UNPOPULAR OPINION: I think Roger's most underrated achievement at Wimbledon was when he reached the quarter finals in his very last appearance in 2021. He was 39 years old then and ravaged by a serious knee injury, having had two surgeries on the knee, and had only played 4 tournaments in 2020-2021 combined going into Wimbledon. To then make the quarter finals was an amazing accomplishment.

    • @hymansahak181

Also 4th round at the French the month before. He won 7 matches total between the French and Wimbledon in 2021. I’m not even sure there are 5 players that won 7 or more matches between the French and Wimbledon that year. If his knees healed, he would have still been a contender at Wimbledon for the next 3 years. There will never be another Federer.

My sister and I were somehow lucky enough to be selected to be in the fan portion of this tribute at 1:26, red shirt/blue hat, white hat. We had flown from Newfoundland with booked centre court tickets in 2018 but they bumped Fed to CT1 for 1/4 final day (bumped defending 8-time Champion off centre??!?! we let Wimby know we were not happy). We swapped with CDN fans so we could watch Roger on CT1(he lost in 5th to an on form KAnderson) and then went to Ctr to catch Nadal/Del Potro. Somehow we are prominent in the 'Welcome to Geneva' Laver Cup video in 2019 too. How fortunate to be linked to Rog in this small way! 😁

Wimbledon-Federer is the most beautiful and tragic love story in the history of tennis so far... most of it is triumph and delight but great despair and sorrow weren't spared every now and then.
Despite the fact that Djokovic can still overtake Roger in Wimbledon titles tally, the Swiss will be for a long time, if not forever, the player who best represents the legendary aura of The Championship ❤

  • @abs3704

Players like Federer and Tendulkar will always stay a class apart from every other player, no matter how many grand slams or centuries any player goes on to win/score. Because the greatness of a player is not measured by centuries or grand slams. It's measured by class. Of which, the 2 of them had like no one else.

No matter who breaks his records I can never associate the word "Champion" with anyone else. It was not earned because of his wins on court but by things which he's done on and off court which can't be expressed in words. Only people who watched him play can really understand. It's an emotion like no other.

Will never forget that Wimbledon semi-final in 03. If my memory serves me correct, it was Rodrick who was probably expected to break through that year in what was a very open semi-final draw and a guaranteed first time slam winner. So to watch Federer win in straight sets with a brand of tennis I’d never seen before-I took notice. Then a couple of days later when he won the Championship combined with that emotional speech-I was hooked. It feels very poignant - I was 17 when he first win Wimbledon and now I’m 36! I definitely feel like a chapter of my life has ended.

The Greatest Gift of Tennis to Humanity .
    A Champion of Champions .
The only player whose play can never ever be quantified in numbers .
The joy of seeing a tennis ball hit was never felt more deeply than when Federer hit it .
There were champions before him . There will be champions after .
But the way he played it i think nobody could ever fathom that tennis can be played like that ever . That kind of movement that kind of ball striking was inconceivable considering such a physically demanding sport .
One cant help but feel that if God ever decided to play tennis this is the way it would be played .
Absolutely magical . Otherwordly stuff .

He lost 3 Wimbledon finals to djoko out of all losses Wimbledon 2019 is worst one he failed to win it when he was superior to Djokovic in 2019.
Djokovic showed how it feels to lose in Tie breaks which he did it to Andy Roddick in Wimbledon 2009 finals who played better than Federer also.

I was 13 when I witnessed him play the 2008 Wimbledon final for the first time. At the time I was invested in cricket, but when I saw the shot making and grace of Federer I got hooked on tennis and wanted to play the game like he did. I watched his previous matches from 2001 - 2007 and it gave me goosebumps how good this guy was. A chapter of my life is ending, but the memories will stay with me forever and no one will ever make me love tennis than the way Federer did...on and off the court. Me not, I didn't watch any entire men's match between his penultimate match in july 2021 and his last match yesterday evening.
But hopefully, he'll play soon a few more Matches for Africa for his foundation, and the Real Madrid is organizing a match between him and Nadal in front of a record 80 000 people; the actual record for a tennis match is already between them 2, the Match for Africa 6, in the stadium of Cape Town, South Africa, last year, in front of 52 000 people.
Bill Gates played the double there with Federer as he usually do, before the single.
