Good evening! And welcome to another narrated walk on the channel! On this walk, we're taking a tour of the northernmost town in England - Berwick-upon-Tweed, which is home to perhaps the highest density of history and heritage you'll find in the country. We mentioned many of the fascinating stories of Berwick's history on this tour, but there were still a few things we didn't get the chance to cover. The famous artist LS Lowry often holidayed here in Berwick, and a number of his sketches depict scenes from the town, including a view off the ramparts, and a view of Berwick Lighthouse. Another interesting fact about Berwick that owes itself to the town's hybrid nationality comes with its football team, Berwick Rangers. They play their home games across the river in Tweedmouth, but a few seasons ago, Berwick Rangers were unique in being the only English club to play in the Scottish football league. They've since been sadly relegated, but here's hoping the team can make their way back up into that unparalleled position :)
Thank you. I live in Berwick. I’m not a geordie. I’m further nort. I’m a Northumbrian but indeed as you said the accent is changing. My wife’s accent is Scottish . Her family coming from Dunbar, over the boarder there. We are a family of nine. I love this walking tour. Ii have to say you missed a gem of a sanctuary of peace and tranquility. Maybe you want to keep it to yourself. If you’re walking into the train station. There is a beautiful garden hidden away down on the left. I’m not sure many folk know this. It is so peaceful. Maybe Victorian. Looks like you’re going back to Berwick. Upon tweed. As did the artist Lowry. Their is something I can’t explain about living their.
I visited from the US last year, driving across Scotland and England by car. I only had a chance to drive through, as I had no previous knowledge of Berwick. I was struck by the town hall. Although we have similar buildings from our colonial period, there's an undeniable charm and mystique about the place. Love this.
I visited Berwick for the first time last July. What a wonderful place. I parked in the large car park near the parish church and Barracks. I bought a parking disc from a nearby cafe/museum. It only cost £1 and can be used every day in many car parks throughout Northumberland for ever. What great value. I hope to visit again in 2022 and will follow your route around town.
Wow! That's quite a deal - and you've certainly got more than enough places to explore around Northumberland, an absolutely magical county :) Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoy your next visit to Berwick, and that you have a good walk following this route too!
I'm so glad you liked it - Berwick is certainly a wonderful place to explore and walk around! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words :)
Thank you for such a wonderful and interesting insight into our history of Berwick upon tweed used to take our children on holiday at the Berwick holiday centre from London in the 1980s such a lovely town ,used to shop in Woolworths and have some lovely meals in the upstairs bakery in the town fantastic memories there .
Thank you for your throughly interesting video off Berwick, I was there last week , I live over the border in Roxburghshire in Scotland, I’ve been visiting Berwick my whole life and I’ve learned a lot of history that I didn’t know about.
Oh that's wonderful to hear! The Borders are a fascinating part of the country that I've really enjoyed visiting too - and like you say, there's always something new to discover when it comes to a captivating town like Berwick :) Thank you so much for watching!
WOW, stunning video, probably your best made even better by the audio commentary. Your videos are so interesting with so many facts that I sometimes miss views or subtitles, the commentary was perfect, we got the information and were able to take in the views, please make this the normal for the future. We visited Berwick a few years ago and stayed at The Castle near the railway station visiting Holy Island and Eyemouth among other places in the area. After a walk round the town we walked back along the Tweed and up some steps back to near the station and hotel.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video and the narrated format too! Rest assured that these narrated videos will be part of the weekly schedule into the future, so we've got many more places to explore :) Berwick and the surrounding area - Eyemouth and the Holy Island too - are absolutely wonderful places to visit as I'm sure you know well, plus that riverside walk in the town centre is so scenic!
Thank you so much! It was wonderful to take a stroll again around the beautiful town I grew up in. I now live thousands of miles away. Much has changed since then, but so much is still exactly as I remember it.
Fantastic tour of a town I grew in love with as a child although Scottish I regularly spent holidays there and never tire of visiting and seeing the town which for me makes it one of the most unique towns in the UK
I've been binge watching some of your content and my goodness you get out and about. Its refreshing to see you visit places that are not exactly on the tourist list ,like Hartlepool . I will definitely be putting some of these towns on my visit list for the summer, thank you for showing us around ❤️.
My heritage is from this beautiful town, I am at my happiest when on holiday up there! Thank you for this video, everyone you should visit! There is so much to see, you can do the Lowry walk and go across into Spittal.
I didn't know that one! It's a very striking building overlooking the ramparts - the views from inside must be spectacular :) Thank you so much for watching and for that extra bit of info - I'm really glad you enjoyed the walk!

I love Berwick , used to get an Explorer Bus Ticket 🎟 twice a week . And travelled when the Bus used to go from the Haymarket . It was quite a busy market then and I would buy grapes etc. Also bought mustard from the Honey 🍯 Farm. Would go on the Ramparts where the Supermarket is , then catch 3 express buses back home again . It’s a lovely ride our.
A marvellous video of this unique, historic town.. I had a great aunt and uncle who lived in Berwick. I visited with my mum when I was very small so my recollection is, sadly limited. I thoroughly enjoyed your walk.
Thank you so much for this! I'm visiting Berwick for the first time in March and your well researched video is such a good introduction and has helped me work out where i want to go when I visit
If you head to spital sea front is the galleon pub still there my husband stayed there in the seventies while visiting a friend who lived on the highcliff estate, he loved Berwick and hope's to visit again,
Thank you for the video 😀 you really know your history. I really liked the all the information you are giving us while filming. Can you do more videos like this?
I thought Berwick had changed hands 13 times. It was Scottish until Edward I, so that was the 1st and when it flipped flopped then when the English took it, it would be the 'odd' times. However....I love Berwick. Went down there very often when I was in my early-mid teens, initially staying right under the old bank at Bridge End and then acoss the river on Dean Drive, where I met the lovely Karyn, whose family used to own the Buckthorpe Inn. Anyhow enough of my reminiscing. Very enjoyable. Thumbs up.
You got a beautiful day for your visit, although the sun maks filming kind of tricky. Berwick's an interesting town, a place I only visited once, and I really enjoyed our walk. Your narration was excellent and I've decided; I definitely prefer the narrated walks.👌😁
Hello I am from Toronto Canada, my father was from Berwick; I always wondered what Berwick looked like and its history. I was always confused as to what my father was, was he Scottish, Irish, British and yet he never talked or acted like any of them, he was just rough and out-spoken.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed the narration - and many thanks for the feedback on some of the background noise, I'll try to rectify it in future :)
@@kevingraham8639 I have living in Berwick since 1969 and I have never heard it called shore gate. I lived roughly 100m from the gate for the first 19yrs years of my life in Palace St. I also know it's a grade 1 listing like a lot of the buildings here. My hours is over 450 yrs old.

Ha ha yes indeed - although I'm rather tempted to visit all these places once again if I can and make new narrated videos, plus that might show us what things have changed in the last couple of years :) Thank you so much for watching - I do hope you enjoyed this video!

Why did the conflict between Scotland and England never stop when Scotland was at power in Berwick .
They all love Geordie's , the ones left behind !
hello from Florida; narration is great improvement over subtitles, please continue to narrate
