- Day 3 of my New Hampshire Appalachian Trail section hike!
The New Hampshire section of the Appalachian Trail is some of the most rugged and difficult terrain. I decided to tackle the 143 miles of the AT in New Hampshire because I was ready to challenge myself and after thru-hiking over a year ago, I really missed the AT lifestyle!
Day 3 started bright and early after getting dropped off at the trailhead thanks to the Barn Door Hostel. There were a few miles of hiking before I started the ascent of my 1st 4,000-footer of New Hampshire, Mt. Moosilauke! It was a Saturday and the weather was absolutely perfect, so that meant busy trails! I loved sitting on the summit and enjoying my lunch in the sun. At the summit, I got word that The Notch Hostel ended their summer shuttle services, something that I was hoping to use in order to resupply for the next 3-4 days. The Notch gave me a couple different shuttle options. The first shuttle fell through, but The Shuttle Connection saved the day! I descended what some hikers call the “most difficult descent of the Appalachian Trail” down the Beaver Brook Trail and got shuttled into Lincoln, NH. I was done hiking pretty early in the afternoon, so I had plenty of time to do my hiking chores in town. There, I was able to hit the gear shop and replace some gear I’ve lost, resupply at Price Chopper, and have some town food! I ended the day by setting up my tent in The Notch’s backyard and spent the night meeting some new friends and fellow hikers and listening to bagpipes! (The annual Highland Games Festival was happening in town that weekend)

This is great, Taylor! I used to wake up every morning and look for your video from the AT. It is nice to follow along again for this shorter hike. I’m glad things worked out with the ride
Lincoln is awesome to get supplies. Indian head resort has killer breakfast 🥞
I love the "Fragile alpine vegetation" sign is lag bolted to a pine tree!
Hey Taylor, I live near the Barn Door. If they have your pants, I'm happy to pick them up and drop them off at your store.
2:57 Purplestem Asters, Asters are the real sign of fall. Than ks for posting pictures of the plants.
Thank you! I’ve noticed these all over my yard & wondered what they were..
So happy to be on the trail again with you! Safe travels!
Love this NH series, and I'm sure I'll be watching it again when I go through in 2023. Thank you so much for making these videos!
Love seeing you on the trail again! You tell it how it is and don’t sugar coat things. You go girl!
You are keeping it real. Thanks
Awesome vid Taylor!😊❤⛰⛺️
Thanks for sharing this trip.
Great video showing how to overcome issues. Thank you for sharing.
Nice to see you at the fair, great videos as usual....Sharon and Steve
Loved my stay at the Notch…one of the best hostels on the AT. Serena rocks. A perfect place to nurse my wounds after falling on the descent from Moosilauke, and plan my hike through the Presidentials. Great memories of just a few months ago!
You show good problem-solving skills. Thanks for sharing your hike in your beautiful state.
I truly believe that things have a way of working out. Weather was beautiful as well. Happy trails. 🤘🏻🥾⛰️
Hi Taylor! Love following along with you from Ohio!
My name is Daniel. I was Evans nurse for 16 years. He and I loved watching you on trail. Our favorite was watching you summit Katahdin. Last week I climbed Mt Katahdin and made a video. I mentioned you on trail when I was about to touch the iconic sign. I hope that was okay 👍
Wow you got amazing weather on Mt. Moosilauke! Jealous for sure! Hope you are enjoying it out there. Can't wait to get out there my self!
Survivor Buff going strong 😊
These are awesome! Thank you for sharing. The videos are making me what to try this section!
👍, loved it. Have fun.
What a beautiful day!
Hey! Great video, and so cool you got to summit Moosilauke in better weather. 😊
Quick tip on pronouncing it though, it’s Moose-il-auk (where auk is pronounced like lock).
It's nice to follow you through another long hike. The nights must be getting a bit chilly.
You got such a perfect day for Moosilauke! That descent of Beaver Brook is a "butt kickah" for sure. Still amazed that you and Cody descended it in the rain last year! (For what it's worth, I think it should totally count double for the Terrifying 25 when you survive it on a day like that... 😁) Glad you got to tackle it in much more forgiving conditions this time around.
Back in 1985 my farther and I climbed the Beaver Brook Trail in April in the pouring rain. We just started our pursuit of the 4000 footer club. We where so ill prepared for the weather, came to the Piont we just couldn't stop. We made it but we learned a hard lesson that day. Love to hike it again soon looks like a beutiful summit. I wouldn't know.
Gooood morning from central Florida! Hope everyone has a great day!
Hope your floors are dry bud!
Perfect timing for me since I just got back from Moosilauke. Unfortunately for me the weather was like yours last year, with the summit socked in and the wind roaring. I’ll have to give it another shot to get those views.
Yay!! Go Taylor Go!
Just my .02 and I'm sure all this info is already available but I think a cool video would be a comprehensive guide for all hikers of what there are for shelters, huts, hostels etc. along the AT corridor. To include what each site offers, fees, tips for staying at each one, what each facility offers etc. Wouldn't even need to be put together on a hike like you're doing now. Day hike to each one, film the site and what it has to offer then put it all together as a guide for hikers.
agree, even tho I will never be able to actually HIKE any of this trail, seeing the hostels, and camp sites, etc is always super interesting to me, so this would be an amazing video that I could really appreciate..
To be clear, I just mean the NH section.
I believe most thru hikers are using the far out (guthook) app for this info already. Not sure if she'd want to re-do what is already out there in detail.
The Scots are my people
If it's a beautiful day on Mt. Moosilauke, there will be crowds at the summit!
The reliance on communication dumbfounds me. All my hiking adventures started in the 80’s. There were no cell phones. Lots of road hiking and hitch hiking if someone was willing to pick up a smelly hiker. Our packs were big and heavy. The idea that you could quickly run into town for a resupply didn’t exist. Probably why I’m still always over packed. Even on a day hike I’m prepared to spend a night.
Correct. A lot has changed since the 80's..
I grew up in the 80's too. I always have an emergency shelter kit and ground pad even on day hikes.
"Lost My Shirt" is a well known cliche but I like your new cliche too "Lost My Pants" ... ha ha ha
Snickers…the #1 hiker food!!
No need to apologize for your choice of food. That actually looks pretty yummy!
Two questions: 1) How much did your 4-day supply shown above weigh? I've heard the rule of thumb is 1 lb per day. Do you agree? 2) Do you ever take an energy gel (like GU) for when you have an especially steep climb ahead?
Great video no judgement I love junk food
Candy and lazagna for 4 days? You're definitely being judged but you still got a thumbs up. Glad smelly Bigfoot let you pass.
Morning Free Heel! Have a good one!
@@gonetroutfishing, Thanks old friend. Be kind...rewind.
@@freeheel748 that's a blockbuster of an idea!
@@gonetroutfishing, I visited the last and only blockbuster in Bend Oregon last summer. My stupid friend made me. Luckily that was not the highlight of the trip lol.
@@freeheel748 what a movie! Hey, maybe some of Taylor’s videos can be sweeded.🤔
Protein2o is great for individual protein powder packs
Love your videos! Gear question- what watch are you using and would you recommend it? I am looking at a lot of options and respect your opinion :)
awww snap! did ya eat at Elvios? lol (i worked for THE Elvio, back in the day - delivery driver for the NoCo location from mid 90's thru mid 2000's)
👋🏻
Eddy!
Huh? They installed stairs? That's BOGUS MAN.
That's half the fun.
Huh?
@@TaylortheNahamshaHiker I was just noticing all the "stairs" (wood blocks across the path) that you were hiking over. That's bogus man. The New Hampshire Whites should be all rocks and other shin-destroyers.
Did you get your pants back?
I did today!
I may be wrong, but I have never heard locals pronounce the "e" at the end of Moosilauke.
We say it both ways but I believe the correct way is with a long E on the end. That being said I still say it without the long E
My NH buddy doesn't use the "e."
@@freeheel748 I am from and currently live in NH and everyone I know pronounces the "e". But, honestly, I don't think it matters. It's just the Moose.
No love for hikers welcome? Lol
