Great video! I used to be an all season only guy until I decided to try winters on the wife's car for extra safety. I've never looked back! Can't believe I ran all those winters before struggling with all season's. Have a set now on a RWD IS350 and people think I'm nuts for driving it in the snow, but it's planted and sure footed with the winter tire's.
There's a video some tire company put out of a Subaru on all-seasons spinning all four tires in the snow while a rear-wheel-drive BMW 3-series on snow tires walks right past it. If you live someplace that regularly gets snow, you need winter tires. Where I live, winters are mild but we do get a few snowstorms each year. Driving becomes quite entertaining. You would think that people who live here long enough would know how to drive in the snow but that's not the case. You would think they all just moved here from Florida. There are two kinds of drivers: 10MPH, wipers going warp speed, hazards on, high beams on even if it's the middle of the day, white knuckled on the steering wheel. "I have traction bro!" Large 4x4 vehicle, uncleared snow billowing off the back, driving fast with no regard for steering or stopping distance because they have traction for acceleration, no lights OR all lights including the 50" LED bar above the windshield blinding everyone and making crazy glare. I love the people who drive with their wipers on the highest setting when I have mine on the first intermittent click or even off because it's a light mist. Are they that scared of a single drop of water on their windshield? What are they going to do when it really starts coming down, set the wipers to plaid? Or are they anticipating that and preemptively set their wipers to warp speed so they're covered for any amount of precipitation and don't have to touch it again?
Yeah here in Chicago winter tires are a must for me. Even with my 1998 Subaru Forester S Awd, yes with a stick. I put the Bridgestone Blizzaks on 16 steelies so my swapped Subaru legacy wheels won't get ruined. Great video BTW, love the content!👌💯👍🏾
@@MemoriesDestroyUs from personal experience, winter tires on ice still offer a great advantage over all season tire on ice. You still slip. But only half as much.
Oh this is exactly what I was looking for. I am getting mine in July and I live in a place that gets a lot of snow. Having AWD in a car is a must here. I was iffy about having 18' wheels, and was also thinking of bringing it down to 16' for the winter. Seeing someone else doing it and working is exciting. Makes changing your tires so much easier to do, when you have an extra set of rims. I also like the look of steelies in the winter. I do get the blacked out alloys with my Turbo, but can't be at it with the and pot holes galore.
Similar set up. Continental Control Contact Sport SRS and these Bridgestone Blizzak but size 224 40 18. I would suggest steel rims and smaller size wheels like in the video. I didn’t like the Continental after my third year. They are really loud.
I bought a set of 205/65/15 blizzaks for my 1990 bmw 535i which has a limited slip and with how I drive it saved my ass a few times when I took a corner too fast
You wanna see squirly? Watch the caprice in the snow with my bald all seasons lol. But I think like you said driving style really does play a part. Like for my car I can drive like a grandma and I'll get stuck.. a lead foot tho? Never gotten stuck since lol
Love your content man! Can I put in a request for a review on the brand new trim for the 2022 Mazda CX-9, Touring Plus? Thinking about it buying one here in the next few months.
I live in Québec - Canada, not having snow tires in the winter isn't only illegal, but you wouldn't even be able to move out of your driveway in the winter lol
Wish I saw this a week ago. I drive the same model Mazda3 as you do, and wasn't satisfied with the stock Toyos winter performance. I upgraded to Continental DWS06+s, which are definitely an improvement, but I do wonder how much better a full winter set would have been.
I feel bad. I just ordered my winter tires and wheels for my . It's a Premium AWD Hatch in the US I believe, in Canada we call it Mazda3 Sport GT AWD. I totally could have saved about $500 if I had gone with black steelies. Instead I picked out the 16in M011 original Mazda wheel in gloss black. hoping I don't regret it after it's installed later today.
I run Nokian Hakkapellita R3s in the same size as you (205/60/16) on my 2018 3 Grand Touring 6spd hatch. It’s an absolute UNIT in the snow and ice, lol.
Question, i know you've gone 85,000+ miles with this thing, and ive seen multiple clips of you drifting around in the snow, ive heard the differential doesn't take a beating well and can fail when you do that so i was wondering how often you do it for it to hold up that well?
Should we go for 16 inch tires or we can replace on original alloys ? I am so confused with getting new winter tires with steeles or just changing the tire. Right now I have 215/45/R18.
If you plan on keeping the vehicle for more than 3 years - it is worth it to get another set of rims. To un-mount, mount, and re-balance tires twice per year is very costly vs. swapping rims. Even if you are paying a garage to do the switch over, in the long run it is a smarter financial decision:)
Did going to a smaller rim size make your spedometer and/or fuel economy a little bit off? Going to get snow tires in the future and am curious, as my cx5 came with '19s, and I would go down like you did
No. When I went down in rim size, I went up in sidewall size so the overall diameter of the wheel is the same. There are websites you can use too figure out how to make that work, and that's what I did!
In my experience, no. It is either radar cruise control or no cruise control. I believe most cars are like this for safety, or at least a lot that I have reviewed. So you don’t put it in normal cruise and think you’re in radar cruise and rear end someone. But that’s just my theory.
@Shooting Cars I see, thanks! From what I've seen the cx5 has an option to switch to regular CC by holding the mode button on the steering wheel. I've just heard of to many people complain that the radar CC will shut off randomly
This video is insane. I live in Florida and not once have I felt the need to have winter tires, yet here you are telling everyone how great they are to have. Unacceptable.

Winter tires are amazing. The only thing that actually helps you stop in the snow and ice!
take it from a winnipeger, rubber on ice is still rubber on ice. winter tires will only help with some powder under them

I had 2 feet of snow in a alley behind my house. Everyone getting stuck my mazda 3 awd with no snow tires didn't even flinch
great video. will likely get rims as well on my 2023 mazda3 hatch versus going between the stock rims for the benefits you mentioned

If I can get my hands on one, yes!
Tires make the difference. Btw I love your video’s.
Thanks for another great video.

I use blizzak in the winter as well but I just mount them on the same wheels. Is it better to get the steel wheels just for winter?
just got the same tires for my ‘20 Sportage turbo. 19” blizzaks cost me $1100. Guess it’s worth it in Pittsburgh hilly weather
Waiting on your next Mazda 3 longterm review.

You probably won't, steel rims are incredibly heavy.
Is the offset +41? Was this for it not to interfere with the calipers up in front?
would a set of 205/50/17 size tires work good?

The Wawa jacket is assume
honestly i would keep steeles on at all times lol or maybe the rotiform stls if they are lighter than regualr steeles

BTW what is tomorrows review again?
Audi A5 Coupe
@@ShootingCars Yeah thought so! Very excited to see it!
People who think snow tyres are irrelevant because you have 4x4 should be sent to a special island for a special holiday.
Can you turn off radar cruise on this car and use normal, old school cruise control? Or are you stuck with relying on the sensors to work

lmao
Just fyi this set-up is a little over $1400, damn inflation.
Too bad people spend $70k for a SUV but do not purchase snow tires
