An Arle reveal trailer would go crazy. I'd love to see her beat up Rosalina&Luma, use an item that could usually decapitate someone on Chrom, rejecting a lovestruck Kazuya, hanging out with Bayonetta and Corrin and finally kicking Dr. Mario's teeth in. There are SO many funny references to make.
To be fair, the original Madou Monogatari games were dungeon crawlers, and I don't think that genre is represented in Smash either, so Arle could technically represent both.
My guy seriously diminished Fatal Frame and Puyo Puyo so hard to not even consider them lmao. The girl from Fatal Frame is already an assist trophy in Ultimate, and Arle is the face of Puyo Puyo and is really popular in Japan. I agree that Tetris is bigger than Puyo but if you add in a puzzle rep, she should be your very first choice. Also for rhythm games it's a real shame you didn't mention Taiko No Tatsujin or Taiko Drum Master, which is an incredibly popular and very long series of rhythm games that even crossed over with Mario Kart. If Rhythm Heaven doesn't get a rep, then Don-Chan is the obvious next choice. That roguelike take for Zagreus is okay I guess, Hades is a good game, but if you want to represent a genre then you need to go for its classic main characters, and Isaac is the absolute best pick for that. About visual novels, while Pheonix Wright is absolutely a great pick for that, there are a bunch more options that are just as relevant as him for a pick from this genre. You could go for the classics by picking someone from the classic Key VN's like Clannad, you could go for Kurisu from Steins;Gate, and you could definitely go for Saber(+Shirou) as picks from Fate. I'd love it if they represented the shmup genre in some way, I don't really know any older protagonists but I'd love to see Reimu get into Smash since Touhou is such a massive and important franchise. Your take about Gordon Freeman is immensely based though, and with that I completely agree.
Another genre they could add is the beat'em up genre. So many companies have made beat'em up games like Capcom's Final Fight, SEGA's Streets of Rage, and Rare's Battletoads but I think the best reps would the ones made by Technos Japan, which made series like River City and Double Dragon. River City can be considered the father/grandfather of the beat'em up genre, is a large franchise, very popular one in Japan, and some of its characters are already in Smash Ultimate as spirits. Plus they would work perfectly in Smash Bros gameplay.
Sometimes i genuinely forget nintendo actually did horror games and yknow, I wonder if the potential for new smash additions could lead to proper remasters too
Then again Nintendo and Sakurai could cheap out and consider Luigi as the horror rep since Luigi’s Mansion exists even as an offshoot of the Mario series and with Dr. Mario being the puzzle rep and R.O.B too to an extent with Gyromite and Stack Up.
A really well done video on the possible candidates for representing a new genre in Smash, Sakurai flat out saying that Smash is a celebration of gaming while revealing another Fire Emblem character was always weird and never made sense since Smash hardly is a celebration of gaming and is missing a lot of the different genres which make up gaming. Another great idea for a part 2 video would be the *”Beat’em Up”* genre, and the first character that comes to mind is BattleToads which would be my personal pick, there’s also Mike Haggar from Final Fight, Gilius Thunderhead from Golden Axe, Axel or Blaze from Streets of Rage, Billy and Jimmy from Double Dragon, Kyoko and Misako from River City Girls. There’s so many lol.
I want to see Toys To Life representation in Smash. I know that franchises is dead but hey we got Mr Game N Watch and Pac Man for arcade game representation so it can be possible. The franchise of course has to be Skylanders. For a rep I don't know there's so many Skylanders to choose from.
@@rodondendron Never heard of that game. Skylanders was the og Toys To Life game. The only other one that would have a rep is Lego Dimensions with Lord Vortech but I don't know if that would work legally. I don't know who owns the rights to Lord Vortech. He's from a Lego game made by Tt Games under WB Games so I don't know if Lego owns the rights to the character or WB Games owns the rights to the character.
@@thomasbennett0 Tamagotchi (the handheld digital pet) is an iconic example in the realm of interactive toys, but it differs from the toys-to-life genre represented by Skylanders. Created by Bandai Namco in 1996, Tamagotchi became a global phenomenon, selling 91 million units and influencing the way people interact with digital companions. It’s surprising you have never heard of it. While not a toys-to-life game in the traditional sense, Tamagotchi laid the groundwork for the genre by blending physical hardware with digital companions. While Skylanders might be the most iconic in the toys-to-life category like you say, Tamagotchi holds a special place as a pioneer of interactive digital experiences. Perhaps both series deserve a spot in Smash :P
@@thomasbennett0 Yes, I get that. Although I do feel like amiibo are, in a way, already covering Toys to Life in the way most people know it, therefor making Skylanders less likely. Like I said, I think both Skylanders and Tamagotchi could be featured, to cover “Toys to Life” as most people know it and “Interactive Toys” that inspired them.
Fatal Frame as the rep makes more sense and deserved it more. Camera as a weapon is much more unique than a sword. Adding a villain without the portagonist doesn't make sense either.. Imagine Ganondorf or Sephiroth made into Smash before Link and Cloud. Nintendo also co-worked on FF MoBW.
Hades is a great game and all and I wouldn’t mind if Zag got in, but if there had to be a rep from a roguelike in smash, I think the most fitting character would Shiren from the Mystery Dungeon series. No other roguelike comes close as far as relevance to Nintendo, with the series starting out on the SNES, having titles on many Nintendo systems up to the switch, and even crossing over with a flagship Nintendo series (Pokémon Mystery Dungeon). Plus if you look at the character himself, the moveset potential is astronomical.
For the third party rhythm game rep, I really feel like it needs to be a Dance Dance Revolution dancer (probably Disco/Afro). Or maaaybe Don Wada from Taiko no Tatsujin. It can’t be overstated how popular these series are in Japanese arcade halls. I also feel like the schmup genre is not really covered in Smash, so would love to see Vic Viper from Gradius join (but I’m not sure how they would do that). For the visual novel rep, I would also pick Monokuma from Danganronpa (after Phoenix). And it would be hilarious if they would include a GTA rep, but not sure if the age rating would allow it.

Nice video! Agreed with a lot of your picks, especially with picking reps for the puzzle genre. Enjoyed this video all the way through. On another note, seeing all this talk about representation in smash has made me think about the representation of indie characters. Of course, we already have some good Indie representation right now with the Shovel Knight assist trophy and even DLC Mii costumes like Cuphead and Sans. However, I usually see much discourse around which Indie franchise should receive a fighter slot in Smash. Of course, the first few that come to mind would be Undertale and Hollow Knight. However, I think people are forgetting about one thing or rather company that played a big role for indie games back in the 2000s. Behemoth. You have no idea how awesome a Behemoth rep would be. Behemoth was formed from independent individuals who went on to make Alien Hominid as the company’s first IP. Their titles helped influence the Indie genre and boast in popularity. Ok, now we have the company chosen fit for an Indie rep, but which IP should get a fighter? The answer? Castle Crashers. That game was HUGE on Xbox Live which may I say Xbox Live helped other indie games grow on the platform and overall in gaming. A Castle Crashers rep would not only be a perfect fit for an Indie rep but also would have such a fun and unique moveset. In the end, I expect our first indie rep to be from Undertale if we ever do get and indie fighter. However, I just wanted to say this so that there would at LEAST be someone to hear about my crazy ramblings and maybe at least push the idea. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to flood my comment too much. I just saw your video (which again is amazing) and wanted to share my thoughts for representation on something that really wasn’t represented in terms of a fighter (I know Indie games aren’t a genre). Hope you have a wonderful day!
Great video, for a part two a lot of people have mentioned beat em ups and shoot em ups, but some others could be farming (IDK if people consider animal crossing a farming game), a kart racer character who uses speed, items and jank to seperate them from Captain falcon, a card/ board game (51 clubhouse games maybe...), and maybe some kind of "funny" genre character e.g. Untitled goose, overcooked, human fall flat
Reimu Hakurei to represent shmups. Or shoot em ups. One of the biggest indie/doujinshi characters in Japan. And she’s one of the few characters in that genre that isn’t a space ship.
Nice video You were calm, logical and didn’t show much bias on your characters you suggested to get into the next Super Smash Bros game, representing their respective genres If you ever plan a Part 2 for this video, is Digital Pocket Pet a video game genre? It was something that was popular in the late 90 and early 2000s. There’s only 2 characters who could represent this genre is Mametchi from Tamagotchi and Agumon from Digimon Both are the main mascots of their franchises, Mametchi is familiar with crossovers racing against Mario in the Mario Kart Arcade games (who also has Don-Chan from Taiko no Tatsujin, another rhythm genre candidate) You could make an argument that Super Smash Bros has Animal Crossing in it Mametchi should be easy to do. But with Nintendo owning Animal Crossing they can do with it as they please Since Tamagotchi doesn’t have fighting what so ever, the choice may automatically go to Digimon who are more combat focused
Absolutely stimming seeing another person to advocate Freeman, him, Chief and Doomguy are the perfect 3 imo for the fps genre, you got the grandaddy, the face of XBOX and Freeman who reps a classic franchise, pc gaming, valve and steam
Of course League is gonna be chosen for the MOBA genre. However, one thing is for certain, if you're gonna have a character representing a MOBA, the Final Smash should be the chosen character's Ultimate, used in a Team fight with other characters from their game. Otherwise, it feels like your typical character. One character initiating, the rest helping, while the lead character using the ultimate to finish.
Surprised you didn’t talk about the side scrolling beat ‘em up genre, especially considering how much of Smash’s dna seems to derive from that genre. There a lots of great reps I would love to see in smash such as Adam Hunter or Cody Travers, but in the end the best representative for the genre IMO is one of the OGs, Kunio from the Kunio-kun/River City series. This one of the most iconic beat ‘em up series ever made and actually innovated many of the conventions of the genre. It has a close associate to Nintendo and is still relevant to this day. Not to mention the series already has spirits present in Smash Ultimate. As far as I’m concerned no other series could represent the genre better.
Although i really do agree on Phoenix Wright i feel like another really popular VN IP that should've at the very least gotten a mention is the Danganronpa franchise and i know how polarizing a lot of people think of Danganronpa but you genuinely cannot deny how big it is as a franchise and in my opinion when it comes to 3rd party VN reps that could get in its definitely 2nd place in having a realistic chance of getting in If i had to choose my reps for each would probably be these Shooter: Doomguy Rhythm: definitely agree on the hi fi rush guy Horror: i feel like Freddy Fazbear has an actually pretty good chance of getting in so either him or Leon MOBA: i dont really care for this so I'll just agree with you Puzzle: this one is very easily Shel from Portal for me, the concept is cool plus i love Portal so much Visual Novel: again i love Pheonix Wright but i have to go with either Makoto Naegi or Monokuma since i personally think the concept for them is cooler(also im more of a Danganronpa fan than an Ace Attorney fan sorry) MMORpg: i also dont care for this so whoever you said works Also i feel like this counts as a genre but for Indie reps it 100% has to be Frisk or Sans in my opinion
One I think that definitely deserves a spot is mobile games. And because mobile games are so popular there so many you could pick that represent that platform well, it's also not technically a genre, its a platform, which is very unique. I think Angry Birds, Clash of Clans, and cut the rope would be good picks, but there are tons more.
FPS: Doom Slayer (Doom) Rhythm: Rin (Muse Dash) Horror: Freddy Fazbear(FNAF) (With RE not having a character yet I don't think it'll happen because of the guns, like Snake I don't believe they'd be allowed guns) MOBA: N/A Puzzle: Arle (Puyo Puyo) VN: Professor Layton MMORPG: N/A Notable genres you missed Muso: Asuka (Senran Kagura) Gatcha: Euden (Dragalia Lost)
On the topics I feel like there are a few characters that I could recommend for certain genres For one, I think Don Chan from Taiko No Tasujin could also be an excellent addition for a rhythm rep. They have a cute personality, a presence on Nintendo consoles, and it would be a bit more straight forward to work in rhythm mechanics with a taiko bar above the character. Also, a tetris piece or more specifically all the tetris pieces in one being a character in smash would be just way too funny so honestly I think if they wanted to do it, they easily could. We've got weirder characters before haha
Another good one for rhythm games that’s a less obvious choice is any of the characters from “The Idolm@ster” series, especially since Bandai Namco owns the series
maybe i'm just weird but i think a fnaf character could work better for an horror rep in smash because not only those fnaf is a more a popular franchise then most traditional horror game but because I think it fully play on the idea of "you play as the bad guy and give the horror vibe to your enemy" freddy is litteraly an old metal animatronic that could have a ganon like gameplay but ways more oppresive and tressful perfectly representing the stress that you have while not only play a fnaf game but any horror game and if you want to play more on the " harmless playable character" gregory from security breach work well you could have a gameplay based on the idea to avoiding the enemy(you are a litteral child afterall)only to use you're rare advantageous stat(going inside glamrock freddy)to kill the opponent...if anyone find the idea cool :') ??
Crash Bandicoot he's a huge icon, and was even made to rival Mario and Sonic in the 90s and is easily one of my most wanted characters to become playable in Smash Rayman is also another awesome choice I'd love to see, he's been around for so long and is also very icon and everyone wanted him even more after the Rayman leak and as a 3rd: Shadow the Hedgehog, he's been left out of the roster for so long, and the Sonic series needs a 2nd rep and who would be better than Shadow! and I prefer him to have his own unique moveset were he uses his chaos abilities, don't really want him as a Echo fighter for Sonic, Metal Sonic fits that role so much better since he's literally made to be better than Sonic in every way Eggman would also makes a great addition to the roster as well as Tails and Knuckles but Shadow is the almost as popular as Sonic and from all the characters not in Smash Shadow is the most wanted and popular pick from Nintendo themselves I'd choose Dixie Kong for another female but also another Donkey Kong rep and for another nes area rep, Mach Rider, I already kinda like the idea of that in smash, so why not, he could be our next "gag" character and if they can make Duck Hunt (or Duck Hunt Duo in europe) work I see no reason why Mach Rider can't work for a new Mario rep, give us Toad, like it honestly kinda shocking how Daisy made it into Smash before a playable Toad as Toad has been much more important to the series than Daisy, I know people want Waluigi, but I don't think he should happen before Toad. Can even give him a captain Toad skin for all the people who want that version of the character
Honestly i know this doesnt align with the video but for a character that fight using like a rhythm base fighting style I would have picked rillaboom from pokemon sw and sh. It would have been a unique heavyweight with a cool mechanic but screw that CHAI SHOULD BE IN SMASH OMG HE WOULD BE SO SICK
Just one quick comment: regarding a League of Legends rep, wouldn't the most logical choice be a character who starred in one of the games published by the late, lamented Riot Forge? My vote goes to Sylas, personally. Seriously, The Mageseeker practically gift-wrapped him for Smash. You COULD argue, were you so inclined, that Ahri also starred in Ruined King, but she was one of six playable characters in that game, so it isn't quite the same thing.

for some reason, in my head for the rhythm game genre, and I'm sure some people agree with this, I think Boyfriend from Friday Night Funkin should be a good rep, perhaps with other similar characters as alts. Of course, Nintendo would have to make a unique moveset for him, considering he's just a rapper and all.
I think he meant spin off as in 'this series doesn’t stand that much on its own recognizability wise without the tie to the main franchise' Like,, if Persona was a different genre, I feel like like Persona would be included as a potential consideration despite technically being a spin off of Shin Megami Tensei because Persona stands on its own as a series Dr. Mario, while considered a good puzzle game, is highly dependent on the Mario brand for recognizability. Puyo Puyo is, yes, a spin off, but it is so independent of its original series that more people know the Puyo Puyo puzzle game than the original RPG series
Short for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, It is a genre under Real Time Strategy where 2 teams, each with a set of 5 characters, using their abilities to push their armies to destroy the main objective, traditionally.
Arles can't be added because she originates from a cartoon known as "Kitsy Cat and Friends" but she is known as Silvana in it and only appears 4 times in it.
Little Mac is from Punch-out!! and is therefore a puzzle game rep, and the creator of ARMS cites first-person shooters as the inspiration so Min-min is arguably an FPS rep. You also said that rhythm games aren't represented in Smash, which is not true - Rhythm Heaven has spirits and music in the game. This video is well edited and you've got a good voice, but you should really do more research.
@@DE23 There's an interview somewhere saying that ARMS was specifically inspired by the FPS genre. I suppose I should probably edit my comment to explain that.
Instead of stretching for a FPS rep (strerching...arms...ok it's not funny but come on) you could say that Metroid Prime is a FPS. Mario spin-off are important to the puzzle game genre like Mario's picross giving birth to Picross, several Dr.Mario games, Mario vs. Donkey Kong or idk Yoshi. So idk why Dr.Mario does not count. Lucas is a rythm game rep, Cloud is in theatrythm FF.Ok now I'm the one who is stretching, but if doing action to the beat is considered a rythm game, why not count Mother 3 as one. This one of the most iconic beat ‘em up series ever made and actually innovated many of the conventions of the genre. It has a close associate to Nintendo and is still relevant to this day. Not to mention the series already has spirits present in Smash Ultimate. As far as I’m concerned no other series could represent the genre better.

shoot em up?
well that's a stage in rhythm heaven
@@linorder22 im talking of games like gradius or touhou.
Sports Games: Waluigi
@@silveytd625 It could be, but nah, waluigi has more potential that just Mario sports games. I was thinking about someone from Inazuma eleven.
I'm glad to see that you'd think that Chai and Wesker would be great additions for Smash!
Parapa the rapper would be my go to rhythm character. I got to believe🤷🏿♂️
Although i really do agree on Phoenix Wright i feel like another really popular VN IP that should've at the very least gotten a mention is the Danganronpa franchise and i know how polarizing a lot of people think of Danganronpa but you genuinely cannot deny how big it is as a franchise and in my opinion when it comes to 3rd party VN reps that could get in its definitely 2nd place in having a realistic chance of getting in
If i had to choose my reps for each would probably be these
Shooter: Doomguy
Rhythm: definitely agree on the hi fi rush guy
Horror: i feel like Freddy Fazbear has an actually pretty good chance of getting in so either him or Leon
MOBA: i dont really care for this so I'll just agree with you
Puzzle: this one is very easily Shel from Portal for me, the concept is cool plus i love Portal so much
Visual Novel: again i love Pheonix Wright but i have to go with either Makoto Naegi or Monokuma since i personally think the concept for them is cooler(also im more of a Danganronpa fan than an Ace Attorney fan sorry)
MMORpg: i also dont care for this so whoever you said works
Also i feel like this counts as a genre but for Indie reps it 100% has to be Frisk or Sans in my opinion
Here's a few ideas to do for a sequel: Platform Fighters and Educational Games
One I think that definitely deserves a spot is mobile games. And because mobile games are so popular there so many you could pick that represent that platform well, it's also not technically a genre, its a platform, which is very unique. I think Angry Birds, Clash of Clans, and cut the rope would be good picks, but there are tons more.
Temple Run guy would be funny in Smash, just imagine his final smash.
FPS: Doom Slayer (Doom)
Rhythm: Rin (Muse Dash)
Horror: Freddy Fazbear(FNAF)
(With RE not having a character yet I don't think it'll happen because of the guns, like Snake I don't believe they'd be allowed guns)
MOBA: N/A
Puzzle: Arle (Puyo Puyo)
VN: Professor Layton
MMORPG: N/A
Notable genres you missed
Muso: Asuka (Senran Kagura)
Gatcha: Euden (Dragalia Lost)
And yet Joker has a special just called “gun”…also Bayonetta…
the little drum from taiko would b so cute as a character
Fantastic video
A lot of these charactees are in my wishlist
On the topics I feel like there are a few characters that I could recommend for certain genres
For one, I think Don Chan from Taiko No Tasujin could also be an excellent addition for a rhythm rep.
I need Karate Joe in the game ;-;
Rhythm Heaven is unfortunately forgotten about alot.
Horror? We all know we need Freddy fazbear in 😏
Crash Bandicoot
he's a huge icon, and was even made to rival Mario and Sonic in the 90s
and is easily one of my most wanted characters to become playable in Smash
Rayman is also another awesome choice I'd love to see, he's been around for so long and is also very icon and everyone wanted him even more after the Rayman leak
and as a 3rd: Shadow the Hedgehog, he's been left out of the roster for so long, and the Sonic series needs a 2nd rep and who would be better than Shadow! and I prefer him to have his own unique moveset were he uses his chaos abilities, don't really want him as a Echo fighter for Sonic, Metal Sonic fits that role so much better since he's literally made to be better than Sonic in every way
Eggman would also makes a great addition to the roster as well as Tails and Knuckles but Shadow is the almost as popular as Sonic and from all the characters not in Smash Shadow is the most wanted and popular pick
from Nintendo themselves I'd choose Dixie Kong for another female but also another Donkey Kong rep
and for another nes area rep, Mach Rider, I already kinda like the idea of that in smash, so why not, he could be our next "gag" character and if they can make Duck Hunt (or Duck Hunt Duo in europe) work I see no reason why Mach Rider can't work
for a new Mario rep, give us Toad, like it honestly kinda shocking how Daisy made it into Smash before a playable Toad as Toad has been much more important to the series than Daisy, I know people want Waluigi, but I don't think he should happen before Toad.
If they were to add Visual Novels to Smash, I bet someone from Fate would be among the candidates
Rhytm game would be an awful idea because with how bad Smash online imagine what would happen if you lose your rhytm because lag
lmao true tho. Idk how they would incorporate rhythm mechanics with lag. But I do think it would be at least interesting to see
I want Lip and Karate Kid

for some reason, in my head for the rhythm game genre, and I'm sure some people agree with this, I think Boyfriend from Friday Night Funkin should be a good rep, perhaps with other similar characters as alts. Of course, Nintendo would have to make a unique moveset for him, considering he's just a rapper and all.
But, by your own logic, we can't have a Puyo Puyo character as the representative for puzzle games. Puyo Puyo is a spin-off of an old RPG game.
I think he meant spin off as in 'this series doesn’t stand that much on its own recognizability wise without the tie to the main franchise'
Like,, if Persona was a different genre, I feel like like Persona would be included as a potential consideration despite technically being a spin off of Shin Megami Tensei because Persona stands on its own as a series
Dr. Mario, while considered a good puzzle game, is highly dependent on the Mario brand for recognizability.
Puyo Puyo is, yes, a spin off, but it is so independent of its original series that more people know the Puyo Puyo puzzle game than the original RPG series
Smash brother
A super one or just a regular one?
Super
what are moba games, ive never heard anyone use this word before
Like League of Legends and Dota2
I can't explain further than that lol
Short for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, It is a genre under Real Time Strategy where 2 teams, each with a set of 5 characters, using their abilities to push their armies to destroy the main objective, traditionally.
Kirby
Nice video, but why do you speak as if representing different genres is mandatory?
Arles can't be added because she originates from a cartoon known as "Kitsy Cat and Friends" but she is known as Silvana in it and only appears 4 times in it.
That is not her origin. She originates from Madou Monogatari
@@RadiantBlazeVA Not True LOL that is just a really weird Kitsy Cat game.
Arms... is a third person game...
If you're willing to consider *ARMS* a first person shooter you might as well just consider Inkling an FPS rep
Sonic is a Visual novel character.
