    I purchased a set of Cleveland Launcher HBs a few months ago, largely on Mark's recommendations. I'm a 63-year old, 12-handicap with limited flexibility from back issues. I really thought the day I'd have to give up the game might be near. The Launchers have literally been life-changing for me. Just put the club face squarely on the ball and it will fly long, high, and straight. They make golf fun again. I shot a 79 last week, and an 81 today. Just what the doctor ordered.

  • @geewilliams2178
    @geewilliams2178 4 года назад +22

    Just re watching this and the reason you discounted the Cleveland is the reason i, being a higher handycap, would actually choose it - confidence inspiring. And this whole traditional loft thing is irrelevant to higher handycapers or new golfers cause we dont look at the 7 iron and think it's a 5 we just accept it's a 7 iron. Thoughts, ideas and preconceptions are so interesting

    I tested 4 iron sets in my fitting. Ping, Taylormade, Titleist and Callaway. Varying prices but the Callaway Rogue iron just felt right for me. Well worth having a fitting as i could have just gone on looks and name, but having hit balls for an hour or so i found the right club for me.

    Well done for persuading coach to take his Callaway hat off at least temporarily 👍
    For me it’s a toss up between the ping & Titleist but the Titleist gets it.
    I think the finish on the ping would scratch too easily and it annoys me that the arccos sensor is only a 90 day trial which requires an annual subscription.

  • @marceldubois5073

  • @robertbarczykowski200
    @robertbarczykowski200 2 года назад

    I play the Cleveland Turbo Launcher and find them very easy to hit. Never really think about loft. I have come to realize how far I hit each iron and adjust accordingly. Recently purchased the Turbo driver and love it. To a high handicapper adjustability is not as important. Variance in swing patterns makes it unimportant. Getting fit with regards to loft on the driver was more critical.

  • @paulmilsom1346
    @paulmilsom1346 4 года назад +4

    I wouldn't pick the Ping, after 4 or 5 rounds they would be very scruffy with that finish, tests elsewhere shows that.
    I'd pick the Titleist, classic design easy to hit

  • @callummcallister3482

    I game the cobras when I went for my fitting I tried them against the t300 and sims and even though the cobras had the lowest lofts still found them the easiest to get in the air. Another plus for the cobras is they have arccos as standard which at £599 for 6 clubs has to go down as a bargain 👍

    Because of your review...I did purchase a full set of the Cleveland HB turbo irons. I am trying hybrids now to add to the bag (3/4 hybrid) to replace 4/5 irons. As you have stated, you must bring a certain level of skills to hit any club but HB Turbo clubs have greatly improved my game. I dont care much about looks provided I get the result I want (the result is more important than looks). I have finally broken 80- shot a 77. I tried several improvement clubs and had to choose between Ping and Cleveland HB. I chose the HB strictly because of performance eventhough the looks are not ideal. My swing is more of a sweeping motion vs a descending angle. Thanks for the review.

    As a high handicapper I recently got a new game improvement set, Benross Delta Irons 5-SW with KBS Max Stiff steel shafts for £230. I did look at different sets but based on a combination of cost, performance and quality the other set that really stood out to me were the Wilson D7 irons £389 5-PW . However the money I saved vs sets like in this video, I'm going to spend on a few lessons.

    Here I go again. I played my set of 120 dollar Cleveland HBores for about 6 years. I loved them. Then I got my Taylormade Speeeeeeeeeed Blades. Im in ancient mode, YES!!! I guess I liked my chunkies. I still switch them out and in as need would have it. One thing I did to the old HBores.... I sandblasted all of the paint off of them because they chipped the paint off each other while in the bag. I ended up clear coating them.

    With regard to the modern game improvement irons, before deciding at what point you will transition to a hybrid I suggest the golfer try the longer irons. I game a semi-aggressive iron set and found that I can hit the 3 iron lofted at 18 degrees very well. It is essentially an utility iron. Very forgiving. Prior to this set, I would not have even considered a iron lofted below 24 degrees. My only hybrid now is a 2 hybrid.

  • @coegj
    @coegj 4 года назад

    I don't like the strong lofts, in fact my last two sets of irons have all been tweaked to be 2 degrees weak, 55 degree wedge bent to 57 degrees, 50 degree wedge bent to 52 degrees and so on down to my 6 iron at 28 degrees, then two hybrids at 24 and 19.5 and fairway wood at 15.5 then driver. I know my lofts and distance and have everything I need for 200 yards on in, don't need and don't want anything else. PS I do like the more bounce it give me. Everything 4.5 to 5 degrees apart. Just what I want and what I like, just my opinion. Good video guys, thanks.

    Fantastic video! Please can you do this same video but with at the different levels of "players" irons? I'd love to see how for example, Coach's Apex stacks up against the JPX900, the T100s, the P790 (or the insanely expensive P790 Ti), the i500/210, and the Srixon 785. Would be great if they were all the same club number, so then you can compare "like for like", and see the real difference between lofts.
    I know you've done the comparison with the pure blades already, but I'd like to see that next tier down, because I'm not buying pure blades.

    I think the difference in loft manufactures are putting on their irons compared to their previous models could make a difference. I’m thinking of buying Ping 425 to replace my G irons but thinking I’ve got to get used to different yardage which could mean certainly more practise with the irons.The other thing with lofts I’m 67 and would start benefiting from rescue clubs instead of 5 & 6 irons. Mark, you mentioned how people should be looking to combo the Launcher “hirons” with their other iron sets. Cleveland was ahead of the game with their 588 lines they had. Perfect set to blend the Altitude, MT, and TT sets with more compact sets. Maybe they’ll go back to something like them since people are at least a little more open to the idea of blending.

That being said I tried the Sim's, Cobra SZ and the T 300's. Each had their strengths, but the T-300's had the most room to grow into. As somebody who has not reached his golden years yet I wanted both forgiveness but still some still some workability. T-300's checked the boxes. Good vid, thank you.

    I would pick titleist as they also blend well with the other irons from titleist

    Mark had a hard time believing the Speed Zone was every bit as strong as the Epic. Not sure why. Both 24° at the 6

    I would pick the Ping G710s because of the lofts as well. It's a bit ridiculous how these golf companies tout distance gains, but they forget to mention that they strengthened the lofts of their irons. I play Ping Eye 2's so those 6 and 7 irons are my 4 iron.

    Not a video which helps/appeals to me, but it’s another well structured video with loads of good content for people in this market.

    Would have to pick the ping as it's closest to my apex. My 7 iron is 31° so I wouldn't want to move to far away from that. I would have to learn all my carries again.

    I think the looks of a club cannot be overlooked as a prime reason for buying. If price and performance is the same of course, but the looks of the clubs are important since performances are so similar. I only like the look of the Pings here.

      The Cleveland Turbo HB irons are great clubs. They may not look flashy, but they make a big difference in scoring and that's the bottom line.

    The pings along with the greater ability of choosing the lie off the shelf that fits you makes them worth every penny.

    I think Ping and Titleist are always solid choices with irons

    Cleveland Launcher HB is the most forgiving club. PERIOD! Score and distance is more important than looks

    I still game & love my Bridgestone J38DPC (7 iron 34") ... but I'm liking those T300's a lot.

    The T300 blend better (you both said this) that puts them above the Pings for me, having said that the pings are lovely looking. Any other black finishes in the ping range!

    Excellent video, to the point and frank discussion about things that matter to higher handicappers (which are the ones shopping for these clubs). I currently use the Taylormade P790's with limited success, starting today I'm shopping for a set of Pings, looking at the G700's and the G710's. Great video gents and thanks!

    Seems like the Cleveland option for the test should have been the UHX.

    Surely the Mizuno MP20 HMB deserved a look in here? Tested recently, would definitely be the sexiest of the lot and they blend well with the blades. I went MMC, down the middle.
