Caesars palace is the building you asked about. I waitressed there when they first opened as a dance hall. It was pretty "FANCY" for Berwick. Looked like a night club you would see in a city. It was not a surprise it was not a successful venture for Berwick.
Berwick has some great walks along the river Tweed also 2 great beaches and Bridge Street has some great independent shops and bars, I do love Berwick and the great history that it has. I am biased as I live and work here.
Lovely to hear such kind comments about Berwick, my dad's side of the family are all from here. Most of them moved down south for work in the 80's, but we holiday up there frequently. It is my happiest place, everyone is so kind and outgoing and you can tell they live happy lives.
Nice to see fortes is still there ! I had a Saturday job in there when I was at school . Such a lovely family , they made their own ice cream and the father always left a bit in the tubs for us to eat when we were washing the pots . Happy days indeed ❤️
I've been to Berwick-on-Tweed twice. I remember the first time visiting, and as American the fascination I had with the archways for traffic and public. Also, the via duct bridge. Afterwards we rode a train on it. Brilliant. Thanks for another amazing walk and a memory of good times! :)
I was born there….but came from county durham….didn’t know history until working for doctor in Canada…I left UK at twenty….doc volunteer during war to teach doctors in UK….fast in…fast out. He was at Newcastle General and had fascination for area. He told me I was neither British or Scottish….ooops…that Berwick upon Tweed…had never voted either way. War started…England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Berwick upon Tweed signed declaration…upon end of war….England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales signed treaty…..berwick upon tweed forgotten…not until 1960s did it get signed…a representative from Germany came and documents were signed…doc didn’t tell me name of mayor…but said…as in area…mayor said to German representative…well, now your men can sleep in peace….
The flats opposite queens head used to be the town swimming pool . It was a half circle shape and had a cafe with viewing windows upstairs . All these memories flooding back, thank you again !,
Hi enjoyed your walk around we have been there a few times we always follow the Lowry trail searching for the places he painted Berwick was one of his favourite places to visit
@@GimbalWalkTV I suspect but here at home, we have a good foot of snow on the ground. Which won't melt but grow till spring in the Mtns. So it is still better in a few ways LOL
Mr Gimbal delivers again! ;) Great video and what a lovely place -well worth visiting and those beer prices just clinch the deal! Totally agree about the shops -they seem to be the "usual suspects" everywhere now...
These chains could at least try to blend in the local aesthetic with location suitable facades, but as we see in this video, the Iceland's of this world have to put their cheap, plastic signage above the shop door.
I have been here once and would like to visit again. A lovely town. Go up to the viaduct, some nice walks up there. It's worth walking around the whole of the wall too! My B&B was hopeless, so thanks for sharing other options.
Great video, there is a Youth Hostel behind the Premier Inn and car parking available although you have to move it by 10am in the morning as you get to park for 2 hours free, Ive stayed in the youth Hostel a few times but last visit (in Summer) there were not serving any food so a little disapppointed as everywhere else was closed or booked. The Premier Inn was cheaper to stay as well with free breakfast so no wonder it was full booked when you were there.
The building on hide hill was called ceasars it was a nightclub then a bingo Hall. The beatles also stayed in the Kings Arms Hotel. I'm glad we have big named shops, it may be nice to have smaller ones for visitors but with a city being an hour away either north or south it would be too inconvenient, we still need shops that aren't all artesian or hand made places, we like home bargains too 🤣 They do boat trips on the river now, from the quayside but only during summer.
I've always completely struggled to find anything interesting about berwick stopped off lots of times but never found anything yet except a nice bridge and garden centre.
It is not the same town as in seventies and eighties . The A1 used to run through center of town and market days it was heaving . People used to come in from surrounding villages for shopping . There use to be sooooooo many pubs . When two major factories closed many had to go out of Berwick for work . It really is a shame , I will love her forever though ❤️
Grew up In Berwick , had many a good night in Caesar’s . JRs was upstairs . In the seventies it was called Tiffany’s . Are you related to Neil pattinson ? We were in same year at school 😄
I heard somewhere that the Loovre was once a loo for women. Maybe I heard it on another RUclipsr's walking video, or maybe I read it somewhere. That would explain the spelling, I think.
Oh no! I will go back when we aren’t in a global pandemic and when it’s not January and the middle of a freezing winter and film it then and see if it does better 🤣

Brilliant, brought back many memories. Thank you so much.
Ooh the Loovre used to be an ice cream parlour! Didn’t know it had changed.

Lovely little town. Good video.
Thank you ❤️❤️
Nostalgic. I was commanding officer here, Salvation Army, back in the late 70's.
Were the Premier Inn is was the Playhouse I use to go there regularly to watch all the latest films, good old days I live near Norwich now
I lived there and worked in the Malting Theatre. Lovely town. Thanx for the video.
Our pleasure!

The building on your left on Hide Hill used to be a cinema and Theatre, then it was a very large night club then bingo hall.
Great place. I was about 10 years old when I last went there (50 now)
Very interesting indeed 👍
Thanks for the visit!

Thanks much for another great walk and visit. Excellent background music and tour. Cheers from the States.
Many thanks! Think this place will be better in summer in the sunshine!

Another great walk with interesting facts about the place thanks and keep on walking 👍👍🚶🏻🚶🏻
Wow the last time I was there "the Loovre" was a little coffee shop!
It's truly fortunate that England has had no big-sized war with strong stone buildings.

Correct, it started out as a Ladies Toilet then was disused for a while. Then it became an ice cream shop and now it's a holiday let.
