A Visit to The Floridita

Here's a Hemingway Hangout in Old Havana
"Old Havana looked dingy and poor," reports Diana Gonzalez in this 1979 story, "But on the corner of Monserrate and Obispo streets I found one place where the Cuba of yesterday seemed to remain intact" -- the Floridita restaurant, an old Hemingway haunt that retained much of its luxury long after the American author downed his last daiquiri at the Floridita's bar.
Antonio Melan, a forty-year veteran of the Floridita's bar, mixed the drink that the Floridita made famous, shared the classic recipe, and reminisced about Hemingway, whose presence haunted the bar and its menu. Melan also shared the recipe for Hemingway's favorite daiquiri, a sugar-free version of the Floridita classic.
