Not to get biblical or force my beliefs but just wanted to give you guys some advice in these trying times. The devil in the Bible is not as powerful as we believe because God gave the ability to stand up to him just like Will did. Satan is nothing more than an ageless child with powers that only works if we allow him to. If we let him in. In reality the devil walks away when he knows you’re winning. ☺️
The moment Bill sat down, Will won. By going first then directing Jones to go second, the game was in the Turners favour. Will had got the keys location, Bill saved his son. Jones' overconfidence lost him the game, despite the fact he won. They really did beat the devil twice.
I love when Jones taps his pipe against his crab hand, it almost sounds like he's giving Will a round of applause. He probably meant what he said, and he really was impressed with Will that he managed to beat him
Agreed, I would say Will not only won the match, but also won Davy Jones’ respect, putting himself on the line for his father and being able to outwit Jones
Yeah and if we understand the rules of the game right, then the fact he was able to conceal his other numbers long enough to make that all or nothing guess is what impressed Davy Jones, because if we assume you can only match a Number with a higher value (example 3 4s can only be matched by 3 5s/6s otherwise you have to raise the number to 4 or higher of the dice) that means he was guessing entirely based on info Davy was giving, since Davy's bet was always on the 3s it meant Davy had a lot of 3s to use and was confident he could push Will into a guess he cannot get right, being able to keep 4 6s under your own cup hidden until then to make a 5 6s bet when you are sure there is 4 3s under Davy's cup means you are hoping for a 6 under his cup but if it's there he cannot raise the bet without losing so he has to take the risk and call you on it.

@@GC-yw1mn it isnt about what he had to gain, its about what he had to lose. His son to the flying dutchman, where he has been tortured for years. He wasnt willing to take that risk, so he joined. Twice the odds will gets the key, twice the odds will isnt stuck forever
@@GC-yw1mn That was the bit I loved most. Will wasn't playing to win he was looking for the key. Yet his father was playing to lose for the sake of wills freedom. the Dutchman himself was playing only to win which was his folly. So him in his arrogance showing the key to will was the first mistake and his unbelieving in the love a father could have for his son was what spelled his doom. Had will lost he would have been locked away and became part of the ship like his father was not allowed to freely take the key like he was able to do. I loved this scene as it showed three completely different ideals going into a game all of them getting exactly what they wanted (at the time) yet it only spells victory for will/his father while the Dutchman who won the game actually loses which is such narrative genius. I just cant look at this scene without such admiration as its really good. (likely my bias though)
@@tommysalami420 He had to show his wager - it's part of the rules. Don't have it; can't wager it. Bill also bluffed with his first move and preyed on Jones' arrogance - the turn order goes clockwise, but he managed to get it to go counter. Only Bill could call Will a liar, and he never would.
@@twistedlight9750 OMG, I didn't notice! You're right, it is supposed to go clockwise. Of course, I guess Bill could've just sat down on the other side of Will instead. Took a pretty big risk there. If Jones had insisted on clockwise, Bill joining the game would have been for naught.
Amazing little detail at 1:53. Jones snorts a bit when he laughs, which in humans is usually accomplished by inhaling simultaneously through the mouth and nose and vibrating your soft palate like a reed. But...Jones doesn't have a nose. Instead, he uses the siphon on the left side of his face (which has already been established previously as being his "nose"), and it reacts by being sucked in slightly. For a movie that came out in 2006, the effects are on another level of fidelity.
Verbinski did alot of CGI in his days in addition to directing, he probably hired an amazing staff and during the behind the scenes you can see him calling them out on minor details so you can tell he was working then for all their worth lol. They essentially did the most realistic human-made CGI work I've ever seen in a movie, my uncle was convinced it was animatronics when he watched it.
The fact Jones isn't real bummed he lost the first time is cause it's clearly not the first time he lost, but I bet he rarely loses cause he's clearly hard to read, and when he said you can't best the devil twice implies those that have beat him don't dare to challenge him again
He's pretty clearly upset that he lost, but the fact that he even "clapped" [by hitting the pipe against his claw] and even congratulating Will, it shows that he still respects the rules of the game.
I would argue Will is the first person to wager for someone else’s freedom on the ship. Jones tends to collect to most selfish, fearful and devious souls for his ship. If someone did get the courage to gamble against Davey they would have no need to do it again, they would likely be free. Occasions like these may only happen once in a thousand years on this ship if ever.

Honestly, one of the greatest complete movie scenes that didn't make it to screen. This scene really reveals the characters (being Will Turner, Bootstrap BIll & Davy Jones) and shows their motives. This scene is also symbolism for the entire Pirates series, in that "every man is out for himself."
This extended version finally makes sense at all to me now. With only the second match in the movie, I was always confused about Bill waging his service, when he already was stuck there to begin with. They left out the important part of him just having REGAINED the freedom, which he then wagers to keep Will from harm. >_>
It makes sense in the theatrical version, because the deal Jones offers his crewmembers is one hundred years of service, in exchange they don't die at sea (because Jones "rescues" dying or wrecked seamen.) Bill had been in service for 20 years or so, and still had most of the century left (assuming he didn't have more or less time based on games of dice he may have played in the time he already served aboard the ship.) But, he risked the same bet as Will - an *eternity* aboard the Flying Dutchman, literally years without end until the death of the universe itself. So even though Bill was already in service to Jones, with 80 or so years left to serve, Jones accepting the bet makes sense because he's still getting unending servitude.
I think it also doesn't make sense with the extended cut though. As much as I love it, Will's goal was to use the game of liar's dice to figure out if Jones had the key, and where he kept it. That way he could escape with the key to the chest. As we see later on though, Will basically demands the chest and the heart from Jack because Will's main motive is to save his father from Davy Jones. It doesn't make much sense for Will to challenge Jones again if he already managed to free his father, hence fulfilling his main goal - at least up until that point.
@@hussainqureshi9933 Indeed, he fulfilled his duty in freeing his father. But as the good (and sometimes very naive) friend that he is, he still wanted to fulfill Jack's request as well. He couldn't anticipate that his father would put himself back into the same position Will had just freed him from.

Many people didn't understand about this game Even i need a month to understand this game just by looking So maybe disney thinking that this scene is too boring for regular/nonfans of this movie and then they decide to cut it out
They had to trim somewhere, but I can think of a good place to trim five minutes off of. Cannibal Island has a lot of bloat that could have been trimmed for this scene
Me, when watching the original scene in theaters: "Hmm alright, kind of a plodding scene just to move ourselves one step closer to the macguffin" Me, now, after watching the extended version and several videos about the PotC series: "This is the best scene in the entire franchise"
Mark every notable line and gestures up to Bill Nighy being one of the finest and most talented actors in the industry. Even without being in the costume of Davey Jones be was still able to play the character with perfection. I remember the first time I watched Pirates, i was fully immersed into the film
about 2/3rds of the time I think they made the right decision by cutting out a deleted scene even ones I like, I feel like most of the time for the sake of pacing it helps the story to cut the fat. But this is one of the few times I really wish they kept a scene in. I shows a more interesting side of Davy Jones as a gambler and how he gives props to Will for besting him the first time. It makes Bootstrap joining the second game more impactful after he was just given his freedom, and it really builds the stakes higher with the first game.
Especially since Bill's wager was also his eternal servitude......which makes little sense in the full movie since we don't have the context that Will already won a round and secured Bill's freedom.
It also makes it much easier to follow what's going on with the actual game itself, builds on character development, and only adds a few more minutes of screentime. Cutting the full version of this scene was a massive mistake.
Also there’s apparently a theory that Davy Jones can actually see the board and the dice as well. If that’s the case then Jones is actually a far far more decent person than any of us have given him credit for
That theory is probably based on the movie version, not this deleted scene. This full scene shows that he can't see the dice, but is damn good at reading people. The game is a bit like Poker, which is why after studying Will's face when he checks his dice, only did Jones declare "Welcome to the crew, lad!"
This is one of my favorite games to play for money with my family and friends, and the big part of this game is figuring out the table. It’s not uncommon to find out who has what before the match ends, I don’t think Jones can actually see the dice as much as it is him being clever and finding out what Bootstrap and Will have. You can even infer it yourself, Bootstrap bids on 2s and 3s, even after Will calls four 5s. If he had 5s of his own he simply would’ve played that number too. And Will switches to 5s after Jones calls four 4s. At the very least, you can tell that Will has 5s and Bootstrap has no 5s of his own
The probability of there being at least 12 fives out of 15 dice is about 0.0000001%, literally a 1 in 10 million chance. Bootstrap was making a very blatantly poor bet as a way to force Jones to call him in order to prevent Will from losing. Jones would not even need to really cheat to have known.
@@self2self9 exactly, bootstrap knew he had to take the attention off will after he lost, only way to do that is lie which would piss Davy Jones to the core
To state, bootstrap was free, his service was won off and paid in full on a bet. Of course he'd give anything for his son but he just got back his soul and freedom. He gave his freedom for will and in this case, that was a lot.
It makes sense now why jones says welcome to the crew, he expected bootstrap to keep his newfound freedom, because jones expects every man on his ship to be as callous and cruel as he himself is. Jones couldn’t have called will a liar the second time since it wasn’t his turn and in liars dice only the persons whose turn it is can call the previous person a liar. Without the extended cut I always wondered why jones thought bootstrap would call him a liar with nothing to gain from it, but now it makes sense with the lure of his own freedom at the expense of his sons.
I honestly don't know why they cut this scene out of the movie. After you watch the deleted scene, you then have a much more clear understanding as to why he'd put up his soul like that for the key. It then makes sense to as to why his father just jumps in like that as well, because he freed him by beating Jones in the first game. All in all, not having the deleted scene in the movie kind of creates a bit of a plot hole technically. Also, I think the deleted scene shows the honorable side of Jones that he used to have. Once he calls Will a liar and is then shown that there were indeed 5 sixes on the table. He actually acknowledged Will as the victor and congratulated him.
Now this scene added so much more to both Will and Bill’s character. Will showed in the first game that what’s dearest to his heart is his father’s freedom. And he won his father’s freedom. And not even 2 minutes later Bill showed what’s dearest to his heart is his son’s freedom and threw away his own newly won freedom without a second of hesitation for an eternity of living Hell to spare his son from suffering that fate. This extended scene is essentially the foundation for both characters actions in At World’s End. Shame it was cut.
Bill casting his dices crushed Will's victory. He was going to win against Jones twice in a row but with a third set of dices it changes everything because you don't play in team. However, Will wasn't planning on winning because Jones wasn't about to just hand him the key because of a dice game, but Bill had to do it and doom himself for eternity. But I must say that Bill bidding 12 fives was a beautiful move. Because obviously the bid is totally and they all know it. He also knew Jones was right so he called am extravagant bid so Jones would call him out and save Will in doing so (because he was gonna call Will). Another thing worth saying: Jones was hesitating for the second game and that's something you don't fully understand without the deleted scene. He wouldn't hesitate if it was a first game, knowing that he's probably the best player on the seas. But after losing a game to Will he hesitates to play given the stakes.
Each player can only call out the man before him. Jones thought for sure that Bill would call out Will. Bill quite literally threw himself on the grenade the moment he threw his dice after Bill and before Jones in turn order
There's nothing Bill did that in any way hindered Will. If we were to discount Bill entirely it would have played out the same. Jones would lie turn 1, not revealing his 5s, will would be honest about having some 5's but likely guess jones had at LEAST 1, so it's safe to say he had one less than he claimed, then jones would predict 7 and Will would lose.
@@rumpelstiltskin6150 Will’s problem is that he wasn’t able to lie so good. If he didn’t have it you could see it, however he could make you believe that he had something he didn’t have, so he could be deceitful, but he wasn’t a good liar. If he could one way or another make Jones believe there are 8 5s on the table he would’ve won. Or make him believe he has less 5s than it appears.
@@barathrum3107 problem is, Bill not being there wouldn't have helped. It would have provided even less possibility for there being 8 5s. Making him believe he had less 5's than it seemed wouldn't have helped either. The only things Will could have done to win were not hindered by Bill.
@@barathrum3107 you just contradicted yourself Will couldn't lie but he could make you believe he had something he didn't That's a literal textbook example of lying
I only bet what's nearest to a man's heart. Else, there's no way to tell if he's bluffing. When a man is willing to risk, or not to risk, that's a measure of his soul......
I love Wills confidence. He proved thay he can beat the devil, but he's not trying to do it twice. He just wants to know where the key is. So even when he "loses", it doesn't really mean anything.
This should have stayed in the film, not only does it show how the game is played so we understand the stakes of the second game, but it provides Bootstrap Bill with a little more insight into his character and the guilt he carries.

This extended scene gives me full confidence that Will Turner was the protagonist of the trilogy as opposed to Jack Sparrow. But only this scene provides me with that conifidence.
Small detail you don't realize, Jones used Will's strategy against him the second time around. Will had four 6s the first time and he bet five 6s, hoping one of Jones' dices would be a 6 as well. This time, Jones saw through Will's strategy and knew Will had three 5s when he bet four 5s.

Oh this was cool to see. I’ve liked this game since playing it in red dead redemption. Both games are kinda ridiculous with the odds of the dice they got, but I really like how in the second game Davy Jones pulled the same move Will did in the first. Concealing his hand of 4 dice to bid on another, only to bid later with great confidence the high number of dice. I’m presuming when Bootstrap Bill joined either Jones couldn’t interfere or enjoyed the messed idea that Will had just freed his father only for him to be trapped for eternity, given Bootstrap would have no reason to bid other than to save Will.
The theory is that Jones thinks everyone in his crew is like him [callous, selfish, in it only for themselves], so he expected Bill [who just got his freedom] to call out Will as a liar. Bill turn it around by bidding something that's legitimately near impossible, forcing Jones to call HIM a liar, saving Will while dooming himself.
I just came to this scene after watching someone explaining Liars Dice. I'm surprised i understood the game way before the explanation. It just made sense from context alone for me.
This is what happens when you put in money and effort into a film. CGI is a great tool, and if used properly and with care, and maybe even in conjunction with practical effects it can become absolutely timeless. However, many filmstudios use CGI as a way to save on money, which is a shame since then it usually looks absolutely rancid

For a movie that came out in 2006, the effects are on another level of fidelity.
what a detail, thanks
Verbinski did alot of CGI in his days in addition to directing, he probably hired an amazing staff and during the behind the scenes you can see him calling them out on minor details so you can tell he was working then for all their worth lol. They essentially did the most realistic human-made CGI work I've ever seen in a movie, my uncle was convinced it was animatronics when he watched it.
Woah you've explained what snorting is to me! I get it now, when you take air in both the nose and the mouth, it creates this vibration
The fact Jones isn't real bummed he lost the first time is cause it's clearly not the first time he lost, but I bet he rarely loses cause he's clearly hard to read, and when he said you can't best the devil twice implies those that have beat him don't dare to challenge him again
I agree with your assessment.
He's pretty clearly upset that he lost, but the fact that he even "clapped" [by hitting the pipe against his claw] and even congratulating Will, it shows that he still respects the rules of the game.
@@AzureRoxe I said isn't really bummed I'm sure he was a little sore about it, but nothing to major, win some you lose some, he knows the game
I would argue Will is the first person to wager for someone else’s freedom on the ship. Jones tends to collect to most selfish, fearful and devious souls for his ship. If someone did get the courage to gamble against Davey they would have no need to do it again, they would likely be free.

No kidding!
Except that one of them - Bootstrap Bill - wasn't out for himself: he took the fall for his son in the second round.
@@tomm35 And the first game was to free his Father of servitude to The Flying Dutchman and Davy Jones as well.
@@noxiouskunk7069 That could be skewed as selfish, as he wants to lift the heaviness in his heart caused by his dad losing his mind aboard the ship.
@@aguyontheinternet8436 but is that selfish? More like empathetic. To feel bad for someone else's suffering.
They probably removed it cause it doesn’t go anywhere since bill hets freed, then instantly loses that freedom
@@cr4zyj4ck Still, the bet is even grander and more meaningful, if he just got his chance of leaving. >_>
@@Minecraftgnom Agreed this scene is so fantastic when it's complete
But as the good (and sometimes very naive) friend that he is, he still wanted to fulfill Jack's request as well. about 2/3rds of the time I think they made the right decision by cutting out a deleted scene even ones I like, I feel like most of the time for the sake of pacing it helps the story to cut the fat.
I swear I remember this whole scene in the movie
@@self2self9 Also he purposely calls a number that implies he has five 5s. Adds an extra layer of sauce knowing that he wanted to lose
Funny how Davy keeps the key to his heart close to his chest.. close to where his heart used to be
Love how the organ stops
Me: -walks in- Bro, I stole your chips!
-organ stops-
I really wanna the ost as to whatever he was playing

I love the detail of Jones using his tentacle beard to hold his pipe, even gesturing at Will with it.
Master Turner, feel free to go ashore. The very next we make port.
Shivers. Man, shivers.
I quite enjoy the absence of music in the extended scenes. The raw wetness of the sea and the tension between the characters is strong enough
I love how afraid he sounds when he asks Will how he knows about the key, he genuinely shook Jones when he wagered for it.

Nostradamus's Les Prophéties. I started to read after the book sold more online due to the fact it was suspected there was a quantrine to do with Queen Elezibeth the 2nd passing and The Royal Family. Also, princess Diana dying and being a partial Prophecy I started to think Paul Walkers passing on Hercules street. I looked for Hercules in Les Prophéties and found this...
Notradamus- Les Prophéties. 942 poetic quatrains allegedly predicting future events (Century X:27)
"Through the fifth one and a great Hercules They will come to open the temple by hand of war: One Clement, Julius and Ascanius set back, The sword, key, eagle, never was there such a great animosity".
North American (eagle) Paul walker was working on the seventh Fast And Furious movie (through the fifth). When, with financial adviser Roger Rodas (sword&key) left from co-hosting a charity event (Temple) for a 2013 Philippines Typhoon. They died on Hercules st. (a great Hercules) Santa Clarita California by car crash. The weather was mild (clement) and the natural disaster caused both to fundraise for typhoon which caused aprx. 6600 deaths and $2.98 billion in damages(war). They both died (a great animosity).
“I challenge Davy Jones”
(HAKI)footsteps
Everyone:😳
"your fate is to be married to the ship", he was kinda right...
Davy jones slightly raising his eye brow when he says 7 fives is such great animation and it gives jones a real life feel.
Easily my fav Pirates of the Caribbean film
0:11 *organ music stops*
Rules of the Dutchman 101: The organ stops you know you f**ked up
I never actually noticed before, the guy Will disemboweled on the wrecked ship stitched himself shut with a fishing hook and line
Timestamp?
This scene would be so much better if they kept all of this
Davy Jones seems like a fun Captain.
Lmao I just got done playing rdr liars dice
The theory is that Jones thinks everyone in his crew is like him [callous, selfish, in it only for themselves], so he expected Bill [who just got his freedom] to call out Will as a liar. Bill turn it around by bidding something that's legitimately near impossible, forcing Jones to call HIM a liar, saving Will while dooming himself.
Wow that is so much better than theatrical release
I just came to this scene after watching someone explaining Liars Dice.
I'm surprised i understood the game way before the explanation. It just made sense from context alone for me.
CGI is absolutely immaculate for being this old of a film
This is what happens when you put in money and effort into a film. CGI is a great tool, and if used properly and with care, and maybe even in conjunction with practical effects it can become absolutely timeless. However, many filmstudios use CGI as a way to save on money, which is a shame since then it usually looks absolutely rancid
@@WH40KHero exactly. Ppl bag on CGI, but its really BAD CGI that ages poorly. Great CGI is just like great practical effects: its timeless
I don't know why, but the the facial expression he makes when he says "then it wouldn't be fate, would it?" Keeps making me laugh 😅
Makes the scene even more heartbreaking if they kept it in. Bill was free but thrww it all away to save him. And he beat the monster already and thought he gonna do it again
Here from lord ravens craft who broke down the entire deleted scene
Yup, and showing that Jones can be beat.
The smile on bootstraps face as he is officially free until will demands another game dam it makes ya feel bad for poor ol bootstrap
To all the seaman out there.
By sea and by sky, i shall have my soul bound by water ti'll life as my soul is spared for Davie Jones Locker.
I really love this movie it's my favourite Disney childhood film. Including "At World's End"
After watching this I always play this game with my mates and win nearly every time
"I challenge Davy Jones"
Literal fucking pipe organ stops.
*SEVEN FIVESSSSSS(ah)*
🏴☠️🐙
foouur foooouuurssee hehehe
jones: "i remember now. your the one who hopes to be MArried. But your fate is to be married to this ship!
william:" i choose my own fate."
jones: "then it wouldn't be fate, then would it?"
next movie: Will becomes the dutchmans captain, through no choice of his own.
When you realize the villian was right all along,
Master Turner feel free to go ashore, the very next time we make port 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Such a clever writing
In the battle of wits other than Jack, there's only one person I know that could definitely outsmart Davy Jones... John Constantine.
The captions cracked me up a bit
"I challenge Davy Jones"
[organ music stops]
that little sound Davy makes at Bootstrap to gtfo 😂 3:47
I just noticed That the fishman behind Will has a fricking mooray coming out of his belly.
3:46
Davy Jones's best moment
I love his voice I don’t care what you say
This scene is so damn good! It really holds a lot more weight knowing Bootstrap just got his freedom back, but is willing to throw it away immediately for his son.
It really is a perfectly written scene.

6:38 davy jones theme
Even his crew scared of him to death!
Thank you for the video.
I'm amazed. This movie has a few completely unnesessary scenes. Why they decided to delete this one is beyond my understanding
