODI WC, India played their 9 games at 9 different cities/venues and that involved a lot of travel and logistics. And I suspect "battering" will not be part of Harry Brook's vocabulary for a while...

The logical thing the ECB should do is to talk to Jonathan Trout and persuade him to be the next white ball teams coach as he has done fantastic with limited resources with the Afghanistan team.

Buttler's captaincy was below average. Bowling first big mistake when pitch was expected to slow down. Not bowling Moeen Ali was baffling, surely he was not in team as specliast batsman. Giving Jordan the death overs was a bad decision. He is way too expensive to be bowling the final overs against the best team in the world.

  • @Evil_Clown-eh6jz
    @Evil_Clown-eh6jz 2 месяца назад

A captain wins the toss in a Day game, against a full-member team and decides to bowl. His team loses, badly.
He, and everyone else notices just how difficult it becomes to bat 2nd in Day games.
Another day game against a full-member side, the same captain wins the toss, and decides to....Bowl 1st. Again his team loses (albeit, not so badly). But it is BLATANTLY obvious that batting 2nd in Day games, is VERY difficult.
Another day game, against a full-member side. This one a semi-final. The opposition have exceptional bowlers who become doubly lethal when bowling 2nd. This captain, wins the toss AGAIN (lucky tosser!), and what does he decide to do this time? Bowl 1st again!!! Result: His team gets annihilated!
Had this captain been a Pakistani, he would have been under investigation for match-fixing. But because the captain is English everyone just shrugs their shoulders, giggles and moves on.

I think George Dobell is secretly happy that England limped out. He doesn't like 'Bazball' (which I think is fair on him) and in hind-sight he wasn't a big fan of Morgan's marauding approach to white ball cricket either.
As a journalist, he does need to atleast pretend to question England's tactics though. Bowling 1st when they HAVE clearly failed to chase totals against any non-Associate team in Day games. On top of that bowling 2nd on a pitch that gets slower and lower makes India's bowling attack even more potent than it already is.
It is a pity that both Australia, and especially England handed the advantage to India so timidly.

Get off your first-world boomer high-horse, See the perspectives of third-worlds. IPL provides opportunities to more people than WC to make a living.

George. An interview where you keep echoing the fact that "none of this matters" isn't very interesting to listen to.
Notwithstanding the fact that it is probably correct to say - it's not what this should be about.
What would have mattered? At what point did England go wrong? What changes should they make?
We KNOW it's all speculation. That's a given. But that's the purpose of these interviews.
But this was an interview with resigned shoulder shrugs and the same "push back" answer to many of the questions.

Totally disagree...just a casual glance at Guyana day games will tell you ..that you get 150 and it's impossible to lose with a decent bowling line up...playing for rain etc is just rubbish.. Rohit clearly said it was clear and he would have batted first anyway.. Guyana is a different wicket at day and night . So the decision to chase would have been fruitful for a day and night game...England would have cantered if they chased 170 in a night game...in a day game u get 140-150 u win the game
