  • Originally the 13th century south transept of the church at Straiton, this aisle became the chantry chapel of the Kennedys, Lairds of Blaiquhan. From the reformation it was divided off from the church, but later it became part of the church again with an outside stone staircase, a laird's loft and a retiring room for use between services. In 1901 it was restored to its original condition and the priest's door, stoup, credence table, piscina and aumbrey survive. An impressive and decorative tomb with two recumbent figures lies below the Gothic window. The figures appear to have once been vertically positioned in another memorial. The Covenanter martyr Thomas McHaffie has two memorials in the churchyard.

Have you visited Kirkmichael Parish Church? I think its four entrances were interesting.
