The mighty 190. The mid 80s was the absolute pinnacle of Mercedes-Benz quality. These may have been smaller and cheaper than MB's previous cars but they didn't skimp on the quality. The 3/4s scale S-Class design is a little oddly proportioned but otherwise Sacco's designs are timeless. That tan MB-Tex vinyl faux leather looks so comfortable yet durable. Monowipers are cool too and really weird when you see them.
That steering wheel though, I thought you were in a gaming rig. I can understand not wanting the MB faux airbag but I'd only put a wooden wheel on. I also see some tuner exhaust.

I am a BMW guy no question, never owned a Benz but DD a 535is and have owned 8 classic BMW including an E30. There is no question whatsoever that the 190 is a superior car, it cost more and is much more solid, the problem in America is that no manuals and the 16V was expensive AF.

Very cool car. I will never understand why Mercedes decided to make biodegradable wiring in that era of their cars. A lot of them are in the junkyard because of that. Sad😢

We had a 198? 190D... nice feel, you could tell it wanted to be sporty. but the D version really REALLY needed an overdrive or 1 more gear.... Sounded awful all the time on the freeway like the engine was going to blow
Very solid build. That doesn't even do it justice...EXTREMELY solid build. No gaps, no wobbly or bendy or loose anything anywhere.... body, handles, knobs, you name it

I’ve kept both my Volvo 855 and 190E manual cars as keepers they are great cars. Smaller more nimble and communicative on narrower country roads. The 190E was not designed as a Sports saloon like the tail-happy BMW. 👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

Did you find the kickdown button? on the Automatics, if you went wide open throttle, the was a little button behind the pedal to force a kickdown to the lowest practical gear. The lack of Detent on the shifter made manual gear selection quick and satisfying. The 5 speed manual on the other hand is not sporty or even painless. The clutch is almost truck like in weight, gear throws are like a foot in length, and not near as smooth as the auto. While the more sporty 2.3 16V and 2.5 16V were targeted to against the M3, there was another option. Called the Sportline package (AMG wasn't a thing until 1994 the 190 died in 1993). It featured fatter tires, smaller wheels, a smaller steering wheel with a faster rack, a 2 in drop in ride height, and larger sway bars in front and rear. While available on the 2.3 inline 4 (the most gutless engine I have ever driven), the package was typically on the 2.6l inline 6. Think of it as a 320i M sport equivalent. Fun Fact, in 1993 the 190e had a run of 1400 limited edition vehicles. 700 I4 cars with a unique green two tone paint and tan leather interior. The other 700 were 2.6l sportlines. All black exterior with silver panels, black leather, sport seats with red piping, faux carbon fiber trim instead of wood, and Sportline badging on shifter and glove box. All 1400 were badge deletes, no 190e or 2.3L/2.6L label on the trunk. Oddly, the Automatic was typically chosen over the manual for the 2.6L, and only some featured limited slip diffs. The early models were very basic, with transistor based mechanical fuel injection, and no ABS. As time grew, features expanded to include ABS, ASR (traction control) IC based Mechanical fuel injection, secondary exhaust systems, and upgraded sound systems ( an amp in the truck and two bass boys, one in each front door). The AC is anemic, heat works wonderfully, and some came with sunroofs. Owning one is an experience, but most w201 (thats the chassis name for the 190e) will tell you to have 2. One to drive, and one for parts. While many complain about the wiring, in reality, the car is extremely dependable, and any wiring faults are easily repaired compared to mechanical faults. Gas mileage is not that great. You have to run 91 or 93 octane to maintain longevity, and the 4 speed auto is lacking an overdrive. 70 mph is 3k rpm in the auto 2.6L. The 5 speed has overdrive, but with a weight of nearly 4000 lbs, you have to drop a gear or two to go up any hill. So I never managed more than 22mpg from either a 2.6L 4 speed or a 2.3L 5 speed. 5speed base Honda Accords can get over 26 mpg in this era.
And I have accidently written an essay. oops. In short, if you ever see a limited edition sportline, get it, its going to be a collectors item in due time. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

Engineering of the chassis and suspension second to none in its day ! It’s only Achilles heel is that’s ridiculous leaky power sapping automatic transmission . From experience it destroys the appeal of this car . I know I have one! Why any sane human would put an auto into 1200kg 4cyl car and then have it only use 3 gears in general use is beyond me!
