IDW Eggman goes hard in general. I think it helps that in the comics , he can be matched up with characters outside the main cast. Because outside of those A-listers, he sweaps.

What's funny, is that this is technically canon! In the IDW comics, eggman actually has some sort of GLOCK from the future, and he likes to SPAM, THE HELL, OUT OF IT.

Speaking of guns In the finale for IDW, Eggman does attempt to take a hostage, threatening with a gun the same as he did in Adventure 2. Eventually the gun is knocked out of the doctors hand to the floor. Sonics sees it on the ground along with Amy and remembering how threatening he was in Adventure 2 comments “you’ve taken this too far Eggman!”
IDW has done well to show how out of everyone else's league both Sonic and Eggman have gotten. They are the only ones able to match the other. At least for now.
