Thanks man. I am doing an 05 front right axle soon. I was wondering if you had to torque any of the nuts to a specific torque with a torque wrench, or have any input to that end. Thanks
Hey The Honda Resource Man, huge fan. These video have been really great and really helping me with my projects. I was hoping you can give me a pointer. I am having a really hard time getting the driver's side axle out of the transmission. The passenger's came out a breeze. Is it normally like that? At the 8:37 mark you just hit it was a hammer. What size hammer is it? Are you hitting it at a specific angle or just up? I only have my car up on jack stands so I don't have as much space, so I don't want to accidentally hit it wrong and break something. Thanks.
For hub assembly you really have to beat it. Helped me to hammer the cv axel sticking out of the hub, as he did after he freed it. Also had to beat on the bottom of the ball joint bolt in the upward direction, with the nut all the way down/ a piece of wood in between to soften blows. For axel, helped me a lot to just tear the boot off in the back and rip out the front part to stop all that junk from blocking the axel from coming out. Hope that helps someone..
Mine was really, really stuck, and after several hours of hammering on it, I borrowed a slide hammer with an axle puller attachment. It took another hour with the slide hammer to get that thing to come off. Now I'm having hell getting the new half axle installed. I may take the inner shaft off the truck, put them together, and install it that way. I had very little trouble getting the half shaft out and then back into the transmission. Not sure yet what I want to try next. The outer CV axle is plain hard.
Dear ChrisFix, Thank you very much for your video. I have a question about a front wheel bearing. My car is Honda CR-V 1997. The Honda Service says that front suspension parts, including the knuckle, upper and lower arms, sway bars, etc., should be replaced, except the front wheel bearing. I wonder why they didn't mention replacing the front wheel bearing. Is it because it is in good condition? I bought a new knuckle. When replacing it, can I use an old front wheel bearing to put into a front knuckle?
This video helped a ton with my installation. I used Napa axles, but the right side vibrates at low speeds. Are you experiencing this with your Rock Auto axles?
I have a question, i have a Honda crv 1998 and my transmission went out and it's a fwd I found a transmission but is 4x4, exactly the same. But with the part of the 4x4 Can I actually put a 4x4 transmission onto a fwd type of car?

I really appreciate your videos, ive already done a few fixes on my 97 crv including my drivers cv axle just the other day. The inner nuckle completely broke with a pretty liolent response on the highway. I replaced it and it felt good at first, but there is one right curve with a bump in it that seems to set that side off into a fairly violent rotational stutter (happened twice) similar to when it broke. When I pull over and slowly continue it corrects itself. Any idea what this could be? Its only been suggested that it could be the alignment causing it. No noticeable play in bearing and only a little in the tie rods. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
I bought my 99 CRV from a dealer and he covered up some issues and one of them is the boots for the CV joints were torn and they're starting to wear but the problem is I don't have any money left after buying a vehicle so what would happen if I waited to replace my CV joints axles?
Btw, my original axle shaft to be replaced has a balancer about midway on the shaft. But I can't find a replacement with a balancer (it looks like a round hard rubber thing around the shaft). Are they even necessary?

I have a knarly leak and I'm having a tough time tracking it down I was thinking it was a cv axel seal maybe if there's even one? The passenger axel was definitely replaced maybe they did something but the leak has progressively gotten worse about a quart every week of driving. Any help would be appreciated
Hey my name is Derek I talk to you a lot through RUclips I have a 97 CRV going to take rear differential out can I get the existing drive shafts or what spindles do I get for the rear to support bearings I remember you told me before but what year would work
What does the drivers side cv axel plug into? What’s that part called? It’s like a spacer rod of some sort best way I can describe it. Mine seems super loose on both the transmission side and axel side.

What's your opinion on OEM vs aftermarket? Starting to feel less rigid about using aftermarket parts after installing a Chinese driveshaft recently and having it run well, so far.
@@hondaresource Thanks just did that. Question, after replacing the RH axle on my 99' 5spd crv I noticed that the part of the axle shaft that goes into the transmission wobbles a bit after installation, I can move it about 1/8th by hand, . When driving from a stop 20mph to 30mph it vibrates often, it's what it was doing before that's why I replaced it. This is the second one on warranty from the same brand you're using in this video. After driving for a day I notice transmission fluid on the bottom of the tranny coming out the axle seal, I imagine it's due to all that wobbling? I'm getting ready to purchase another axle from a different manufacturer but before I do just wanted to know which one of these post install descriptions is normal or not. I really hope it's not the tranny, thank you.
Good evening! Got a question, my passenger side CV axel did not come out as easy as yours in the video. Actually the housing seems to be stuck. Thanks man. I am doing an 05 front right axle soon. I was wondering if you had to torque any of the nuts to a specific torque with a torque wrench, or have any input to that end. Thanks
I don't. Never have. Only thing I torque is engine internals
Uh oh?? I followed your video step by step (you're great at explaining by the way) replaced my cv Axel and Now I got a ABS lights on....I'm at a loss.
Does your new axle have the abs tone ring? Did you stretch the abs wires?
@@hondaresource probably has a new ring since my photo looks identical to the replacement. Not sure if I stretched the abs wires
Thanks.
Hard time getting it off the half shaft or getting the half shaft out of the trans
The wheel bearings are not reusable.
@@hondaresource Thank you very much! Sorry for the wrong name.
This video helped a ton with my installation. I used Napa axles, but the right side vibrates at low speeds. Are you experiencing this with your Rock Auto axles?
This was a flip vehicle. It's long gone
Can a problem like this with my 01 crv. Cause. Vibration one day then go. Away and come back
I have a question, i have a Honda crv 1998 and my transmission went out and it's a fwd
I found a transmission but is 4x4, exactly the same. But with the part of the 4x4
Can I actually put a 4x4 transmission onto a fwd type of car?
yeah, the awd trans will fit. You can run it as FWD or if you want, add the rear diff, axles, and driveshaft and it'll be awd
Hey Man, what nunber gimbal cross cardã from crv 2000,please.
Hey boss What cv axels do u recommend if I’m trying to lift my CRV 1.5” on the front ?? Thank you!
OEM or NAPA reman
@@hondaresource thank you!!
I love your videos!! Was wondering though if you could make a video on how to change a crankshaft position censor. I have a 99 crv and haven't found any videos on it.
I can, typically I just bypass them though
@@hondaresource I replaced my distributor and for some reason the engine light is on and it's saying cylinder position sensor on the code that comes up
I really appreciate your videos, ive already done a few fixes on my 97 crv including my drivers cv axle just the other day.
I'm not sure on that one. It's not an issue I've seen with any of the ones that have come through my shop.
I bought my 99 CRV from a dealer and he covered up some issues and one of them is the boots for the CV joints were torn and they're starting to wear but the problem is I don't have any money left after buying a vehicle so what would happen if I waited to replace my CV joints axles?
They will gradually start clicking and popping
Btw, my original axle shaft to be replaced has a balancer about midway on the shaft. But I can't find a replacement with a balancer (it looks like a round hard rubber thing around the shaft). Are they even necessary?
No, the only way you will find one with that dampener is to buy OEM
Are your axles you get from RockAuto good quality and what company would you recommend for getting a new power steering rack I have a 97 all-wheel-drive CRV thanks for your info
I haven't had any issues with rock auto parts. Brand of rack shouldn't matter too much. Just fyi they suck to install on the awd versions
@@hondaresource from what I'm seeing yes appreciate the info don't know if I'm having problems from Bad bushings on upper control arms or inner tie rods are causing my problem
Best honda content on RUclips. Have you ever seen a leak on the manual transmission where the axel goes into the transmission? I have a knarly leak and I'm having a tough time tracking it down I was thinking it was a cv axel seal maybe if there's even one? The passenger axel was definitely replaced maybe they did something but the leak has progressively gotten worse about a quart every week of driving. Any help would be appreciated
There is most definitely a seal there
Hey my name is Derek I talk to you a lot through RUclips I have a 97 CRV going to take rear differential out can I get the existing drive shafts or what spindles do I get for the rear to support bearings I remember you told me before but what year would work
Just just need rear axle stubs from a 98-01 crv fwd. All 97 are awd
@@hondaresource perfect thanks I couldn't remember what years
Also if you have any of those axle stubs laying around see if you're willing to trade this differential out for them
What does the drivers side cv axel plug into? What’s that part called? It’s like a spacer rod of some sort best way I can describe it. Mine seems super loose on both the transmission side and axel side.
Some call it a half shaft, some call it an intermediate shaft
Thanks brother
Would you happen to know what causes an axel from slipping out from being flush to transmission? Awd rd1 manual
Like popping out of the diff?
@@hondaresource yes, passenger side.
I have a 1997 Honda CRV four-wheel drive want to take rear differential out can I disassemble CV axles and use the axle stub for spindle nut which goes through wheel bearing do you kind of understand what I'm talking about have you ever had to do this any comments or health would be freely appreciated
yeah, that would work just fine.
тоже менял ШРУС. хорошая машина, Хонда
What's your opinion on OEM vs aftermarket? Starting to feel less rigid about using aftermarket parts after installing a Chinese driveshaft recently and having it run well, so far.
I use cheaper parts regularly. They may not have the lifespan of oem but they are a fraction of the cost.
Isn't the car supposed to be sitting at ride height before tightening the bushings?
Ideally, yes.
Is there a specific torque spec needed for the axle nut or just some good'ol elbow grease?
Ugga dugga
I really hope it's not the tranny, thank you.
how cute the glass!
Awesome vid man! By the way I have a question, ‘98 JDM CRV Cv Axle Shaft Assembly is it compatible with the USDM version?
It should be.
@@hondaresource What if the '98 JDM CRV has ABS will that affect it using the USDM version?
@@outputdamikrip just get the usdm abs axles
Bro!!!! You save me lots of money!!!!
good deal!
Good evening! Got a question, my passenger side CV axel did not come out as easy as yours in the video. Actually the housing seems to be stuck. The knuckle or joint inside of the housing at the transmission end was completely broken and it just fell out when we dropped the lower control arm and pulled on the axel. Just wondering if you have any advice…we have stopped working on it tonight and will start back in the morning. Thanks in advance for your help & insight. The video was very helpful until this happened!
so the cup is stuck in the trans?
@@hondaresource Yes, I believe so. I’m not very mechanical and don’t know the right terminology. But that makes sense to meZ
@@BuyFromNeil-CoreysCars I've had some in the past that I hammered a chisel Between the axle cup and the trans. The chisel acted as a wedge and forced the axle out
@@hondaresource okay. I was able to get a chisel in between there, but didn’t really hammer on it last night. Also, I was going to try getting the drivers side wheel up in the air on a Jack stand. Currently, I’ve got only the passenger side up on a Jack stand. You think that’ll make a difference?
@@BuyFromNeil-CoreysCars na, shouldn't matter
I have a 2000 crv and it has what appears to be oil residue on the tranny like that one there. Do you know where it maybe be coming from?
This one was result of a couple engine oil leaks, mainly the oil pan and cam plug
Awesome. Thank you. 🫡
Now if he can do a heater core R&R for gen 1 crv that would be awesome
I have never had one come in for a heater core. It would be a lot of work to replace one, that's for sure.
