  • In this video Pete answers a question that was posed during a recent class on how to create a helical groove cut on the surface of a cylinder. There are a couple of interesting tricks to the process, so hopefully you find this useful.

Hi, how do you get the face of the slot and helix to be flat (to follow the geometry of the tool used to cut it, ie end mill)

First of all, thank you very much. But this is very confusing. Do you have any idea how i can sweep on a Cylindrical surface a bit easier. I want to rebuild something like this electrical Toe nail bits.

@selimguclu625, good day and sorry for the delayed response. Can you send along a link or a specific manufacturer and product name, so I can see what type of drill bit you're referencing? More specific solutions can probably be presented then.
However, if you look at using the COIL tool, that may be an easy method for trying to add a sweep to a cylindrical surface. Please give that a try and report back how it goes. We may be able to knock out a video on this topic. Hope this helps and have a most blessed day!
