1. Instagram - building my following there. 2. RUclips - Research for my business, inspiration, and really the only "television" I watch. 3. Vine - Pure entertainment
Tight episode GV. As a college student, I've been spending an embarrassingly large amount of time on *Yik Yak*. They recently launched a feature called "base camp" where you can post and view posts at your college, even over vacation when you're not physically there. You feel closer to campus even if you're on the other side of the country! Interesting to see how much time people spend on it. I want to see how advertising will play into it, because the attention graph is strong with this one.
If you are still interested, the answer is Instagram. THANK YOU SO MUCH for an amazing episode!!! Love your videos and basically all you do. Best wishes!!!!
I'm massively upset there's still not an audiobook of Jab, Jab, Jab, Right hook...I'm not going to sit down and read a book, I'm just not but I love listening to the audiobook over and over...come on Gary...I'll promote your book through all my social media pages if you give us the audiobook.
Boy the conversation around the question of the female version of you is pretty powerful. Soon I'll start to make a conscious effort to create a brand for my self and I've really been putting a lot of thought on how free I'll allow myself to be with my use of language. I'm an adult and I like the freedom to use any/every word available to best communicate how I feel about something. Filtering my language to pander to childish "grown ups" just feels so inauthentic. Fake. Selling out. But at the same time, I believe in my message and I want to reach as many people as possible too. And like you said, you acknowledge that you would have a bigger reach/impact if you filtered yourself more... Then again I can see that I'll have more fun contributing to and interacting with my tribe if I'm just 100% free to be me. No filters. Ever. Same cat you have dinner with at the conference is the same dude you see on your tv screen.
I'm really liking Periscope. I am always tuning in to see what comedian Jim Gaffigan is up to. I am also using it to grab new followers. on Twitter, all the while creating content for my RUclips audience. First to comment! Boom!
Awesome video Gary, the app that I'm spending a lot of time in nowadays is ask.fm because a huge majority of my audience goes on there to ask me anonymous questions. a lot of my interaction with my audience is through them asking me questions about their life and things are looking to understand better so I think the anonymous platform lets them easily ask it without worrying if the crush is going to see it, their friends are going to see it or in the case of email their parents are going to see it. also, unlike RUclips comments they understand that it's a saturated field to ask me something and that there is a higher chance they'll get an answer. That was the case with facebook messages, Instagram messages, email, and now ask.fm.
***** Since ask.fm offers users the chance to ask questions as themselves or anonymously, it creates a real and open space for people to genuinely express themselves without the fear of ridicule for asking something. Plus, ask.fm saves your questions on your profile so you now have a database of FAQ questions from your audience. Not to mention, it's another avenue to get very personal with your audience since it's focus is on Q&A and only Q&A. I've seen an influx of questions come pouring in after I've mentioned it on Google Hangouts and other places. It's something you should really think about adding to your plate though unless your audience skews to a younger demographic like mine does (12-25 mainly).
Great show! QOTD-Meerkat and Periscope. Will be doing a social Twitter wedding this summer for a client and have been researching them. #Askgaryvee #keepemcoming
#QOTD I'll give you a top 3! =D 1) Twitter - Just haven't used the video reply yet... Please, don't hurt me! ;) 2) Quora - Loving the longform Q&A. Feels like my bag. It looks like crap but it's been a good way to start talking with interesting people. 3) Medium - It took me a while but really getting into it. It's easy to make it look great and the import function has been a godsend!
QOTD: It is split between two apps. 1) Twitter-because it has replaced Google searches (hate that the algorithm is based on past searches. Feels like I'm being short changed on diversity.) Most of the best content I have found on the web has come via Twitter not Google. And when I find a good email list to join it's like finding gold! It also replaces news/magazines and it's where I get all of my news/info and how I keep up with current events. Also great way to study human behavior. I'm an information junkie and Twitter is my fix. 2) Kik-because I feel most comfortable in small groups or one on one and this app allows me to do that. Also it allows for diversify. Again algorithms that limits me to only connecting based on demographics like where I live and who I know (Facebook) is mad annoying. I want to connected based on common interest and not just race/location and any app that I have to work hard to do that on, I'm not gonna use much. It's another way for me to study human behavior. Attention is also a drug for me and Kik gives me my fix. Lol
Victoria J Great answer! =D I feel the same about Google. Started looking at Upworthy and other platforms but they all become kind of "samey" after a while. Although, I'm loving the stuff I'm finding on medium.com! Maybe Google could add a "Challenge Me" button? ;)
Loved this episode ***** particularly when you spoke about the authenticity of Instagram posts and the content finding its audience. #QOTD response: Funny enough, Instagram is the app I spend the most time on primarily becuase I have a client whose marketing strategy is to focus on that particular platform as a result I require myself to be on it as necessary for the client as well as to research new ways to use the app to benefit my client as well as build my knowledge of the platform.
Annoyingly, the things that have most of my attention are individual sites with poor mobile versions. I go on them because the content is still valuable -- reddit, and 2 message boards. Actual apps - Evernote, Instagram, Gmail.
I think the first question was about scaling and not so much about intrinsic motivation. So should you get more clients/work than 40 hours, actually more than you can handle alone, before scaling. So what happens first? Scaling or the work?
QOTD: I'm still on Facebook. I don't spend too much time socially on my phone which is a good and bad thing. Good in terms of not being distracted, bad because I don't interact to build audience enough.
Ha, just last night I was explaining authentic self to my 13 y.o. Timely because I just came to conclusion I'm not a #1 kind of guy, but better at #2,3,4. QOTD - right now, it's a toss, but OneNote wins because I've been working on a self audit.
#QOTD pintrest. I can get idea of what other companies are doing in the space I am prepping to enter.. pintrest needs to get into video that would allow it to take over the role as better for the marketing than Facebook.
QOTD: I'm split between all of the main social media apps: FB, Twitter, and Instagram, that I'm always one because it has now become a job of mine that I'm teaching myself over the summer.
I'm spending a lot of time on RAUR, its a podcast app. I'm also starting to broadcast a bunch on periscopes since it just released for android. Lastly, Snapchat w/ friends.
what is the app? Evernote. I'm taking all my business documents/invoices/statements/bill of ladings, everything is going paperless in the cloud. For both redundancy and easy of use. My online store is having a bit of a growth "issue" right now and I need to tighten the ship up so we can continue to move at scale. And that means keeping better books.
***** I'm on the premium plan, the unlimited uploads. I sign in on two computers, mine and my wifes, then I have a stack I use for incoming invoices, my wife gets them, does the expenses off them and we file it into a notebook
Using Twitter more, Instagram (finally using it!), Periscope (although I haven't used it yet, just looking at others' feeds at this point). And of course the ever-present Facebook. I like Pinterest although I use it exclusively for personal stuff. My life is so busy that I don't get a chance to try out the other apps.
Our team is spending a lot of time with the app Viewa. We're launching this mobile publishing platform to the Nordics after solid success in Australia. Our goal is to have this app as the number 1 visual based search app in the Nordics. We will make this happen in under 12 months. It's bold but hey...so are we.
QOTD - absolutely positively Twitter Excellent show my dude. However, shouldn't the "Day in the Life" video have been in black and white? ;) Yours, B.S.
#QOTD I spend most time on Instagram. They show me what I want to see. FaceBook insist on showing me content friends like (that I can't reply to) and shows me less and less of the content I physically went to "like."
I'm gonna answer with a better question: What apps does your phones first page contain? Commonly Used: RUclips - its the gateway to information. Instagram and most other other socials just waste my time. Of course this opinion will change when I get more of an audience. 1st page of my phone: (Skipping past Messages photos etc) Evernote, Waze, Instagram, Fouresquare, Podcasts, RUclips, Twitter, Kindle, MyFitnessPal, Gymboss, Sense.
QOTD: Chit - social networking after last call. Shameless plug lol. We're in beta testing for our Food & Beverage social network. But I'm in it a lot cause that's where I'm working :)

Based on pure consumption, its vine. I often have a group of friends (22+) huddle around an iphone and watch these hilarious vine videos. I think theres a growing community outside of the 13 year old girl demo.
Instagram all the way. Still pissed off about the facebook organic reach drop down and thinking about several ways to tackle this. Unfortunately, I'm building a non-profit community and can't spend tons of euro's on dark posts... As it's not my core business I also don't have the time to create amazing content, even if I could.
As a 16 year old, Facebook is dead, twitter and instagram is cool but Snapchat is the king, i can see live streaming getting big as well soon but my social media app will kill it when it's out, my whole school is waiting ;)
Tyler's Life Tyler -- can you do me a favor, and email me @ tim@tim.do and take 10-15min and explain the best ways/practices of SnapChat to find new people to follow, ways to get people to follow you, etc. -- I'll PayPal you $50. I feel the only way to get a following is that you have a following on another platform (ie. social, email, blog, etc.) I'm @timothymevans on Twitter/Instagram. Thx, man.
QOTD response: The only "app" (assuming you mean mobile here, Gary) I spend any time on is Instagram. But if you mean "social platforms", then it would be a toss-up between Twitter and FB... possibly a bit more Twitter. A few months ago, it would have been Google+, but I realized I'd gotten about all the benefit from G+ that I was likely to get, so I hardly go there anymore. I spend a good bit more time on Medium now, though, since you talked it up. I know... not a social platform, but still a decent branding tool. What happened to the bucket? Did DRock steal it to carry his camera gear in?
Instagram hands down. Deleted facebook from my phone because I was spending way to much unproductive time on it. It really sucks you in. Instagram is much more refreshing and easy going way to break up the day, doesnt demand as much attention
QOTD: While Instagram is still my favorite social media app, I've been spending a lot of time on Twitter the past couple of weeks. I realize how important a platform it is and have finally figure out how to "play the game". I enjoy it a lot more than I used to.
QOTD Most used apps (in order) are: Gmail, Chrome, Camera, Evernote, Feedly, and Google Calendar.... hon mentions to Zite, Memrise, Fieldrunners, Starbucks, CivRev 2, Level, TD for iPad.
Twitter - best app and social platform ever. The fundamental ability to join in any conversation I want is the reason it continues to surprise people.
Gary V's answer to that first question is just on point. Great answer!
Phenomenal episode-one of my absolute favorites!
QOTD: Twitter far and away. Instagram is second. Everything else is a distant third.
1. Instagram - building my following there.
2. RUclips - Research for my business, inspiration, and really the only "television" I watch.
3. Vine - Pure entertainment
I love the humility. "Don't listen to a 'guru"', cause I'm not one".

Great show Gary. Thank you to you AND your team - Let's not forget them :). And 1)RUclips. 2)Twitter.
I've been using Instagram a lot. I am very visual, so I am addicted to it:)
Loved seeing you in my RUclips feed this morning. RUclips for me.
QOTD: Instagram, FB, Snapchat
Great show, Gary! Happy to see you on the weekend.

Other than Facebook, Swarm. I LOVE checking in and bragging where I am!
Twitter app. I spend time on a lot of different apps, but Twitter, at this time, is still my most engaging and interactive platform.
Hey Gary, QOTD response: Right now, I am bouncing between Instagram, RUclips & Snapchat. Of course, Twitter and FB are always at the top of the pack.
#QOTD probably instagram now. You got me hooked!
Great show! QOTD-Meerkat and Periscope. Will be doing a social Twitter wedding this summer for a client and have been researching them. #Askgaryvee #keepemcoming

Yes! Zac Scy - Creative Coach a challenge me button would be perfect! Lol I love Medium will have to pay more attention to it.

RUclips for sure. Watching this show.
Annoyingly, the things that have most of my attention are individual sites with poor mobile versions. I go on them because the content is still valuable -- reddit, and 2 message boards. Actual apps - Evernote, Instagram, Gmail.
RUclips on the computer (not the app) and Facebook on the phone with snapchat use really starting to rise.

New Future Builder Simple but effective!
IG by instinct, FB by wondering, T by Curiousity, SC by boredom
Ha, just last night I was explaining authentic self to my 13 y.o. Timely because I just came to conclusion I'm not a #1 kind of guy, but better at #2,3,4. QOTD - right now, it's a toss, but OneNote wins because I've been working on a self audit.

#QOTD - Pocket. I have SO MUCH material to get through!! Twitter is like a publishing service of good content, and Pocket is the library!!
Gmail, chrome, FB, Instagram, camera, calendar, RUclips & scrabble are used daily.
"Too bad, I thought she was a carbon copy of me..." *Gary realizes he's in trouble* "I love her perfectly the way she is..." *bullet dodged*
Super stoked that you called out sexism 👌🏽
#QOTD Facebook and Instagram equally at the moment. FB for family/friends and groups, Instagram for inspiration!
It's a close race with Twitter in 1st. Insta in 2nd and Super in 3rd -followed closely by Vine and FB.

Excellent show my dude. However, shouldn't the "Day in the Life" video have been in black and white? ;)
Yours,

There are three apps I use about equally as much.
Social Media: Twitter
Life: Evernote & Wunderlist
Christopher Johnson Very nice
How do you keep your energy high throughout the day, any particular diet/nutrition?
Within the last day RUclips but within the week it's a cross between Twitter and FB
What a pleasant surprise to start the weekend with a Ask Gary Vee Show! Thanks Gary & team!
#QOTD Twitter
Instagram, snapchat, Twitter. Thanks Gary !
#QOTD I spend most time on Instagram. They show me what I want to see. FaceBook insist on showing me content friends like (that I can't reply to) and shows me less and less of the content I physically went to "like."
QOTD: Pinterest --- only because i am trying to redecorate my living room at the moment.
Top 2-
1. Hoot suite
2. Snapchat
Vivino app :) great community around wine!
QOTD: Chit - social networking after last call.
Shameless plug lol. We're in beta testing for our Food & Beverage social network.
But I'm in it a lot cause that's where I'm working :)
QOTD: unequivocally, the Gram :-)
QOTD: LoseIt. Getting back into healthy living. Lost 90lbs in 2013 using it, put back on about 45lbs, need to drop back down again.

QOTD - Twitter. Instagram is a close second.
I'm spending most of my time on instagram and snapchat.
RUclips to watch the #AskGaryVee show and the Bible app. A bit of God and a bit of Gary each day! ;)

Alibaba, Ebay, and Amazon
Currently using Mediatoolkit - real time media monitoring
#qotd I use waze a ton. I travel all over for work, and it's an awesome GPS app. Probably Twitter & RUclips would be next in line after that
Late comment, I am spending a lot of time on Indeed looking for a new/ different job.
I am playing with Periscope!
QOTD: Periscope.
