- In this video, I'll share my entire DIY EG4 mini split installation process in order to run ac with solar. You'll see how easy it was to set up. This system cools and heats well. You can set it up even without special tools or experience. I'll walk you through each step, from unboxing to powering on, and highlight the key things you need to know.

Best part about mini splits in Texas is if you have multiple units and one goes out, you arent completely without AC! I absolutely LOVE having mini splits and would never go back to central. These DIY style units make life so easy when installing! I could probably knock one out in an hour or two by myself now that ive put in a few of them. Looks great and i know yall will enjoy it! Id love to see a follow up on hooking up the solar, how many watts, etc and how it performs! If you havent noticed, you definitely have my interest with this setup!
I agree 100% on having multiple units. That’s one reason I used to advocate for window units. I’ll do a solar panel hookup video soon.
Very cool! I buy and restored historic houses and I have been doing all my own HVAC, Electrical and plumbing for years. I have an old 1870’s church I want to completely power with solar electricity and this video was very inspiring.
I love the video. I installed a Mr. Cool 4 head unit in my house about 4 years ago and it failed this year because I did not put some sort of thread lock on the line connections and over time they vibrated to the point that all my Freon leaked out... I would Love for you to make a video that shared this information. It pains me to say that I paid an HVAC guy to come out and fix my units. Over all he said I did a great job except for the locktight on the threads.
That's good info to know. I wish I hadn't skipped that step. I had the thread lock on hand but when filming, it's easy to get distracted and not do it the way you want. I wonder if I can disconnect it without loosing all the gas and apply it?
not tthe best installation i have seen but still a great Do it your self video
Thanks! We all start somewhere. :)
With an open wall, I'm hoping I can run the line set down the inside of the wall and come out low on the outside of the building to connect to the condenser. It's a standard 4" thick wall, so I hope that's enough to bend the tubing down from the head unit and out the wall toward the bottom to the condenser.
Never considered that but it may work if there aren’t too many bends
@@EastTexasHomestead I'm going to give it a try with a piece of drywall big enough for the head unit and then I'll finish with insulation and drywall everywhere else. I may drop another comment with how it goes. Cheers
Please do! I’d love to hear how it goes
@@paul.phillips Jon at Farmcraft 101 ran his line similar to what you are asking with a Mr Cool: ruclips.net/video/enDmWk5QKF8/видео.htmlsi=YoSuj_W8xGQnbejd
Can that unit work both AC/DC?
It can!
It will use as much DC as is available and supplement with AC as needed. You can also tell it to limit the ac and just run with the available DC.
Do you have a video installation for the solar panels wire? For the 7 panels from signature solar?
Not yet but plan to get one out soon
@@EastTexasHomestead do you know if the connection is on series or parallel?
@@bmodllc In almost every case, it will be series for this unit.
Series will increase the voltage while keeping the amps the same. Parallel would swap that and give you way more amps than the unit can handle (12, I believe) while not providing enough voltage.
What’s the least amount of solar it runs on?
Good question. It (the big 24K unit i have) uses between 190W and 2250W. Most of the time it is running around 1000W. So you will need to get enough solar to get it to do what you want. I'd say you want at least 600W. The DC voltage needs to be between 90 and 380 VDC. All this to say, you could get by ok with a couple of good panels but you will likely want more.
"Running AC with solar".. When is that video coming out.. ? You didn't mention the word SOLAR once or plug in any panels.
Great question :) That's one of those videos I mentioned on the livestream last night that has been shot but has not been edited yet. I hope to get it out in the next week or two.
I live in FL and have an 992 sq ft townhouse. Do I need to get two 12k hybrid units or will one 24k unit cool off bot levels of the house.
I thought 🤔 the same thing. I literally just got my 24K solar unit today. Like today today. I will be installing it little by little with our storms we have had in Central Florida these days and this weekend. We have a 883 sq ft house and it is 2/1. It will be installed in our living/ kitchen. It should be awesome for that purpose. We will let you know soon enough. 😅
Get 2 of them.. humidity is a killer there. I have a 9k pioneer at home.. it's super quiet and cheap on power.
@@OFFGRID_Trucker I will probably end up with 4 mini splits in our house. One in the living room and one in each bedroom.
@@onecrazywheel How's the install going? We been having evening showers almost daily over here in Lakeland.
@@bringit3164I got the inside unit installed and the outside condenser up and installed on the bracket and the lineset ran and connected and the electrical almost completed. I'm an electrician by trade and am running an outdoor 125 amp sub panel from my main panel on the other side of the house so I will be connecting the 240v side of the electrical first. I also ordered 16 flat roof brackets from Signature Solar and they have just shipped. I have ordered connectors and cabling for that too. God Willing I'll have the electrical done by the end of this weekend! Thanks for asking. Hope your install is good
I'm up in Seminole County.
