  • In this video, I share some tips on buying cigars in Havana Cuba. We recently spent a week in Havana. One thing I need to add is NEVER buy from people on the street!!! They are almost always fake and you will not have a receipt for Cuban customs. Sorry for the coughing; I was just getting over a bad cold when I made this video. CORRECTION! I found, when I opened the cardboard boxes that held the Montecristo Dumas and the Punch Punch 48 LCDH, that the cardboard is merely providing protection for beautiful wood presentation boxes!! Very pleased and I apologize to Habanos and my viewers for my naivety regarding the packaging for these cigars!!

    Nice Video, very comprehensive. I went to Havana in September, it was my 2nd trip there. I am an avid Cigar smoker. I was also stopped at the airport. I just keep my purchase slips in my back pocket, I went through security expecting it. They are just trying to make sure you paid the taxes on them, didn't get fakes off of the street ect.., I was met with snickers and laughs when asking about Behikes. Those Linea 1935s are something I will be looking to get next time. I had gotten alot of the "value" brands the last time I went. Next time I will be going for some more higher end stuff, I will usually stick to the stores you mentioned, but go to the La Quinta Avenida 16 store instead of the old Partagas factory.

      have smoked one of the linea 1935 dumas... really nice and distinct transition of flavors. That doesn't mean that one cigar was representative of the box, but I really liked it. My fav along with the Connie B.

      They have had a substantial price increase. When i was in havana back in dec 2019 i looked everywhere for QD 54 but could not find a single stick. The QD 50 is all i could find, so i bought several boxes of 10 of them. I haven't tried one in about 6 months but they don't do much for me. I wish i had been able to get some 54s.

    hi there, had a couple questions as I have family in Cuba right now and I will be there in March. coming from toronto, Can you use Visa in the la Casa del habanos stores? and also I plan on bringing big zip locks and Boveda packs, do you freeze your cigars for 24hrs when you get back, put in fridge for another 24hrs and then put them into the humidor after bringing them down to room temp? ive brought back from Cuba before but never froze them, got lucky with no beetles

    I just went in Jan 2020 i brought back 100 Cohibas 4 boxes of Robustos and like 8 bottles of Rum. Cuban customs did not care or ask me about them. I put 2 on my check in and two on my carry on. Now in the US side they did flag me down for secondary. Maybe since i did travel alone. But they fined me $50 because I was only allowed to bring in 2 boxes 50 cigars. And he said I'm not going to look at your bottles. I quickly just said yes and left with everything.

    Do not convert your dollars at the government exchange house. Always use your hotel or even a street exchanger. Right now in Cuba (sept. 23) my hotel gave me about an extra $100 cup to every USD I exchanged. 220/$1 is WAY better than the government gives.

    The step to convert USD to another currency before going to Cuba just to exchange that into CUC is not necessary is it? A friend of mine said he went down there with USD and he said many many people wanted his USD and he exchanged most of it with his Casa Particular owner. When he needed more while out and about he said it was easy to find people who wanted USD to exchange. I wish I could bring back cigars now but the law hasn’t reverted back yet

    They say to age Cubans before you smoke them, therefore my question is when in Cuban did you smoke any cigars and if so do you feel like they needed a bit of aging? I.e. the sick period?

    • @bamabiologist2945
      @bamabiologist2945  4 года назад +3

      I did not smoke any while I was there. My wife does not like them and therefore I only smoke cigars when she is out of town or if I am at hunting camp, etc. Best if you can age them 2 or 3 years, but some smoke fine with no aging. If you will dig through the boxes, you can sometimes find older boxes in the LCDH stores. I bought several boxes that were several years old and some as old as 9 years.

      The main two things to consider are: #1 it is illegal to purchase Cuban cigars through the mail into the USA. So they could get confiscated before they get to you. Number 2, (and my main concern with mail order) Are they authentic Cuban cigars? Many times they are not.

As of this time NO cigars or rum can be imported in luggage. This may change with the Biden administration but who knows if and when that will happen.
