Joanna and Andy had great chemistry, which resulted in many fans being sad when Andy’s on-screen doppelganger went on to marry schoolteacher Helen Crump instead of Nurse Peggy. The reason for Joanna and Andy’s on-screen chemistry may have been because the stars were actually engaged in an affair in real life while filming Joanna’s memorable episodes! Joanna was one of several actresses that Andy Griffith became involved in an affair with over the course of The Andy Griffith Show’s production.
Sadly, Joanna Moore’s career and personal life took a downward trajectory after her appearance on The Andy Griffith Show as a result of substance abuse issues. The actress was married four times over the course of her lifetime, and none of her marriages were great successes. Joanna’s most successful marriage was to fellow star Ryan O’Neal, whom she had two kids with.
One of Joanna’s two children ended up being Tatum O’Neal, who became the youngest star ever to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress thanks to her turn alongside her father in 1973’s Paper Moon, at which point Joanna and Ryan had been divorced for several years. Ryan went on to become a big star following the divorce, but Joanna’s career floundered. She ended up having to be financially supported by her daughter by the end of the decade. Join Facts Verse as we explore how these tragedies destroyed Joanna Moore after she left Andy Griffith.

After what I’ve repeatedly read about Andy Griffith AND Ryan O’Neal, her drug problems may not be the issue. The drinking and drugs were likely a symptom of her addiction to poor choices in abusive men. Don’t know about the other ones, but those two had some of the worst reputations for their mean, nasty, cold and entitled behavior.

    • @cindyb8775
      @cindyb8775 2 года назад +5

well said. I think Andy was an abusive man. They said he treated kene holliday horribly, absolutely verbally abused and mistreated him horribly.

When Joanna had custody of the kids she was using drugs heavily and had at least one boyfriend who was too young for her. During this time she was neglecting the kids. They stayed in a closet for a while. I don’t know whose I’dea that was. She didn’t feed them. She was too busy with her boy toy and the drugs.
I know that Ryan O’Neill was abusive to Tatum and Griffin when he had custody of them. I think Griffin got more abuse than Tatum. I also believe that the kids’ drug problems started when they were living with their dad. When Ryan developed a relationship with Farrah Fawcett he moved into her house and left the kids by themselves in his house. The kids were still minors.
Andy Griffith was a womanizer. He engaged in lots of extra-marital stuff with a lot of women. He mostly had a grumpy personality. He didn’t like to meet fans. He was actually very rude to fans
that saw him and wanted a photo with him or an autograph. He was an alcoholic and had a hot temper with a short fuse. And there was domestic violence between him and first wife Barbara. I’m not sure if it happened to his 2nd and 3rd wives or to any of his flings and affairs.

I’m not saying she didn’t make bad choices and this is in no way making excuses for her because we’re all ultimately responsible for our own actions but her traumatic childhood probably was largely the reason for her substance abuse and her failed marriages. Again I’m just saying that’s probably the reason but in no way an excuse.

    • @cmm2145

@@cindyb8775 - Andy was abusive. He and his first wife Barbara had some pretty bad fights. He had a hot temper and apparently also had a short fuse. He was destructive when he was angry. He broke his hand by punching a hole in the wall at his house during a fight with Barbara in 1962. His hand was bandaged in 2 consecutive episodes Aunt Bee the Warden and The County Nurse. The writers wrote it into the show by saying that he got into a tussle with moonshiners that he was arresting.
He is also known for punching the windshield of a car and shattering it and for destroying a hotel room.

She wasn’t with them. Her mother and sister died right away. Her father died a year later from the injuries he got in the accident.
After that she lived with her grandmother for a while and then a family adopted her.

Just because the whole world does it, doesn't make it right, but in many minds it does. Only a few are saved according to Our Lord's own words. @@kathleennorton6108 I do know that Google, RUclips, Facebook, and Wikipedia have lied tremendously about the real decent celebrities and so have people who worked closely with Andy Griffith who didn't like him because of the fact that he was a true born again Christian. If you believe any of the sources that I mentioned than you're extremely gullible! I caught Google and RUclips in several flat out lies about certain celebrities after I read irrefutable proof that Google and RUclips lied. Two other examples are Dorothy Kilgallen and Tom Netherton. Dorothy Kilgallen was murdered because she was too close to revealing the real truth of how and why former President Kennedy was murdered. All the evidence proved beyond any shadow of a doubt that she did not commit suicide. RUclips and Google lied and said that she committed suicide. RUclips, Google, and Wikipedia claimed that Tom Netherton never got married. I saw his actual wedding picture. Google said that in 2021 he joined some other members of the Lawrence Welk musical family for a remembrance show. Then, RUclips and Google said that he died in 2018. Obviously both stories can't be true. No, I'm believing any of the nonsense that RUclips, Google, Facebook, and Wikipedia say about Christian celebrities. Btw, several years ago, Facebook boldly said that they were not going to accept any TRUE Christian talk on their websites. If you want to be gullible and believe everything that Google, Facebook, RUclips, and Wikipedia say about the true Christian celebrities that's negative and false, that's your choice. I'm not going to. I meant to say that I don't believe any of the nonsense that Google, RUclips, Facebook, and Wikipedia say about the true Christian celebrities that's negative and false.

I really adored Joanna in the role of Miss Peggy! She wasi perfect for it & so wished she wouldn’t have left. She had the best personality of all Andy’s girlfriends & even being a huge fan of the show & still watching reruns today, I had no idea they had an affair on the show or Helen either for that matter. Looks like Helen won out all the way around. So sad to hear Joanna had a hard time of it & died too young! ❤️

Moore caused quite a stir in the Griffith household back in the 60s.
A former writer for Danny Thomas and "close friend" of Griffith once told a store tabloid that Griffith had "vicious arguments" with his wife over Moore, and that one episode of the show depicting Andy with a broken arm, actually began after Griffith punched a wall in his house following an argument with his wife.
Contrary to popular belief, there were more women than Moore and Corsaut in Griffith's harem of Mayberry!
