Model Builder was introduced from ArcGIS 9X.
Used for the both modelling analysis and creating tools that can be used repeatedly with different input feature class.
Another useful feature of the model builder is an export function that allows modelers to create the python script directly from a model.
Model Builder is a fantastic tool that will make it easy for the GIS analyst to bridge to gap from normal GIS workflow to automated python based workflow.
