- A quick video to show you how to remove the headlight assembly on your kia optima. Mine is a 2012 so this may very a bit from different year models. Also it's how you can remove the bumper
Gonna dive into this tomorrow on my daughter's car. This seemed to be one of the better vids I found.
Great job, like the video. At 3:15 you mentioned about the three brackets the head light to remove by pushing from the inside the bumper and not to pull, I found that you can disconnect the bracket that hold the three tabs by removing the two no. 10 nuts and removing the one no. 10 bolt. And it will pull away without worrying of breaking the tabs.
I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart, i have been trying to find a way to replace lights on my optima, and this has been the best video!!!!
Thank you for myself as well. I searched and searched and couldn't find what you just did. Saved me so much more aggrevation. Everyone says... Just call me if you need help with car. Then, they all suck by not following thru. Lol so, I got this, because of people like yourself on RUclips.
Thanks, you made my Saturday a lot easier 👍🏻
Great video. I was able to swap my lights out in about hour thanks to your tips! Much appreciated.
Thanks man. Was able to replace the HL assembly in under an hour.
Great the only one I found about this. Thanks!
You know what I think I’m good with my stock headlights 😂
Thank you for posting this video! It was very helpful!
I can’t get to the left car headlight to change bulbs. No space for hands. So do I need to remove the whole thing? It’s a 2016 Kia optima. Great video.
Your video was a great help. Thanks
I really appreciate the instructions! 🙌
Great video, helped a bunch!!
Thanks, got the mirror flaking issue and have to replace the assembly. I've got a 10mm and a screwdriver, looks like I'm g2g!
Thank You for this. I also have a hybrid and am tired of breaking my knuckles and catching the bold from all the cuts. Appreciate it.
car designers prob have never spent any time actually working on a vehicle
good lord. what a massive PITA! thanks for the video.
This was so helpful, but I have some notes for those going to try it:
My Kia is 2013 EX
The bolt on the wheel well he can't show you is 8mm not 10mm
It looks like he modified his air intake, I needed to remove two bolts on mine to get the panel off (the one he already had removed)
There were two nuts and a PITA bolt I had to remove that is not mentioned here, but I found in another video. It's part of a bracket holding everything together under the headlights. Otherwise I would have torn my bumper.
Oh, and buy the replacement screw clips before you start! LOL there's a good video if you can't remove them (you have to pry them out)
I have very little experience working on cars and this was my first time doing a project like this on my own 😁 but I did it!

@beaniegrl420 My optima was a hybrid model so that could be why some things were different
@ipp2109 oh that makes sense then! 💯
@@ipp2109 and thank you for making the video!! You saved me so much money man LOL ❤️
Thanks for the vid.l am having issues with my HID lights and apparently it’s the reflective coating...common issues w Kia Optima
.This keeps me from have to go to the dealer🙂.
Thanks, this video helped. What a pain in the butt that was though!
Thank you for posting the nice video.
Great video! Thanks for the warning about prying the bumper off carefully. No plastic parts broke! :-)
What led kit are you using on your kia optima I have the 2016 kia optima sx turbo with the dynamic lights that self adjust
@williamticker7724 I used XKglow led lights. With your light package, you probably have HID lights, which can't be switched to led(at least i don't think so). Mine were the basic halogen style.
Having trouble taking off the headlight cover from the driver's side without having to remove the whole bumper n what not. Any tips?
Every sound made me cringe but thank you i fell asleep driving so not only do i need a new headlight. I also have too replace my bumper so you saved me time
Glad the video could help, sorry to hear that happened though
Great video, but my question is how did you run that big wire , or which way did you? Under the car or through the firewall?? Do you have video or pictures,, im installing a audio system in mine is reason im asking
Great video , why they have to make everything So complicated , Lot of work to replace the HL Thank You for sharing ..
Thanks for video
Thank You for sharing
Do you have any suggestions on where to buy a new headlight assembly from?
I would call kia and get the part number than Google it. A lot of times, other dealers or part wearhouses will be selling OEM for much cheaper
eBay

Hey man. Can the whole housing be fully disassembled cause Im about to install white side markers on mine.
Yeah, every hosting can be. You'd have to look up some videos but you need to heat up the assembly to loosen the glue holding it together. I belive its 220 degrees in the oven for 7 minutes
Thanks!!!
How did you do a led conversion
Every single video on this car is the passenger side replacement, I'm assuming the driver side is the same concept?
Yup, the exact same, just flipped
What are those orange hoses you have on there
It's a hybrid. The high voltage wires are covered in orange to distinguish them from everything else.
When I'm putting the thhhkreewws back in, do thkrew them tight?
Shut up
Serious question,
I recently busted my headlight . I bought a used one online but I believe its for a 2013or2014 not my 2015.
From what I can tell the lights are identical , BUT the female end of the plug doesn’t match the male end.
Is Cutting , splicing the wires and switching plug ins an option ?
As of now I’m kinda screwed with having no light in general due to damage.. any advice helps!
It’s most likely for a 2013 as the 2014 is the refreshed year and 2015 is a carryover. The plug ends are different because of some minor changes in the wiring for the upper end models. There’s ways to rewire it. I’d suggest googling it and researching forums
How did u remove the D1s?
Good one!
Will this apply for a 16 forte
It'll probably be similar, but the location of the clips and screws would be different.
Alright so take it to a body shop, got it.
Dude what kind of wheels are those, and where did you get them😭😭👀👀
They are actually the 18 inch rims from a 16 kia forte koup sx. The inside comes gunmetal, but I painted mine black
You should have backed your car up a lot more. That other car was distracting. Otherwise good video and instructions.
That is a Mazda!!!
Crazy KIA has you remove a bumper to change a turn signal bulb.
You do not have to remove headlight assembly, much less the bumper to change the turn lamp bulb. But you do have to remove the bumper to remove the entire headlamp assembly as he did in this video. He clearly says that at the end.
Breaks tab... anyway. You can't really see it properly... anyway. Lols
So uhh. Its dark out....i watched like first minute, got grille and top bolts out thinking that was it 😭😭😭 im gonna just squeeze and scrape my hands, my old forte was 2 bolts on the top of headlight and that was it, this is a whole days work
Well I must be an idiot because this completly broke main clips under the headlight for my bumper....
Dude, use a flashlight so we can see what your doing lol
Why, just why Kia? It’s a headlight!
You can replace the headlight without doing any of that. Just a simple cover over the back, But to remove the assembly you gotta take the bumper off
@@ipp2109 yeah, but to change turn signals you still have to deal with the bumper and everything else that was in this video
