Derek, since my father's passing I've tried to fix any car issues myself by going through the owners manual or RUclips videos. I watched two other videos before yours on changing the low beam headlight on my Kia Optima. You explained slowly and in full exactly how to change the bulb. THANK YOU FOR TELLING me not to use a screwdriver!!! The pliers worked perfectly. My headlights work exactly as they should! Thank you for helping me do it myself!!! Julie
Thank you for this how-to video. You did a very good job explaining the process without glossing over details, such as which way to turn the bulbs to loosen them. Also, loosening the coolant reservoir tank and moving it aside temporarily helped a great deal on the passenger side. Thanks again!
I don’t know if you still checked these comments but after going to a few auto stores and getting told they didn’t know how to do it I watched your video and got both of them replaced within 20 minutes! Thank you so much, you are the man!!!
Thank you for this video! I just replaced both of my low beam headlights on my 2012 Kia Optima. I spent $47 (w/ tax) and 20 minutes replacing them. My hands are small, so I only had to remove the coolant tank on the passenger side. On the driver's side I just crammed my hand in there and it worked out. Thanks again, your instructions were very helpful!
I have a 2013 Optima and these instructions were applicable. Replaced passenger side bulb as shown; used s 10 mm long socket to remove the bolts for the coolant reservoir . Thanks for the video!

I'm watching this video for my 2011 Kia Optima. I had watched many videos on this, but Mr. Campbell has given me hope. I had a kind worker at Autozone assist me in snow/rain/wind and got it in place. I drove it home and it was out by the time I got home. It was difficult to get the new bulb in. I gave the Autozone dude a $50.00 bill for his efforts. It stopped working shortly thereafter. It was not the Autozone dudes lack of trying, it's a KIA poor design. I'm going to try to use this video to make it work again. Thanks to Mr. Campbell for your help/instruction. You have the voice of Baz Luhrmann (he's the voice of 'Wear Sunscreen' fame music/song).

Your explanation was the best!!! I was having a problem with the drivers side until I took the cover off the fusebox. The bulb cover was stuck and I broke it, too. I used a tiny pair of pliers that were for repairing jewelry and it worked! Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this great tutorial! A few days ago, I took my car to a KIA dealership to change the driver side headlight. They charged me $70 just for labor; for less than a thirty minute job. Outrageous!! Now I can do it myself! lol :)
Much much better than the other videos which didn't show into the compartment where the light is. Cool resolution and auto focus. Oh, and I broke the plastic turning in the new bulb but it works.
FYI if it helps anyone: Just recently learned while changing the low beams that Optima's with HID bulbs have a screw at the 6 o'clock position on the cover. Very convenient. Guess I've been fortunate that in all my years of driving and replacing headlights none of the covers have ever come off.
I am trying to replace these halogens with LEDs and i was successful in replacing for high beam and fog lights. But the issue I have is that the, for high beams, should I put the back cover, back on the light or is it ok to leave the bulbs exposed from back? Great video, btw. Saved me a lot of hassel.
I have a 2013 optima sxl with hid, the stupid cover has a screw I would recommend a angle Philips screwdriver, then remove the clip and install and use gloves.
My 2012 had a screw also, I thought I had mentioned it🙄 It took me awhile to figure it out because I had done the passenger's side first and the screw is hidden from view. If you do the driver's side first, you would see the screw right away and then you would know that the screw is there for the other side.
Driver side tutorial starts at 6:23. A bit harder install than the passenger side, but thanks to God and long slender hands it was a breeze without removing anything else. Thanks for the video, money savings, and the tip about not touching the bulb.
Maybe a shot of penetrating oil using the thin straw attached to the nozzle? Small footprint for oil to hit rather than spraying it all around in there? That's what I would try.
I got the bulb out easily, but when I try to replace it I just can't get it to turn into place. I believe it is lined up properly but it just won't turn. Should I use pliers? Any suggestions?
I would not use pliers Bob. I would: 1. Make sure you have the bulb the car calls for, and 2. Make sure it is aligned properly, then push it in and turn it clockwise to seat it into position. If you dont feel it seat into position, my guess is either you haven't pushed it in properly or have the wrong bulb. I'm sorry but I dont have any other suggestions for you. Maybe someone else has experienced this and can provide further advice.

CJB CJB there's no way that headlight cap could be that tight Did you try turning it the other way? I dont believe that's always the case with the 2015 Optima. It is possible they have come out of alignment. Have you contacted Kia to ask or another mechanic to look at them?
Kris Wingert he explains how to turn the lightbulb by holding it in his hand. it's a 90° turn. it's not that complicated. if you couldn't carry over the concept by imagining it inside of the housing then we'll, you're absolutely right. there's really no help for you. go to the dealership and have em do it for you for $75. Well, the angle that bulb is in and the fact the fuse block is directly in the way of getting a good hold of it is a crappie design. The bulb is jammmed in my assembly I guess. The passenger side was hard to turn, but did come out. He shows the bulb in his hand but never really showed him taking it out.
To reply to jerryz, I am not a moron and can carry over the "concept" of turning a light socket 90"(poorly designed lock a that). Kia/Hyndai are the only ones who use this fixture mount. I have been repairing mu cars for 30 years (brakes, axles, water and power steering pumps, audio, ,dash clusters, fuel systems.. see a trend here?). So this is not "lost" to me, he simply does not show how he got this hard to get at angle of removal to work, just shows a "TA DA" here's a bulb to you. He obviously must have moved the battery or fuse box, maybe both to get this out. It is complicated when there is little to no room to get enough torque behind a stubborn fit for the device being removed. Look at the video again, it is just not "turn in a 90" angle and pop it goes". Evidently, others have had to remove the bumper to extract the headlight assembly to get this ill designed bulb out, as his tag says "no need to remove front bumper assembly", so it must not be just me who cannot get these bulbs out. The bulb is even twice the price because of the design!
Even harder to do on a 2011 KIA Optima Hybrid. The fuse box is in same spot but there are other immovable items where the battery is since it is in the truck. Had to loosen the entire headlight assembly and move it forward the maximum I could (1 inch maybe) to get my hand in there. Even then couldn't get the right angle to turn the new bulb. Ended up fabricating something to put in there to grip the bulb and twist it. Sad part is the high end bulbs will fail within a year and I'll get to do it all again. Might switch to LEDs at that time just to eliminate the massive headache.
I watched a number of these videos and this one is BY FAR the best. Explained better, and the video was very clear. Good Job!!!

The bulb is even twice the price because of the design!
jerryz jajaja!
