The 80s were the best. Maybe that's why so many of my movies are being remade, badly. Because, once you reach iconic status, it CAN'T be remade. Watch the behind the scenes video about making this, people were starving to death in Africa. We were more united as a country and as people back then, we didn't have our faces glued to phones.

I was a teen when this was released, I can tell you my young friend, it was a different world, it wasn't Utopia every nation had it issues, but we cared about each other, didnt matter if you were American Canadian African, Afghani , none of it mattered, if you needed help we all united, yes there was a time when the USA and the world set its racial differences aside its beliefs all of the crap aside and united to help each other and any other nation when shit hit the fan... it wasn't perfect but we were trying our best to understand each other... When you get the chance you should definitely check out a song called "Mother, Father" by Journey, their live performance from a 1981 concert in Houston. I was a teen when this was released, I can tell you my young friend, it was a different world, it wasn't Utopia every nation had it issues, but we cared about each other, didnt matter if you were American Canadian African, Afghani , none of it mattered, if you needed help we all united, yes there was a time when the USA and the world set its racial differences aside its beliefs all of the crap aside and united to help each other and any other nation when shit hit the fan... it wasn't perfect but we were trying our best to understand each other... I wish your generation could have had that experience ..
The world is pretty much the same during this was the height of the cold war, the Berlin Wall was still up, Apartheid was a thing...etc. I love music from the eighties but let not ignore what was and what is.

I was cheering right along with you man. This song came out when I was a kid. This was when music videos started becoming a thing. I always thought it was one of the most beautiful songs, and there was beautiful meaning behind it. It still makes me teary-eyed. So many people just wanted to help other people at that time. I agree with your assessment of this song, too; we need more positive messages like that again. There can never be too many. Some of the singers in here I would love to see you react to, since you mentioned Joel, are Steve Perry, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins and Daryl Hall. When you get the chance you should definitely check out a song called "Mother, Father" by Journey, their live performance from a 1981 concert in Houston. I've heard Journey do that song since, but IMO, there was never a better vocal performance on it than that one by Steve Perry.

And you know what's amazing? In the 80s, you could hear ALL those artists (plus British bands and metal bands) played on pop Top 40 radio stations....The variety in popular music is what made the 80s the greatest in my opinion...
