I was 13 when I saw Mary Poppins and it’s been a forever favorite. Now, 57 years later, my grandchildren adore it. My favorite song is and has always been “Feed the Birds”. The entire scene is surreal.
I was six when I saw "Mary Poppins" in the movie theater. I had my parents take to me to see it 3x. When I wanted to go a 4th time to see it, they said, "No! You've seen it enough!" It has been my very favorite movie all my life. Love it, Love it, Love it! I still get emotional when I see it. I have the 40th anniversary edition on DVD. "Mary Poppins Returns" was also very good--saw that one 5x.
I used to watch Mary Poppins with my dad when I was a kid. When I was an adult it happened that the movie was shown on TV again and my excited dad called me to see it with him but at that time I resented him and I despised him. I have not finished crying for such a terrible mistake. Rest in peace, dad. I will never forget you 😢😭😭
Your post is a lesson for us all! I am so sorry, but know that you're forgiven and that you will always have this movie to remind you of those wonderful times
I'm 46 years old & this is still one of my favorite movies. Each time I watch this movie I am like a kid again watching it & sing right along, like I did as a kid.
Yes, the original book Mary Poppins was read to me by my Granny. I could have read it myself, but lying beside her on her bed with my sis on the other side as she read a chapter or 2 is a much loved memory.
Deb LaVan - In 1964, I saw "Mary Poppins" at the Torrance Drive-In when it was new, and then I had a Mary Poppins book that was thrown away long ago. I should've kept it, or at least one color photo in it; the movie at the drive-in originally showed Jane and Michael doing the "Perfect Nanny " song, in their street clothes, NOT their pajamas and robes! And my book had a photo of it to prove it! Jane was wearing a pretty red dress ...
I am 62 years old and still remember the day we went to see Mary Poppins in 1965 at a movie theater in Omaha, Nebraska. After watching the film and returning home, I drew a picture of the rooftops of London that I still have today. So my favorite song and scene is Step in Time.
I was 8 when it came out. All the songs were fantastic. As an adult I love feed the birds! As a kidlet I loved supercalifrag...well you know the rest! I was so proud of myself singing that song. Thanks for a great trip in the wayback machine 😘
To me, it has to be Feed the Birds. I always shed a tear when I hear it and see it on viewings of Mary Poppins. Marty Poppins, a true treasure in film.
I loved this movie and later on became a proper nanny (I went to school for it and no cooking and cleaning) I saw this movie as a little kid and thought it was filmed at the park near my childhood home! LOL! I am a 3rd generation American! I never lived in London!
the single most watched movie of my childhood I was born in 1993 this movie shaped me. Rest in piece my acting friends. You'll never know what you did for me
Wonderful narration! When I was a child, this movie was my favorite! There was not a song involved, but when I was a child, my favorite scene was when Uncle Albert was floating up on the ceiling laughing.
I loved this movie Marry Poppin, i remember when i was a child i couldn't forget every scene specially when marry poppin flying with her umbrella and all the music scene, i missed old time memories.
Oh wow! Watched this with my little girls when they were tiny. Now 40years later, they watch it with their children!? They can't believe where the time has gone? I would do it all again in a heartbeat! Feed the birds ( which I do every day. )
I always cry when she leaves, I wish I could do her tricks,, I saw sit on dvd because it came out a long time before i was born. I’d love to see it in the cinema.
Although "Feed the Birds" is beautiful and solomn, at the end of the film when George Banks has had his redemption and the family is healed and they joyously sing "Let's Go Fly a Kite" I cry tears of joy.
Julie Andrews was on stage as Eliza Dolittle My Fair Lady. When they wanted to turn the play into a film they wanted a name and chose Audrey Hepburn. So Julie did Mary Poppins and won an Oscar for the role. She thank the producers ( who were there) for not casting her in My Fair Lady. Everyone had a good laugh.
I always thought Julie Andrews is a Class Act and had the voice of an Angel, but watching an interview with her she retold a story involving her and Carol Burnett. Turns out she's quite the cheeky and funny lady too. It only made me love her more
Let’s Go Fly a Kite is my favorite. I also love The Perfect Nanny song which I didn’t see mentioned in the comments. I took both of my children to see (the Original) Mary Poppins at my local old large single movie theater that showed classic films every now and then. It was wonderful! I wanted their first move experience to be special. Thanks for the revisit. I was surprised that Julie Andrews in Eloise wasn’t mention, or did I miss it? I’ll rewatch. We rewatch watched the Eloise movies along with Mary Poppins for years. Make it a great day everyone!
Feed the Birds by far is the best song from Mary Poppins. I personally have seen Mary Poppins over 250 times! To say that I am a fan is an understatement. And yes, I own a first edition of the P.L. Travers novel! As far as the remake goes? It was okay but there is nothing that can copy or even come close to the original, the chemistry, the songs, and the fact that Walt had his magic all over that movie, that's something that can never be recreated.
I have 2 favourites and they are: Jolly Holiday and the beautiful ballad Feed The Birds. An extraordinary film with an exceptional cast, thank-you Walt Disney for pushing for it to be made into a fantastic film.
Glynis Johns and David Tomlinson also performed together in the 1948 British movie, "Miranda", where she played a Mermaid. She reprised the role several years later in the film "Mad about men".
What a WONDERFUL documentary about a great musical that brings so memories back! It takes one back to the times movies were decent, made for families to see and prove that anyone can enjoy a great movie without any profanity, violence or sex. Today's Hollywood IS sick! I am sure Walt Disney would be so shocked about that trash is being put out today in the name of entertainment as opposed to what great movie executives like Walt Disney did. Thank you very much for such a great experience of the past!
Julie Andrews is the one and only Mary Poppins ! She is the only star who got 4 big awards for her first film role /Mary Poppins - an Oscar ,a Golden Globe a, Bafta and a Grammy! My favorite number is of course, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, which defines what this movie means to me and so many, thanks to Walt Disney, the wonderful cast and crew, but especially the amazingly beautiful and talented Julie Andrews! Spit spot!
The little girl is just one year older then me! 👧👦 Remember supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Lol 😂 makes everything all better! 🕺🏼💃🏻🏯🏙🇬🇧 Mary Poppins! 🌂☔🌈🌁🌫🌬
Let's Go Fly a Kite is also my favourite song! My next favourites include The Life I Lead, Fidelity Feducialy Bank and Sister Suffragette. Mary Poppins Returns was to me simply okay, but it'll never beat the awesome classic one! - for one thing, when I saw it, I was like "What's happened to Bert?"
Great video and a beautiful tribute to a great cast. One problem only: that is Brandon De Wilde's B&W picture (head shot) in the Matthew Garber section. Otherwise flawless. 👍
Thank you for such a very Disney-esque presentation. It was very enjoyable. Having had three abusive fathers growing up and never having a dad to fly a kite with, "Let's Go Fly a Kite" always made me feel good as I imagined flying a kite with someone who cared about me; maybe some time the Heavenly father will fly a kite with me when I go to see Him. I had a grandmother named Mary - as a matter of fact she was the only Mary I ever knew - and I liked to sing "It's a Jolly Holiday with Mary" to her whenever we went out together. unfortunately, "Chim Chim Cheree" and "Step in Time" were so obnoxious to me, I usually leave the room when they come on. "A Spoon Full of Sugar" is always a happy and very useful song to whistle. But "Feed the Birds" has always moved me the most, even now in my 50s. I absolutely loved the entire cast of MARY POPPINS, but I was also able to easily embrace the new MARY POPPINS cast; and though I didn't think the songs quite lived up to the catchy lovely tunes of the original, it was nevertheless a very delightful movie and the actors perfectly cast.
What's your favorite song from Mary Poppins? 🤔
Spoonful of sugar
Spoonful of sugar! We really tried to clean our room by snapping our fingers, as children 😂
Step In Time. Enough said. :)
"Stay Awake"
Lets go fly and kite!
Nobody can replace julie andrews. She one of those irreplaceable stars!
Well, Emily Blunt replaced Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins Returns
But none can replace her voice even though she cant sing anymore
She won an Oscar to prove it,lol.
I was 13 when I saw Mary Poppins and it’s been a forever favorite. Now, 57 years later, my grandchildren adore it. My favorite song is and has always been “Feed the Birds”. The entire scene is surreal.
It really is! So magical with the snow-globe🕊️🕊️🕊️ As children, we loved it, and still do as adults.
I love Mary Poppins I cry when she leaves
Me too!
My favorite song as well.

Ohhhhhh boy! Painful! I'm so sorry.
There is a sequel
your dad has gone into the next world....what he needs most of all from u now is your prayers for him
I’ve always said Julie Andrews was a class act. And Dick VanDyke is a master comedian and actor
Love them both
Yes and Dame Angela Lansbury.
@@aldod3937 The titular role of this movie, believe it or not, had once been considered for Angela Lansbury!

This are my favorite songs too, but I love all songs from Mary Poppins 1 and 2. And the German version is better.

@@thetoysofchildhood yes I did that was so cool! A big treat then!
