  • I really like the Affinity Jazzmaster, so when I saw a Burgundy Mist Telecaster Deluxe pop up, I had to buy it. I'm glad I did, because I love it! It was tough making the video because I was so inspired; I was writing so much material on it (which, for obvious reasons, I didn't include in this video) that I've got 2 hours of footage filled with ideas to comb thru.

    I come back to these videos frequently and I don't even own or intend to buy this. It's just such a well made video. I really like that you add acoustic playing in to show the resonance of the guitar, no one does that and it's one thing i find important in a guitar.

    • @sunnyhaair
      @sunnyhaair  Год назад +2

      Thank you for sharing that with me! It really does mean a lot. I actually just logged in to check my comments and got my first negative comment before this one, so I appreciate you taking the time to share some kind words with me to balance things out 😅
      For the acoustic playing, I personally play electrics unplugged a majority of the time when writing so the unplugged sound of a guitar is important to me too. I find that when a guitar naturally resonates a certain way, it’ll sound amazing plugged in regardless of what pickups are in it.

    I wish all guitar and guitar sound demos were made this way. I especially like that you addressed concerns of your viewers. Only the best guitar channels at RUclips will do this. I found this very helpful in my decision to purchase one of these with the intention to install my Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge position but these original pickups sound very good so now I have a new dilemna, albeit, a good one to have... haha. Thank you!

    • @sunnyhaair

      I really appreciate you saying that - thanks! It’s amazing to me that anyone watches my videos and I never lose sight of the fact that real people are watching. Instead of seeing viewers/subscribers as numbers, I consider it friends coming to hang out. So when someone takes the time to watch, let alone ask me to showcase something or my opinion on something it’s so cool and I’m always happy to include that in a video.
      I’m honored that this helped you make a decision and I hope you enjoy your Tele! No worries if you ultimately decide to put some Invaders in (never hurts to mix things up) but I definitely suggest spending some time with the stock pickups and adjusting them before you make the switch - they’re very versatile.

      Thank you Treeman that’s very kind of you to share. If you’re able to pinpoint anything else in particular that makes it special to you I’d love to know! Because I’m not sure what it is about this video, but it gets more return viewers than any of my others.
      It might be weird, but this is the only video of mine I return to watch occasionally too. Partly because theres a few riffs I’ve been meaning to lift and develop, but mainly because I had a lot of fun that day. I had put on Netflix in the background, didn’t overthink it like I normally do, and just spent the entire day with that guitar. So it’s nice for me to revisit that day by revisiting the video, and it makes me happy to know other people have liked it too.

    I ordered one of these the other day on a whim. After watching your video I'm excited for it to arrive. I was thinking it could be a great mod guitar but I'm gonna have to rethink that after hearing the sounds you got out of the original pickups. Great video. Thank you!

      Thanks for sharing that with me Jim that’s awesome! I’d expected to mod mine when I first ordered it but now I can’t bring myself to change anything about it - not even the scratchy pot 😅
      There’s just something about those pickups that makes them versatile but also consistent. I’ve played them through a little Blackstar Fly 3, Peavey Vypyr, Line 6 Helix, and mostly recently a couple of Mesa Dual Rectifiers and it’s adapted to everything better than almost anything else I’ve played. When you get yours I totally recommend playing with the pickup height just to hear how adaptable they are when you do that.
      Thanks for watching and congratulations on the Tele! I hope you like yours as much as I like mine.

      Thank you so much for the kind words Colton! The neck is on the chunkier side, but I don't know that I'd call it chunky. I'd say it's as thin as a C shape could be without becoming a D shape.
      Comparing it to a popular shape - i's a touch more rounded than, say, a typical Ibanez neck or Epiphone's Slim Taper profile if you've ever used one of those. It's no where near the thickest necks I've used though.
      Actually, I've got a tennis ball here, and the neck shape of this is roughly equivalent to if I were to cut the tennis ball into thirds.
      Hope that info helps - thanks again!

    I just got this guitar. While I agree with your general assessment of the fit and finish quality of it, I just don't like the pickups. I do agree they have excellent string separation, but no matter where I adjust mine they sound thin and trebly.
    While that is useful in some situations, for me, thats not how I want it to sound overall. I like more balanced tone and I prefer a midrange bump vs scoop, if I have to choose.
    I have some GFS surf 180s coming and I'm almost certain those will beef up the signal quite a bit. This was a great review.
    On a side note I went through three guitars before I settled on this one. The first was $1,000, the second was $600, the third was $700, and finally this one was $250. I sent back the first three due to problems that the Squire did not have, such as uncentered pickup routes and too many dead frets.

      For the cleaning I used Gorgomyte and Ernie Ball Fretboard Conditioner Wonder Wipes! I’m not affiliated with the manufacturer, but with the Gorgomyte I recommend ordering it direct from the supplier instead of a retailer - it’s been dry from almost every retailer I’ve purchased it from. Which isn’t the end of the world - you can rehydrate it by using the wonder wipes first if needed. Just want to give you a heads up.

    Thank you so much for this video and the Jazzmaster's one! I'm planning on buying my first electric guitar and I have been keeping an eye on these two since they came out, I also went to play them at the store and I love how they feel! I was wondering, which one would you recommend?
    Since I've never played on electric guitar I am not even sure about what I'll end up playing on it, so I'm looking into something quite versatile... (For example, a bid downside of the Tele is that it doesn't have a tremolo bridge). And also, I prefer clean sounds, if that makes any difference. I know it isn't a lot of information to give an advice, 😅 but tbh I don't really know what the final use of the guitar will be ahaha I love too many genres...

      Hi again! Sorry for such a delay. I was hoping to get your question answered in the video, but the video is still a while away.
      Anyhow, I’ve had a chance to spend a lot of time with both of these and they’re both great. So more than anything - I’d say get the one that makes you want to play the most. Psychologically, getting a guitar that inspires you to pick it up is what matters the most in the beginning!
      Now, if I had to pick one though, I’d have to go with the Telecaster Deluxe! Visually, I like the Jazzmaster more, but the Tele Deluxe is so versatile, I love the pickups, and more than anything - it’s just comfortable! Jazzmasters CAN be very comfortable but they take a little getting used it. With this Tele, it’s contoured, it’s light, and it feels great whether you’re standing with it for an hour, or laying on the couch with it.
      Sorry if my opinion came too late!

    Hey! This was some great playing and an awesome video! I was planning on buying a new guitar and i think this tele could be a good choice. I also saw the jazzmaster video and I wanted to ask you which one you would recommend me! I most likely play clean, and i love darker tones (i loved the neck position of this tele), but I also dig the “nylony” sound of the jazzmaster! What do you think?

    • @sunnyhaair
      @sunnyhaair  3 года назад +1

      Thank you for the kind words! 🤔 hard to pick one on a whim like this. I’m leaning towards the Jazzmaster since it’s the darker of the two naturally, but as you heard here, if you roll back the tone on the Tele, it can get pretty dark! It’s also a bit fuller being a humbucker. But I don’t know if a full dark tone is what youre after.

    Compared to the regular squire affinity telecaster, is the deluxe model good for beginners? I'm wondering which would work better for me, a soon to be beginner on a budget (I won't be playing it through an expensive amp, I'll be using the Vox pathfinder 10). I really like the deluxe model for its looks (the all black one, in particular), but it seems a bit more complicated than the regular affinity tele. Which one should I get?

    • @sunnyhaair
      @sunnyhaair  3 года назад

      No need to worry! The Tele Deluxe isn’t more complicated than the standard Affinity Tele. I’m sure the standard one plays just as well, but if the Deluxe is the one that’s speaking to you - I think that’s the one to get! With these humbuckers, it’s more amp flexible than the standard Affinity Tele too, so I think it’ll give you a wider range of sounds with the Pathfinder 10.

      I’m happy to hear you enjoy the videos and even happier to hear you’ve decided to start playing guitar! My vote is for this Tele Deluxe. I could’ve beat around the bush and said all are great choices (because they are; especially the Starcaster), but this Tele Deluxe fits the profile of what you’re looking for better than the others.
      It’s clear & it’s versatile. It’s lightweight & durable. I’m blown away by this guitar every single time I pick it up and it’s something I’ll carry with me thru the rest of my musical life. So I have no doubt it’ll serve you well for 3 years and beyond!
      It’s also the perfect middle ground between the normal Telecaster and the Starcaster. The Starcaster is amazing, but it’s a pretty dark sounding guitar. The Telecaster is bright and versatile, but for certain sounds it can lack depth. The Tele Deluxe sounds clear without being overly bright. It’s got midrange depth. It’s incredible and I would’ve loved to have had it as my first guitar.
      Hope this helps in some way. Let me know how things go once you make your choice and get your guitar - I’m excited for you. Thanks again for watching!

Either way if you’re planning on buying one I wouldn’t let fear of that deter you - you can always get some shorter adjustment screws!

      In this video I was using the Line 6 HX Stomp! I’ll have to check my project files to confirm what patches I built, but I’m fairly certain the clean amp is the Archetype (PRS Archon clone) and the overdriven sounds are with the Line 6 2204 Mod (it’s based on a Marshall JCM800). Both amps ran into the same cab block - an XXL V30 (Mesa oversized 4x12 model) mic’d with a 67 Condenser.

    • @sunnyhaair
      @sunnyhaair  3 года назад

      Mechanically it should be super easy given the pickguard construction. Electronically I’m not sure. I haven’t taken a look under the hood and I’m not sure when I’ll change the strings again to be able to check, so I’m not sure if Squier is using circuit boards or quick connect systems. Even if they are though, if you’re replacing both pickups, I don’t think you’d have any issues that would make it tougher than a normal pickup change.

    While a nice guitar I would argue that it is not so much a Telecaster but rather a factory Tele parts caster.. Not a snobbish comment, just an opionion based on the pickups, control layout, and bridge. On the plus side, for the look of a Telecaster, it has a Squier Telecaster shaped body and neck that is bolted on.

    • @sunnyhaair
      @sunnyhaair  2 года назад

      Not snobbish at all! And I agree; I’m not sure if I mentioned it in the video or elsewhere, but even I said I thought my first telecaster would be a “real” telecaster meaning that classic Tele single coil configuration.
      When I think “Telecaster” I see a single coil Tele. A Telecaster Deluxe is a completely different beast. A nice one, but other than the shape, a different one.

    I just bought that guitar...but when I plugged into amplifier there is noise whenever I am not touching strings...can anyone help me out to solve this?

    • @sunnyhaair
      @sunnyhaair  2 года назад +1

      If it’s only happening when you’re not touching the strings no need to worry. That’s normal! Especially if you’re on a high gain setting. Certain variables can lessen or increase it - cables lengths or types, certain light sources and distances to them, computers, cell phones/chargers, etc. Even your wall outlet or whatever else you may have plugged in on the same circuit. The constant fix is a noise gate if you’re unable to isolate the variable(s) causing it.
      Hope you’re enjoying your new guitar!

      Oh that’s a nice pair to choose from! Personally, I’d pick this. I have a few Epiphone Les Pauls and they’re very nice, but not super consistent on the QC. Two of the three I have had truss rod seating issues, all three have bridges with inconsistencies in the string saddles. Not major issues, but probably not something you wanna deal with out of the box.

      @@chrisstephens6194 Yep! Truthfully, neither is a bad choice. So I could say, “buy whichever one speaks to you the most” and it wouldn’t be wrong. The guitar you’re thinking of the most is the one for you… but that’s a non-answer! And I hate when I ask for someone’s opinion and they do that haha.
      There’s something very very special about this run of Tele Deluxes. They’re a lot like the Japanese Fenders I’ve owned. I see them either getting more expensive (there’s already been a $20 increase from when I purchased but I guess that’s just inflation). With Squier’s track record of improving at the rate they have, I wouldn’t be surprised if by 2023 the Affinity Series hits $400 and the lower quality Bullet line expands to fill the $200 range. It’s already happening with the Jazzmasters. Some of them are off the market, but the stuff that’s reappearing is $500 and up. I guess Fender found out these guitars are way too cheap for how good they are.

      @@sunnyhaair Update: I ended up getting one about a year ago from Facebook Marketplace for $100. It was dinged up and, as expected, needed some fretwork and general TLC, including bracing the neck for a few days. But it's now the coziest guitar I've ever played, and it's not even close. I don't know if I just got lucky, or if they're all this good, but it's a dream to play. I can't really justify the expense, but I still might replace the pickups and electronics with GFS quick-connects, just for the hell of it.

      @@paxonearth That's awesome I'm happy to hear it! Yeah mine is hands down my favorite guitar I own. I gotta say though, it's not just this one - every Affinity guitar I've played is amazing. I think it's because the necks feel so "real" with the way they're shaped and finished. No plasticky glossy finish. And then the action... I'm not sure what sorcery Squier is using, but I'm able to get the lowest buzz free action on them and no guitar has come close - not ESP, or Gibson, or Ibanez - nothing.
      I don't blame you on the electronics - this tele is the only Affinity one I haven't changed pickups on, but my Starcaster and Jazzmaster both had the electronics swapped. Still though, not a bad trade considering that bang for your buck.
