    I make really small cutesy things most of the time (earrings and such) and what I did is very similar except on a tiny scale. I have a set of glass storage containers with really thick plastic lids that clamp around each side. The clamps hold so tightly that it's quite difficult to get them open (the reason I rarely used them LOL). The brand is SnapWare, but the ones I just looked at on Amazon don't seem to have lids as thick as my older set, mine are really beefy. They also have a silicone gasket. Anyway, I drilled a hole in the lid, popped in a tubeless tire valve and use a bike pump with a gauge to pressurize it. I regularly go 10-15psi and it holds that with no problem, barely puffs the lid. My tiny but very detailed castings come out awesome and it takes up very little space. I rarely do clear castings, my issue was getting tiny details to fill all the way, so I can't speak on clarity with my "rig." 😆

    I tried this, looked everywhere for a lid finally found one at Lowe’s got home drilled the hole perfectly cleaned it out put the valve stem in put lid with gasket on the bucket took bicycle pump and started pumping and no dice! Air leaked out from all around the lid! I’m debating weather or not to buy one of those gamma lids and put the hole directly in the center and try that tomorrow! I’ve used them on 5 gallon buckets to take water when we go camping to shower with they seem to be leakproof but not sure if they are air proof but since it will stay on I guess a guy could silicone all around the lid to help it be air tight since the middle of the lid screws off! Think I might try it and see what kind of results I get with that. Thanks for the video I appreciate the time and effort you put into it explaining it I’ve been trying to cast small LEGO scenes in 3” molds and it’s been working great until right at that 8 hour mark when the deep pour resin really starts to set up it squeezes the bubbles out of all the small areas and typically the top is hard already and they can’t rise all the way up to be popped with a torch or heat gun

    Thanks for both vids on this, despite a negative comment or two, who cares, it how we figure anything out in the first place. I have that converted pressure pot from hf and it is good for , but the options, for sizes, ease, cost and for different purposes, this is great. It got me looking at other "weather sealed" containers for different shapes and size projects, especially if it's under such low psi, and it you use slow cure, it's perfect. Thanks for the inspiration.

    Hello sir. Just wanted to say thanks for this idea! I did use a 5 gal bucket because that is what I found. I also found it worked great at an overnight cure with about 5 psi. I seen the deformation of the lid and stopped at that psi. Made this for my wife and her sister. They were thrilled at the results. I do agree with all you say about the safety issues, and would only add, use common sense! If you see something that doesn't look quite right, stop and ask somebody competent about what your doing. It's always worked for me, but then again, I was taught personal responsibility. Anyway, just wanted to pass along a thank you for this, it's a great idea when used with common sense.

    Thank you for both of your videos about DIY pressure pots. Assuming the 3.5 gal bucket works better than the 5 due to the material flex of the bucket under pressure. I would think wrapping the bucket in wire mesh, tape and maybe even some resin and glass cloth would substantially reduce the bucket swelling.

    Good idea thanks a bunch.. However you did say that the pressure pot works out the bubbles. Pulling the bubbles out is what a vacuum does. A pressure pot actually compresses the bubbles but does not remove them. I'm now subscribed and look forward to some of your other ideas.

    • @MadMakerWorkshop
      @MadMakerWorkshop 2 года назад

      bubbles are at atmospheric pressure. Rising outside pressure and resin pressure pushes resin into material and voids and makes them surface. It does not work so well with small bubbles that will disperse and not surface tho, only big ones and air pockets get handled by pressure pot. Vacuum pot is better at pulling out small bubbles in resin itself. smarter folks than me say you get best results by using vacuum first and then curing in pressure pot.

    But, yeah, DIY in inherently dangerous.. Take care and pay close attention to what is happening!

    Hello sir, what kind of clear resin do you use? Brand? Temperature of cure?

    • @jennercustomtoys
      @jennercustomtoys  Месяц назад +1

      I use Amazing Clear Cast in this pot. The resins that get hot won't work with my reusable molding compound. Also, with the lower pressure you have to use a resin that takes hours to cure, not minutes. I will be re-doing this video soon to clarify a lot of things I've learned since this one was published.

    • @jennercustomtoys
      @jennercustomtoys  2 года назад +1

      for safety reasons, no. The clips on the top of this pot hold the lid down in a way that if one happens to give way to the pressure it will only let the air out instead of blowing the lid completely off. If you put too much pressure in one with a screw lid it will completely pop off possibly hurting someone. Thanks for your question.
