IDENTICAL twins who were born looking very different are finally looking similar thanks to groundbreaking surgery. Gabriel Cooper was born with Pierre Robin Syndrome, meaning his jaw did not fully form in the womb - leading to a facial disfigurement. After 19 years of looking different from his identical twin brother Hadin, Gabriel has undergone plastic surgery and had his jaw expanded - dramatically altering his face.

Actually a lot of people get double jaw surgery done, and it changes there life's. There are a lot of people with similiar situations, not as deformed though of course.
If he had dental work done I feel like that'd do him justice.
And skin resurfacing to help his scars. C:

Can you imagine the amount of bullying he must gone through in school? Some kids can be really cruel. I'm so happy for him, this does make a huge difference in his self confidence. He'll be completely out of his shell in no time. I'm sure later on they can make even more adjustments on his face, but even this way he looks way much better already. :-)

I just want to add; If children have the need to be cruel it is most likely due to a bad environment.

Tore me up inside when his Mother said he no longer sits or stands with his hand covering his mouth; has to be a sigh of relief, a great feeling for him. I am so happy for him!!! His Mother and Twin are real family support, I love it; makes me so happy.

it would be great if he could also have reconstructive dentistry. palate expander, braces to pull in the front teeth so the jaws function better as a whole. also, he should be reminded to keep his lips closed. he's not used to it because he probably couldn't before (i know another person with p-r syndrome) but it really leads to poor teeth. i'm so glad he got the mandible lengthened, he is so much easier to understand when he speaks.

It's not necessarily wrong, in Spanish and French the name is pronounced like that for guys too.
The doctor wasn't French or Spanish or anything, he just didn't care. He was lazy. Plenty of doctors out there just like him

when your going for surgery, you don't say to your loved one "prepare for,the worst" you say "I'll be okay".
I think it's so realistic, though, being someone who survived a car accident and my father didn't, and having to have multiple surgeries on my leg and face, to feel like that. For me, I felt like I had to be strong for my mother, and I wasn't really afraid of surgery because I could have died anyway. But for him, there's probably a lot of fear and apprehension. He didn't know what to expect, and maybe to him, preparing for the worst was actually better than being overly optimistic. It's twisted in a way, but it also shows how much he cares. Being in his position, he's most likely been forced to become a realist due to the stares, the taunting, etc. I do understand your sentiment, however, and I agree with it. I can just see his side of it as well.

Kate Marsh I totally get what you mean. My boyfriend and I have talked about this plenty of times and it is kind of rude to put subtitles on someone’s speech, effectively translating English to English. If you think about it, imagine you gave an interview and believed you did a good job only to watch the clip and see subtitles. I personally would find it demoralizing. Hopefully the makers of the video told him they would be using subtitles in a gentle way (ie “We’re going to use subtitles to make sure your message isn’t lost to people who may have a challenge understanding your speech impediment.”). This was a nice story though overall. He seems like a great person and I hope things continue to improve for him.
I'm not a native English speaker, some times ago I only watched video in Italian and now, with the help of subtitles not only I can watch videos with subtitles but even without them; they helped me a lot in learning a different language.

Good to see Gabriel's surgery went well. I went to high school and graduated with him and his twin. I can personally say that he is a really bright and smart kid and fun to be around.
