GREAT NEWS! A follower of the channel confirmed to me the 2021 Armada he owns has Japan-sourced engine and transmission. 95% of the vehicle is from Japan parts. Final assembly point in Kanda Kukuoka Japan. This surely would be true for all 2021+ model years.
I am FINALLY getting one of these it looks like. They make an "S" trim with fewer bells and whistles again and the end of year incentives are crazy. For the 4WD "S' the MSRP is only 55k to begin with, and the end of year incentives are huge this year (supposedly an update is coming next year). It may never be this affordable again to buy a Nissan Patrol new (albeit a decontended one). The "S" I am looking at still has LED headlights, 360 degree camera though. But the stereo is only 4 speaker, the rear view mirror is manual, the outside mirrors are still heated. Exactly the simple but incredible sturdy, high mechanical content, lifetime durability SUV one would want. And I am paying less than a new loaded Pathfinder or 4Runner, for brand new full size V8 body-on-frame goodness.!! 🥰
Big, powerful and reliable suv. I see a lot of these and QX80’s in my area, even the 15-20yr older gens. Great looking suv even though it’s old Looking forward to the next gen of these and hopefully they create a big enough differentiation between this and the Infiniti.
Consumer Reports doesn't have any detailed owner's reliability survey data on this generation Armada nor the QX80. But they give it only 2 out of 5 rating. Not sure why.
I absolutely love these Armada/qx80’s. We’ve seen how durable, capable, reliable, and plain ol bad ass the Patrol is overseas. So if you’re needing a solid family hauler that can do work when you need it to, these are great.
I’m from the middle east and we love the patrol. Both y61 safari and y62. The y62 is such great car for its price so luxurious and smooth while driving even the 4.0V6 is smooth
I have a used 2011 QX56 (QX80 for the newer models & pretty much an upscale armada) and I love it. So much power, so much space, super comfortable, reliable, and off road capable. My only gripe with it is the 13mpg I get combined. Still a great buy for $16k if you ask me.
KK, the Armada may be a harder car to sell new right now, but it's the perfect time to look for a used one that was traded in a hasty reaction to gas prices.
I rented the 2021 Nissan Armada Platinum for 3 days and fell in love with it. I had a 2015 Dodge Charger Hemi and really enjoyed the power and speed of the car. Sold the Charger and purchased a Toyota Tacoma. After driving the Armada I realized how much I missed the Horsepower of the V8. I sold my new Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and purchased a 2021 Nissan Armada Platinum and love it. After doing lots of research I discovered that the Armada and the Patrol are the exact same vehicles other than a few minor details. The Armada has everything the Patrol has for off-road. Same vehicle that is sold in different markets under a different name.
Which do you think will be the last Asian company to make V8s: Nissan or Toyota? Even though Toyota got rid of V8 for Sequoia and Lexus LX, the GX still has a V8
I rented an Armada a few years ago for a road trip and it was the ideal highway cruiser; arrived feeling like I hadn't been riding for 8 hours. Highway mpg was 17, but luckily gas was under $2 per gallon. But Kirk, where is our CX-50 review?
11:33 That would have been my question. How does this thing stack up against the LX you recently drove. Yea i know they are not in the same brand park. But they are both japanese 80k body on frame NA V8 big utes. Sure the QX would be a more direct but you dont have that. Id be curious stacking it up against the Lex in ride, power, day to day?
They're so similar it's crazy. LX is stacked with newer tech, but I prefer this 5.6 to the boosted v6 in the LX. Also enjoy the 5.6 V8 to Toyota's 5.7 overall. Both are super quiet, but the Lexus getting the edge there. Lexus seats are superior but I really dig the bird's eye maple here. I feel baddass in both, but a feel like a king in the LX haha.
Just sold my -17 Nissan Tital Platinum Rerseve, was offered too much and already miss it. A lot. Purchased a new Lexus 450h, while I love it, I wish it were bigger.... Maybe time for a trade?
With this, there's no reason for the QX80. no difference except for the name.... This is good enough.. I really hope in the next generation, there will be enough difference between the two and the Pajero as well... Anyway this is the most underrated SUV in the market!
I’ve become interested in theses. Always considered NIssan the gas station Tuna sandwich of the big three Japanese autos, Nissan does seem to be upping their game. Knowing this is based on the Patrol is appealing. It would cool if Nissan offered a US version of the Patrol with all the off road equipment.
Love the review and the Armada. I have a 2019SL and am waiting to take delivery of my 22. I am so disappointed to hear that the Rear Seat Entertainment does not stream audio over the vehicles speaker system??? That's a huge problem (I have 3 kids) and I installed aftermarket DVD system into our SL and it broadcasts the audio over FM so everyone can enjoy the movie in the back... this might change things for me... :(
Wow, I did not realise these are shipped out of the Japanese factory without an engine. Is this unique? Can't think of any other vehicle that's brought to its market like this.
I was suppose to get a mid size rental and got stuck with this monster. Went back but they had nothing else. Ok it was a rental about a month ago but thing is junk. I felt every crack on the road not to mention every bump. Thing bottoms out constantly. Went to a concert with one daughter on Long Island when in town and wouldn’t drive this crap into New Hampshire to visit other daughter. I didn’t feel safe driving it and that comes from someone who drives a Lexus GX as a daily. Sucks gas worse than GX too.
Awesome glad to see that they didn't chop the front window so you don't bump your head. So you actually get comfort and utility for the money instead of a UFO aero cheater bullet concept thing
Its just a Nissan Patrol USA got a cool entertainment update Here in overseas we have the same interior back in 2008 Ps: I was in high school when they introduced this generation Now im 27 and yet still the Patrol hasn’t changed, the Land Cruiser got a Refresh.

However the trucks like Terra and Navara are sturdy and strong, we have same generation of Nissan as in USA. However all downgraded and Jatco CVT adds unreliability
13:00 I highly doubt Nissan would stuff a modified VQ in the new Armada. Not seeing that. Id argue they leave the v8 currently in there until its deemed illegal at which point dump the model. Numbers...
Its offroading heritage is a credit but also a huge problem for the Armada. It forced a shorter wheel base and thus the third row became a penalty box compared to the main competitors.

I have rented this vehicle twice, each for a week at a time. Yes, it was not this level trim, but my criticism is not related to that. Compared to the Ford Expedition I also rented for a week, the Armada driving dynamics are cumbersome, difficult to steer, suspension wallows, and difficult to quickly orient where the wheels are. The turning radius and parallel parking were also difficult. Roomy yes, a good family hauler yes. But I would not buy one. If you want one, rent it for a few days first to make sure you like it.
7:46 Can anyone name ANY car truck or SUV with a back seat entertainment system worth getting. I call them BS as you say you get far better product spending the same $ going to Apple and buying two pads for your little ones.
Nissan still using that old transmission and not the much better nine speed which is in the Titan. This thing has a wonderful reputation for having its engine destroy itself and the dealer laugh hysterically. It's a Nissan; it means you buy this instead of something better

Also called Nissan Patrol in other markets. Highly reliable SUV that can last upto 25 years with regular servicing.
Heard they have been developing a 3.5 TT V6 for the patrol since 2015.
