    Such an amazing trilogy. The biggest flaw for DC for me is they haven't had any continuity over the years. The franchises and even remakes stand on their own so much. But I think I remember reading that they are going to change that soon. I'm guessing based on the success Marvel had doing it.

    • @PhantomLantern2814
      @PhantomLantern2814 2 года назад +9

      Honestly that is a double edged sword. Yeah sure they don’t have any continuity, but that just means they aren’t anchored down by being part of a bigger universe that they’re obligated to interact with. You can tell a solid Batman story and change things up, you don’t have to worry about maintaining status quo with him because he’s gotta show up in Justice League 4 or something.

    • @mage1439

      @@mage1439 While I see where you're coming from, I can't say I agree. A lot of Batman's best moments come from his interactions with other heroes. • @mage1439
      @mage1439 2 года назад +1

      @@MandatoryFruit Sorry, I should have clarified. In the movies he's best standalone. Robin is fine, but beyond that, nah. I'll even clarify further. Live action movies, since a lot of the animated ones carry a lot of the wider world. But in the LA movies there's too much to establish. Once again, though, having A Batman in the shared universe is cool but the non-shared movies are usually better, partially because you can jump right in.

This trilogy was a colossally amazing introduction to his character in a more serious light (before I watched these movies my main experience with him was through the LEGO Batman franchise). Once you finish this trilogy, you absolutely have to watch The Batman (2022); it's on par with this trilogy and feels like a spiritual successor.

    They really built the Tumbler for the movie. There were a couple versions for different types of scenes, but the one used for the action stuff is a real vehicle. Had a really cool suspension, similar to what you'd see on extreme off road stuff. And a fairly powerful engine. They ended up destroying them after the last film, but there's an episode of Jay Leno's Garage where he got to check it out and drive it. I really love the Michael Keaton batmobile, but the Tumbler is a close second. It's just badass.
    In terms of comic book accuracy this one was damn near perfect. The only other comic book movie that gets it this close to the source material is Deadpool. Watchmen was also good, although they did change a few things.

    PTSD is right. Batman's main origin story is that he refuses to get help for the trauma he experienced at a very young age and uses his Batman persona to let out his pent up hate, fear and aggression on people who had nothing to do with the trauma he suffered. Sure he might justify it by saying he is fighting crime but his methods, actions, relationship with his family, friends and loved ones speak of a man with severe mental illness and anguish almost to the point of sociopathy. I like Batman as a Superhero in a Superhero world but as a person, the man needs help. A lot of it.

      I feel like that’s a very bleak way to look at batman that is largely created from the movies. Yes he’s a damaged individual but he’s not some raging psycho who’s only interest in beating on criminals. He genuinely helps people. Both as Bruce and batman. And he has sympathy and attempts to help many of the people he fights against. He’s not just some monster using his trauma to beat on people because they’re criminals. Batman is a man doing his best to help his city, Despite knowing he’s not gonna be able to fully change it no matter what he does. In my opinion batman is all about the small victories. It’s not about ending crime it’s about helping reduce the damage crime causes. Every time he saves a hostage or prevents an assault that’s win. Every time he gets a criminal to go straight and get a job at Wayne enterprises that’s a win. Every child that gets to have their parents alive and healthy is a win. Batman is about helping in whatever way he can, not beating on criminals to relief deep seeded trauma. I feel like this one thing no Batman movie has successfully showed off yet.

      Bob Kane created Batman to be basically the polar opposite of Superman, both in physiology and psychology. The Man of Steel has often been referred to as the big blue boy scout, while the only thing Batman has in common with a boy scout is he's almost always prepared for any eventuality.

      As Joker and other characters point out (in various storylines over the years) Batman is just as "crazy" as the Joker, it just so happens that his particular brand of crazy involves saving innocent people from harm, so Gordon humors him for the greater good. Some aspects of Batman are methodical, rational, and involve complex planning, but at the heart of it, yeah he has a few screws loose. Even Alfred said in this movie "when you told me about your grand plan to save Gotham, there was only one thing that stopped me from calling the men in white coats."

    I have a great story for the Dark Knight when you get to it. That being said DC movies are different in Marvel movies because most of them are different in tone. Not every movie is dark, but Batman usually ends up being that way. Gotham is a terrible place, and the movies can't even touch the comic books in showing how bad it is. You should check out How Batman gets his voice on RUclips, you won't regret it. It's like the how it should have ended stuff

    Prior to doing this movie, Christian Bale starred in a movie called The Machinist, where he was skeletal thin, shockingly so. He then had to gain back 60-pounds and get very fit to play this part. Consumate actor.
    Side note - Liam Neeson is fantastic in The Grey. Devastating and brutal movie.

    Yes, DC was on fire with Nolan back in the day, but before the MCU was a thing, this trilogy had a single rival, Raimi's Spider-Man!
    Which honestly mirrors Nolan's Batman in many ways, as in;
    - The first movie was a great origin story for the main character.
    - The sequel was the best movie of all the trilogy
    - And the final entry was still good but not as successful as the previous ones.
    Highly recommended.

      Iron man 2008
      The dark night rises 2012
      Avengers 2012
      4 movies between for marvel
      The MCU was a thing during this trilogy

    Batman can't fly. He uses a motorized grapple gun which makes it look like he's flying, and he uses his cape to glide.
    To answer your question: Vigilantes make for great fiction, but a vigilante would be a menace in real life.

    Most DC is 💩 - but Nolan's trilogy is pure gold. "The Dark Knight" still sits on the third place of the IMDb Top 250 - that says it all. Best MCU Movie there is "Avengers: Infinity War" on 63...
    There are three more MCU Movies in that list, but only the two other Nolan Batman's are there too - no other DC beside them. 😜

    Enjoyed! Really looking forward to Endgame and The Dark Knight now. The Dark Knight is arguably the best DC movie there is. One suggestion, when you get around to watching DC's Justice League, watch the Zach Snyder version. It's longer, but much better. I'm sure everyone will agree who's seen both.

    This trilogy is what killed the DCEU for me. A perfect batman trilogy, it makes him awesome, makes him relatable, and then... not used. DCEU batman is a different batman. Different details, different connections, just... lacking all the backstory the Nolan trilogy gave us, and justice league is worse off for it.
    Can't wait to see you react to the other 2.

    22:38 Batman is not Dexter. Batman has a very specific “No killing” rule. Also Batman is not a vigilante, he’s a legend, a silent guardian, a watchful protector: a dark knight.

    It’s a hot take among my friends, but I prefer this movie over any other Batman movie, including its sequel, The Dark Knight. I’m a sucker for a good origin story, and seeing the manor, his parents, it all just adds something that TDK doesn’t have, for me. It was awesome to see it new through someone’s eyes! 😁
