SECRET HIKE IN LOS ANGELES | Brand Library Trail (Glendale)

  • Okay so I admittedly wanted to hit this hike for the super cute sign I saw photos of, but I ended up loving it for several reasons. It truly feels like a secret spot / hidden oasis. I went early morning on a weekday and only saw 5 other people on the trail the entire time. It was a hazy day when we went but if it's clear you can get a fabulous view of Downtown LA and so many other pockets of the city. It looks like there are several trail options but we did the shortest one which I believe is called the Lateral Loop (www.alltrails....) and it was super steep but only two miles long and very quick. We started behind the green cross statue behind the library and hit the photo-op / sign area first before heading up to the top and completing the rest of the loop. Definitely recommend this for a fun adventure in LA - nice to get away from the crazy Runyon / Griffith crowds. My dog Copley was in heaven! Dogs are supposed to be kept on leash but because we barely crossed paths with anyone and didn't see another dog on the trail I let him off a few times as you see in the video. Hope you get a chance to check this one out for yourself! It's a great little escape :) Happy adventures, y'all!

Nice hike and an off the grid, less traveled one for Covid relief. Looked like Copley was setting the pace!

I currently hike this trail every friday noon to 3pm, and she's right, its very steep, so some pointers: make super sure your shoes have a good grip on them, as you go up, if you slip and fall, get ready for some real rock and roll, all the way down! It gets hot right around this time of year, so get the hats out and bring enough water. Ive seen snakes out more and more, and they are harmless, until get too close or step on them, they will remind you to watch where you are stepping. About Dogs, she is being rather careless with her pets life, you let that dog loose off the leash and once it gets curious about the snake and tries to sniff it, and gets bitten, thats a dead dog, many get killed every year from confronting rattle snakes, so keep the dog on a leash or be ready to see it slowly die in front of you.

Please be careful hiking on that trail. During the warmer months, there are rattle snakes around there in the brush. My relatives knew the Brand family. He flew airplanes from an airfield on the property.

How long did it take you and your doggie to the top? I’m a bit slow. :(

The trail we took was very, VERY steep. We powered through (the pup is small but he is fast lol). I believe it took about 40 minutes to get up and maybe 25-30 to get down? Maybe a bit longer on each end. Enjoy if you go :) It's beautiful!

I used to hike up there in the 80’s & 90’s. Supposedly there was a pet cemetery up there. Never knew if that was true or not… 😂

The Brand family cemetery is there. But not on this same trail.
