      America needs to talk a good long look in the mirror and realize the people running these companies aren't engineers and designers but financiers and wall street showmen. Its a leadership issue. Ceos take too much money want high margins and quick timelines with understaffed factories and poorly trained employees. SpaceX being the rare exception

    • @MichaelWinter-ss6lx
      @MichaelWinter-ss6lx 6 часов назад +2

      For what, Ray? It's a fixed price contract. Also, SpaceX only seem to build HLS as far as already developed. Starship developement is really their own problem only.

    • @RayCromwell
      @RayCromwell 6 часов назад

      @@MichaelWinter-ss6lx They are way behind schedule, and their predictions on how many refueling flights would be needed, as well as Starship payload-to-orbit are off what they initially predicted.
      My prediction is, they are going to use up all of the money they got for HLS and go begging the NASA for more.
      Point is, SpaceX fanboys love to crap all over NASA and competitors whenever anything goes wrong, but grade SpaceX on a curve when they miss deadlines, need redesigns, etc. Space is hard. Axiom is a commercial company that got a fixed price contract just like spacex, so why the hostility?
      NASA is also the org that has two giant space telescopes in space that have massively expanded human understanding of the university. They've sent probes to every planet, to Pluto, to asteroids and comets, including sample return missions.
      They landed a fscking SKY CRANE on Mars.
      Whining about NASA "bureaucrats" is cheap and easy for RUclipsrs who can barely engineer a backyard tree house.

    I think all this news of cost overruns and time delays should just be rephrased into “VC’s/investors wildly underestimate the costs and time required to actually step into space”. It’s endemic in the industry, starting many decades ago and being a consistent feature. Any initial estimate can and should be 10x in cost and at least 3x in time by default when talking about space.

      VC's, in my opinion, changed their financial risk tolerance due to the federal reserve's interest rate policies. As the interest rates moved up, the risk tolerance on start-ups decreased. It appears to me that there is a technical analysis (which may already be done) that can termporarily address this issue. It's the deorbit timeline for ISS.
      The core functions provided to ISS by Roscosmos appear to be upgraded in Axiom's proposal. Relocation of the JAXA Kibo and ESA Columbus module to Axiom's core may temporarily resolve the discrepancy in the module count. Therefore, I have some questions for the author of this channel.
      1. Does Axiom's docking capability to other modules accept ISS modules?
      2. If so, has NASA permitted Axiom to discuss with JAXA or ESA the move of Kibo or Columbus to the Axiom core?
      3. If the docking capability is not present, perhaps a docking adapter can be added to Axiom's design to permit the movement of Kibo and Columbus to Axiom's core for about 5-10 years?
      4. What is the design lifetime of the Kibo and Columbus modules? Can these modules be moved to Axiom's core given their age?

    That's rather disheartening news. I should really not be surprised to hear that there was something wrong with that company. It's too bad it took them eight years to change the leadership after so long and late in the game. They should have recognized that there was an issue, however I don't think there's much that can be done at this point. NASA will probably have to intervene in some point or some way to try to help them. If they do have to skim modules I think they may have to take more modules from the ISS then they had planned to. Hopefully the ones they get if they do this, will be in good shape and will supplement the foolishness of the attitude of CEO who really didn't understand what was going on.

    Space exploration, exploitation needs a major shift in the way we do things. Constantly throwing money at companies that never deliver on time, or on budget has to stop. Progress is too slow when everyone is trying to extract as much income as possible for little to no results. 50 years ago humans walked on the moon, now we have trouble getting to LEO. Lot's of money got made though... right?

    Best op is to build 2nd hab module last. Service module shouldn't be any smaller, or they'll need a 2nd one to complete the original design. And what are the docking ports; same as on ISS now? ISS could use a 3rd docking port soon. Russian dockports just got upgraded 2022, but its a different size.
