  • The typical old ice house on the Keir Estate near Dunblane in Stirling District was uniquely modified after abandonment with a tall brick chimney added to serve as a flue to convert the building into a kiln of some sort. At this stage a wooden building was added onto the entrance end of the building. It is conjectured that the new used was to make pottery or less likely to produce slake lime for use in mortar, limewash and improving soil fertility.

Hello Mick, Your not far off with your age profile comment :-) Type in Springside and Roger Griffith and you will find two of my Springside parish videos. I will see what else I can do. Seagate Castle is hardly ever open to the public. I gave a guided tour there a few years back - organised by Kilwinning Heritage. I will let you know if another open day happens. Glad you like my work - it's very much appreciated.

@rogergriffith286 ah I'm gutted I missed that 😢. Yes please let me know. I took my daughter down yesterday a wee walk and sadly couldn't get in to any of it at all. Someone said that it's unsafe to the public, I would love to see inside. Do you have any videos of that?
      Thanks for the reply pal.

@@micknellis9549 Sorry, no videos. Canmore - the Historic Env Scot - website has quite a few photographs, mostly B&W. It gives some descriptions as well. I noticed the amazing carvings on the finials at the old gatehouse entrance. Check RUclips for any intrepid adventurous types who may have got in :-)

Yes - at least it is being cared for. The old home farm has the most extravagant embellishments I have ever seen on a farm complex!

@@rogergriffith286 its 20 years since I called in - i gathered - imputed - that Arabian cash had bought the house, mansion at least 40 years ago…I assume, you refer to the follies and whatever structures rather than estate which looked uber groomed when I called in

@@naradaian I must return and look around in more detail. The Canmore site lists an unusually large number of features such as sundials, etc.

I see that David Bryce was the architect for the home farm. He was worth around thirty million when he died. Built a few hundred country houses, etc.
