I can see why Carsten is number 1. Absurd level of movement and is able to hit quality balls from extreme defensive positions. Close match that I think was narrowly decided by Carsten's physicality. Simon, I love your aggressive game plan and feel your strokes are generally of a higher quality then the two opponents I've seen you face so far and as such know you'll get to number 1 if you stick with it!
Simon! Awesome playing, you got it man! Keep going loved watching this and your technique in action! More entertaining than some professional matches in my opinion. Let’s go!
For not having played competitively for so long, you looked pretty darn good out there Simon! After seeing the first few games I really thought you were going to take control of the match. Keep up the awesome work!
Been loving watching the matches and seeing the things you teach us on the channel within the context of a match. I feel lucky that we’re all able to learn from you Simon
watching this match makes me think you're in the running for the #1 ITF player in your age group once you get your match chops back and lose that extra bit of weight. great match, looking forward to the next episode!
Without a doubt I mean he was up 3 love in the first set whooping the #1s ass till he lost the lead but 40pounds down and more matches down he’s got it
@@franciscoanguiano9838 He's a great coach and has such a great game. Anyone on the other side of 35 knows that the weight creep can be a tough nut to crack -- if he drops even 20 lbs. he's going to dominate, and feel a lot fresher the next day. Good luck, Simon! Thanks for all you do!
This could have gone either way. Incredible game; truly enjoyed watching you performing like the 10 years never happened. The lefty FH was legendary. You're exceptionally talented Simon. I can't imagine when you start fine-tuning what a beast you'll be. With all my support and looking forward to more greatness, regardless of scores and numbers. Cheers, MM
Simon, that was a really high quality game - could have gone either way!! Your net play was awesome - hardly lost a point! Keep going, loving watching your match play having followed you for years coaching
Simon's a baller and that was a solid effort against a rabbit. Is anyone going to talk about Simon's LEFT HANDED FOREHAND, not even Kyrgios has that is his bag of tricks. Also, there's not a lot of players that can roll their two-handed backhand cross court like that, sweet.
I saw way much more tennis in Simon than in Carsten. 1st match after 10 yrs man! You are on your way to capture that top tier. Better reachouts better stretches previous working out fitness and your're the man.
thanks for the great videos, Simon. you have a very beautiful clean technique, I get pleasure from watching it, like from Federer's matches. you had the toughest type of opponent who returns every ball, great match!
Thanks, it's great to see you in the real world. Often looking at RUclips videos it make it look perfect when someone is just rallying and hitting good looking strokes in edited footage. You two play at a very high level, your opponent is very good. Thanks again and good luck
That was great to watch - really like Simon's serve, volleys, backhand cross crt, and backhand smash in particular. Although both have great shots all around. Some wild bounces to deal with too, court looked lively! Props to both, a very high level and very watchable.
Awesome stuff - keep at it. The level of consistency, pace, and shot selection is pretty great. Would be cool to see the game score as well to see what your point structure looks like based on the situation. I.e. being 15-40 down for example. Looking forward to more vids!
Kudos again Simon 👏 Again regardless of outcome, from your supporters out here, seeing the ground realities of practice meeting professional play ... that itself is so instructive. Thanks for sharing and bearing all you've got!
I was just admiring the angels you produce off your backhand on the shorter balls. You nailed almost all of them... his forehand from depth and ability to scramble saved him. Most times you came to the net , or pulled him to the net or pinned him on his backhand , you won.
This was so much fun to watch. #1 is very very fit and that made the difference, but your shot and play making is definitely superior. Looking forward to seeing more matches
Your sharp-angled crosscourt backhand (sharpie?) in the TB is worth the price of the ticket! Really tough opponent, physically a beast, simple plan, often forces you to rush it. The court-level camera shows the struggle of you both. Yep, I'm sure you can make the top 100. Thank you for sharing :)
What a great match. Both guys playing high percentage tennis. Can learn a lot from this. That is why i just subscribed. Cant wait to watch more videos. Thanks!
I think we'll have a new ITF over 35s no1 soon, great game! He's certainly a road runner, but a little more touch and control you'll win it at the net imo. Second set 5th game was huge coming back from 0-40 and that massive kicker lol. 6th game 2nd set - lefty forehand was pretty damn cool. Awesome stuff Simon, thanks for sharing.
Well played Simon!! Can’t wait to see the next episode, it’s so inspiring! Mix n match with the serve volley more, it looked like it worked well for you. Keep going 👊🏼
Great skills applied during the match and good to see that you apply everything that you teach! Good match plan against a lefty pusher and great nett approaches! Thanks a lot for posting this video and I wish your dream come true because you have all that is needed.
Thanks for sharing Simon...awesome experience competing....Happy to hear that Alex is on a come-back on the senior tour :) ....ITF Tourney in Mt Tremblant, near Montreal, in June if you guys want to come down :)
Great Simon! You are improving and on the right track..looking forward to your oncoming matchen..weight reduktion and footwork..You have all the tools needed.
Hi Simon... definitely you played better than your first game...you were more patient & made him play more...your stamina & movement also seems to have improved...gr8t going, you are on your way to being no.1..cheers
Simon, you seemed to be the tactically and technically better player. It’s just hard to beat retrievers on clay, man. It requires such patience and such a high level of execution. You were right there. Really enjoyed watching you move forward and take the net. And your short angle cross court bh was unreal.
Very nice match, tricky opponent, a talented amateur with great movement, I also get very motivated by amateur tournaments to stay in shape, have fun Simon! Have been enjoying your videos a lot! Very nice backhand smashes by the way!
Awesome Simon. Bo Alburo here. This is my wife’s account. I’ve gotten to no. 2 in 35’s way back 2019. You could have done damage if not for the bad draw. Keep going. Hope to see you soon on the seniors tour.
Thanks Simon, I’ve just been watching a great fight. Loved your clean volleys and sneaky attacks when returning. Hope you can soon play on hard court and win more easy points thanks to your serve and offensive game. As your opponent of the day would say: « Ayaaaa ! »
Hi Simon, very happy to see you "walk the talk". Match play is another beast altogether & you have taken on the beast head on. You still need a little more conditining, else no way for you to lose from a 3-0 lead in the first. However, you're on the right path. Keep us inspired with your matches & improvement
Simon clearly practices the tips he preaches. All around game is solid. Plenty of variety in shots and patterns. Can see him being very tricky to play because he has so much in his arsenal.
Really cool set of videos! Would be fun to see some behind the scenes of your own tennis training and perhaps some of the fitness too? Keep up the good work!
Simon you are a beast! I love your videos and your level of play is super solid. I don't mean this to be anything but supportive but if you could focus on fitness it's obvious your ability would go through the roof. I'm probably at least ten years older than you and still play at a high level and can tell you that focusing on your fitness now at your age will do wonders for you on court and off in the years to come. Again, please don't take this the wrong way. Thanks for the content.
I am writing from Chile. Well done Simon. You have plenty of shots, variations etc. All is about fitness, so get fit and you may reach easily the top 5. The ITF#1 run like a rabbit, so very fit.
Great playing Simon! You did everything you could to win that match. You mixed things up and you made him work for his points. Once you get a bit more match fitness, you should be challenging for titles. I hope you had fun and enjoyed competing again. 👍💪
Great match, great improvement since the last tournament. Way to use the short angles this time. Your opponent's grunting before hitting the ball and way after hitting was quite annoying!
Well done, Simon! Not so easy to play against a lefty. The match could be very differently if you could make 4-0 in the first. You had some issues with the return, hitting the net several times, especially with the backhand. You improved this during the match. I guess you should keep playing the backhand topspin, as you tend to play a slightly passive slice, often giving the initiative to your opponent (I have the same problem). You forehand and service are incredible strong. Looking forward to see the next match!
Wow, GG and thanks for uploading. Your opponent reminds me of an amateur version of Nadal. That dude was covering like the entire (CLAY) court in an INSTANT. Though, you have superior ground-strokes/serve.
Very close game. Your movement looked even better than the last match. The opponent was quick and consistent, but you had some great games and made it exciting from start to finish. You can be proud of yourself.
Many thanks for the support. A lot of fitness work between the final (video one) and this match, only 5 days between them but I already felt 15-20% fitter
wpuld love to see you come in a little more. you have the game and mostly your choice of when to approach is good. maybe to stick those first volleys more often would help. great match again. keep going.
Much improved fitness over the last one. I thought you faded a little in the middle of the first set but got your second wind and finished strong. Did you get a little tight in the tiebreaker? Only you can tell but it looked like you were in control after getting back the mini break then missed a few routine ones. These videos do help us who are far below your level so keep them coming.
Well done! Typical luck drawing a No.1 seed early on 🙄. But you played great and certainly had a chance! Also loved seeing the left handed forehand pass attempt. Good on the camera battery to hold out for that one!
Thoroughly enjoyed watching you kick his butt in the first 3 games though. Obviously it's a fitness thing at this level, and as soon as he started to roll the ball more and dictate the points to his tempo instead of yours, things changed quickly. Whether it was fitness, or more seemingly nerves and breathing, you are clearly the better player...He just grinded you out like nobody's business that day... I feel like you would probably destroy him on a faster surface, but even on clay and with your current fitness(which is pretty amazing at it is), great match and much to be proud about! Too bad you didn't break him in that 4th game, because I feel like it not only had the highlight point of the match but you probably would have bageled him and won the match. Awesome video!
I’ve watched the match twice and it appears Carsten used a strategy of always going to Simon’s BH. Using different depths and angles to control the point. Then once an opportunity arises, he’ll go to the FH. I also noticed Carsten used his slice BH more often than driving- to get depth and neutralise the point from Simon. Definitely a good match from both players, but Carsten won by sticking to this strategy.
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Yes, definitely you’re too good not to be able to adjust to this strategy. Continue doing what you’re doing - definitely an inspiration to a lot of people trying to get better at this great sport. 👍
Props Simon. Solid stuff mate. Honestly, having followed for years now I have seen you have the strokes and game, but also know we are all getting older. So even though you do keep in relatively good shape I wondered how the body would hold up overall. You are doing much better than I expected, but I think you mentioned dropping some LBS would definitely make it easier and less prone to injuries (I know this first hand anymore being WAY more out of shape).

Definitely a good match from both players, but Carsten won by sticking to this strategy.
Of course, Simon’s going to get better with more matches under his belt and so will be able to counter this strategy in future matches.
Ultimately it came down to my unforced error count being wayyyy too high, due to match rust.
