I saw this in theaters with my mom on my birthday. It was so cool to see it on the big screen. One thing I vividly remember is after my mom said, "I didn't think a movie about robot fighting would make me cry." Such an unexpected feel good movie. Given that the shadow and the bot could be oriented any way, it would make perfect sense if the shadow boxing function could be inverted or returned to normal on the fly, perhaps automatically even with a bit of code to help. Would help if it was stated more explicitly rather than glossed over but its fine.

I remember seeing this in theaters with my friend and we knew absolutely NOTHING about it. We hadn't seen a trailer and didn't even see a poster of it at the theater. It felt like this got zero advertising at the time. Anyway, we went into this as blind as you can and were absolutely floored by just how good it was. This movie punches above its weight class -- pun intended. It's a movie about boxing robots that is somehow so...human. I freaking love this movie and it's crazy how it still doesn't get the recognition it deserves. This REALLY is a good movie and I agree that it's one of the most underrated movies out there.

You spotted a few but Dakota Goyo who played Max also played young Thor in the first Thor movie, and Hope Davis who plays Max's aunt also played Tony Stark's mom in Captain America: Civil War. And Kevin Durand, who played Ricky, co-starred with Hugh Jackman in X-Men Origins: Wolverine as Fred/Blob.
I watched this movie in cinema's and it got me so hyped because of the command-fight of the robots. I got older and I watched it again and it's a wholesome movie, fully packed with emotions (comedy, joy, drama, loss, etc). I also wonder why it doesn't have a higher ratings in most movie sites. It really is an underrated movie.
I think because a lot of people brought the movie down to a simple description of "Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots The Movie" Literally how my mom and I described it before we saw it. You hear that and you think it's gonna be a cheesy hunk of shit movie. When in reality it's got an amazing story and it just a boat load of fun to watch.

I had seen Chappie before, and liked it. So one evening I put it on for my daughter, who was ten at the time, and she loved it. She got very upset near the end, and turned to me and told me she didn't want to watch it any more. I told her to keep watching, and that Chappie was going to save Mommy. We stuck it out, and sure enough, she was delighted to see Mommy come back. I thought we were just having fun, but she was VERY emotionally invested in the movie.

I don't know if anyone has asked for this, or if its even in your wheelhouse, but I strongly recommend reacting to the Epic: The Musical animatics. Its a musical still in production (about The Odyssey), but fans have made animatics to tell the story for all the songs that have come out and they are amazing, gut-wrenching, and all around beyond belief to watch and listen to.

In the Twilight Zone episode the ex-boxer actually dresses up as a robot to fight in the ring. He gets wrecked of course. So the shadow mode here is a good way to have the same development but a happier ending.

I remember watching this at the cinema and was literally on the edge of my seat in the final fight. The atmosphere of the place felt like we were there physically watching the fight amongst the crowd. Such a great movie

This movie was directed by Shawn Levy. He also directed Deadpool and Wolverine. There has been talk of the sequel starring both of them. Not sure what Ryan would bring to this story. Does it need some comedy?

whenever I see real steel playing on our cable tv, i always watch it. probably watched it at least 10x.
In the Twilight Zone episode the ex-boxer actually dresses up as a robot to fight in the ring. He gets wrecked of course. So the shadow mode here is a good way to have the same development but a happier ending.
