damn doing stuff in 3d is so common nowadays that i just assumed it was gonna be done in 3d! this feels very old school, i forgot how much we can do with just some stock footages and good compositing
its crazy how similar results you get with '2D' collages. Without needing everything to build and animate 3d. Your tutorials take several days to to do, even though it looks so smooth like done in one hour. Big big compliments Ryan + team!😍
Like everyone on here that said it, I was expecting you do being this effect in 3D or Unreal engine. It was very nice and refreshing to this was all done in After Effects, with stock footage and VFX plug-ins! Awesome Video guys!!
1:50 literally did DiCaprio's pointing-a-TV reaction from "Once upon a time..." when I saw that distinctive building from my city 😂 (it's the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw, Poland)
Incredible that you recreated this shot ENTIRELY in After Effects! Besides the energy ripples, it looks like every element was created via built-in AE effects or from stock footage of real world elements. Almost no 3D CGI, just amazing!!
Loving the virtual production tutorials. I’m not quite there yet, but I’m hopeful about getting more involved with the tech by the end of this year. Life has been restrictive lately, but I’m looking forward to an exciting future!
Never ceases to amaze me, the amount of applications there are for turbulent displace, and how often I remember to use it because of you guys. I was using it in a client video the other day to make pond water shimmer, and I was singing the whole time. Our office admin thinks I'm crazy, but maybe someday she'll need turbulent displace too.
You guys do a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better job at compositing than the lot at Red Giant. Absolutely amazing that this is all 2d animation. Betchu 3 months from now we're gonna hear how the effects vendor for this particular shot talk about how they had to develop custom tools etc to handle all the city destruction
Filmriot is the only channel I watch for effect tutorials that probably I will never use but still watching it for the algorithm. Full support since 2011.
Great Job!!! I also like the clarity of the instructions you gave. I think I'm going to do this with images of my city and send it out as a text message to scare my family into thinking Armageddon is coming. (yes, they'll fall for it)🤣
That's a tutorial that shows clearly that after effects is sooo much behind (still in 2000) and needs a real-time 3D Engine with simple tools and real geometry and shader support!
I immediately had to show my fiancé a certain Film Riot video of a post credit scene of Doctor Strange in to the Multiverse of Madness. Lol it involved Josh and an extra eye brow
This feels like an old Film Riot episode. Fantastic effect... all in after effects. (of course with some turbulent displacement thrown in) - love it
TURBULENT DISPLACEMENT!!!! is a pretty good tool, not gonna lie.
agreed
Yeah my thoughts exactly
Please never stop the turbulent displacement song. Even when I watch other youtube channels that song plays in my head when it's mentioned.
😂😂😂😂
Absolutely can relate to that! 😂 Love the song, really missed it on the last Davinci Resolve tutorial, where a similar effect was used. 😁
4:20 I'm so happy turbulent displace song is still alive and kicking after all these years
damn doing stuff in 3d is so common nowadays that i just assumed it was gonna be done in 3d! this feels very old school, i forgot how much we can do with just some stock footages and good compositing
They too used photos from istock, it was on endcredits.
I know right?
This was so good! Lots of great compositing tips sprinkled throughout this episode!
Awesome video 😲
indeed

Awesome video and great effect!
ah!, another favorite VFX creator of mine. Peace Ignace!
Wow. Just WOW! I had no idea it's possible in this way in AE. Great job!
i'm working on a project by myself at the moment... and i need a production team that can make magic like this! i'm excited. VFX is amazing
1:50 literally did DiCaprio's pointing-a-TV reaction from "Once upon a time..." when I saw that distinctive building from my city 😂 (it's the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw, Poland)
Wow that's amazing.. never thought we can do so much in after effects.. awesome tutorial Ryan.. I'm a big fan of u and film riot..😌
At this point turbulent displacement is equivalent to rick rolling
I’d love to see a tutorial on The Flash effects from Justice League using your guys’ Electric Pack
I love the main thing, and then I love how they take the time to show how they can adjust the settings to get a whole new look. 13:14
the colorful glitch disintegration effect was super awesome btw, kinda look like from the movie "pixels"
Holyyy heck! FilmRiot is the fricking best!
Incredible that you recreated this shot ENTIRELY in After Effects! Besides the energy ripples, it looks like every element was created via built-in AE effects or from stock footage of real world elements. Almost no 3D CGI, just amazing!!
Had to twerk that turbulent displacement, thanks for this super detailed tutorials! Love from Panamá

The sound design makes the final touch. Perfect.
Noice!
Is the turbulent displacement available by itself? That’s the sickest tool, meme ever!
So happy that you are still using the "turbulent displace" dance! I always have that stuck in my ear when I use it XD
Incredible in depth tutorial! I love what can be accomplished with easily accessible assets.
Such a great video ! Keep those turbulent displacement inserts coming!
Insane effect! Bravo Riot Team!
Thank you for doing this. I thought people wont do these kinda effects.
Brilliant effect. The most clever part is the use of the clock tower footage. I thought it was a CGI asset at first.
0:01 Mondays be like

lmao
Turbulent Displace is inevitable!!!

See this is why I love film riot, they are not only showing how to do something but also how differently we can use the effects in our own projects😍
Like 2 minutes in and you've solved the issues I was having. I didn't realize that box for showing what was going on was there, I didn't
im an fx artist and you just blew my mind a bit. doing this “for real” would take 100x longer and be 100x more work.
dudee .... after watching dr strange i had same idea but didnt execute and now watching this awesome video will help me in my execution .....tysm
Absolutely incredible! Great work
this gives me DMC Devil May Cry vibes
TURBULENT DISPLACEMENT!!! Classic one, big throwback
Filmriot is the only channel I watch for effect tutorials that probably I will never use but still watching it for the algorithm. Full support since 2011.
I'm going to try this. Thanks!

Turbulent displacement strikes again 😂😂😂
hahhahah
The nonchalant intros to showcase the effects get me every time. Subtle but funny. lol.
That was ......Awesome..........
There is always something new to learn from you guys :)
When i saw this i honestly thought it was all in 3d or in a sim. Until i saw this and my mind was like whhhhaaaaattt!
WHAT THE ahhhhh Thank you for this amazing tutorial !!!
Awesome tutorial👍 Thankyou Ryan filmriot for sharing amazing technique.
Oh my I never i knew i could learn so much by just watching this 14mins Video glad i subscribed. More power!

Incredible work!

Explained in great detail! Thank you so much!!
this is fucking dope. all with zero 3D, you should be proud of yourself
This is incredible. Looks really awesome!
Film Riot is so gooood!
This is one of the best channel I've ever found. I just still haven't motivated myself yet to learn the same.
fantastic af
Amazing Stuff - Well done guys!
This is insane 2d vfx
Really interesting episode!! I gotta try the shatter effect it always felt too complicated to me. But now it seems easier than before.
I tend to assume so much is done in 3D in movies now. I have to kick myself to remember how much you can do in AE in a fraction of the time. Thanks!
Man these people make it look easy
You are a fucking beast 🤞🏾 appreciate everything throughout the years I’ve learned from the film riot gang. I gotta try this
Awesome now please make a tutorial for the dance moves of turbulent displace thingy. Thanks. 👍😇
Wow! Awesome! It would be great a tutorial of kaleidoscopic dark dimension
Fxcking nice effect!!!.... I love the Turbulent Displacement

You already know what's coming after hearing turbulent displacement.
That's a tutorial that shows clearly that after effects is sooo much behind (still in 2000) and needs a real-time 3D Engine with simple tools and real geometry and shader support!
