This is my entry (which won 1st place!) for Lincoln Brewster's "Show Me What You've Got" guitar solo contest. Thank you Lincoln Brewster for having this awesome contest!
The solo from Lincoln Brewster's song "Reaching for You." Ima let you finish, but this is one of the best guitar solos of all time... of all time!!
There are a couple tiny mistakes in timing, but I was more focused on getting the feeling right. Don't hate though... it's difficult!
Used my Ernie Ball/Music Man John Petrucci BFR6 into my Mesa/Boogie Roadster head using a Marshall 1960AV cabinet with all Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. The only effect used was a little delay using an MXR Carbon Copy delay pedal. Recorded using an SM57, an M-Audio ProFire610, and Fruity Loops.
Enjoy and subscribe if you want to see more videos like this!
@tcsballer11 Just remember, "Practice makes PERMANENT!" :) Even if you practice a lot, if you're doing it the wrong way, you're going to keep playing incorrectly! Always start at a slow enough speed that you can play it perfectly. Even if it sounds ridiculously slow, if it's the fastest you can play it right, then that's the right speed to practice.
Connor Engstrom Music lol like me?! I’ve been doing everything all wrong; which is why I haven’t made a video of me playing yet?! Yikes?!!!
I'm still trying to learn this solo. The phrasing for me after the first part of octaves is beating me up on the descending pattern
@@jamescompton8954 Lincoln Brewster made a lesson video for the guitar solo from this song! It might still be on RUclips. That's how I first learned this 😁👍
@@ConnorEngstromMusic thanks. I'll try to find it. I know his DVD lessons are on here but the solo, that may take some time to look up. Again thank you. Keep rocking our brother. The videos you make are killer. Keep it up
Thanks everybody! I really enjoyed viewing all the entries. I'm sure Lincoln had a hard time deciding the winners. There are a lot of great guitarists out there. We all come out of the woodwork when we see these contests!!
I’ve seen this many times and I have to say. Your feel and attack is so fluid. Inspiring.
you are back!!! and look so different!!! awesome playing always!!!
@Genmills according to my scouter...the level of awesomeness of this solo is most definatly over 9000
Winner...hands down. Nicely done!
dude you are going to win! ... this is the best ive heard... god bless you
You know the good guitar players make it look easy. You made it look fun and easy, God Bless you God has given you a 1st class talent.
Great technique... nice feel. This helped me learn the solo to perform this weekend... Thanks! I've seen some of your earlier videos also. You have a lot of talent!
the part from 0:00 to 0:43 is amazing good work
Thank you! I try not to waste the talents He gave me :)
Great job!!
MIND. BLOWN.
dam this is some awesome stuff. i saw the video where they announce your name and it must be pretty awesome to have that. you've always been my favorite guitar player on youtube by the way
cracking playing. That guy is a genius
DUDE...BIG RESPECT!!!! awesome!!!
Sick man. You definitely earned that first place award. Congrats!
Congrats! I thought you might win, well deserved. When is your online lesson with Lincoln? Or did you do it already? Let us know how that went...I'm sure we'd all be interested. We need another contest, maybe the "all to you" live solo? Thanks again for your encouraging words on my post, the speed is slowly coming, but just love doing those bends though!
Thanks! Minnesota, born and raised.
looking back at this video and i cant believe this was three years ago. i feel like i watched this yesterday.
hockeygodxx the Hanson hairstyle was big 3 years ago
Wow, you made that look easy. God bless you and your talent!
Immaculate playing and a fantastic tone. Bravo my friend.
I think you pretty much nailed it!
Thanks!
Hey man .. really nice job. Had I had my eyes closed, I would have sworn you were Lincoln .. easy to see why you won..
Well done! Best I've seen of the original so far, runs were just as clean as Lincoln.
Great Job on the solo.....
Great work..This is what inspires me to play. God Bless and keep them coming..
MrPRSguitar
@miguel4ngel Thanks! And Amen!
Awesome job! I would love to see you cover "Let the Praises Ring" in it's entirety!
Yes SIR !
no lie, I've listen to this at least 75 times... I love the tone and want to play like you. I'm also pretty sure you play this better than Brewster himself!
so... i should quit playing guitar huh..
That was AWESOME. God Bless
@fishmank27 Thanks! I still have to hear from them on when we are doing the online lesson... It will great, though!
@liczkos Over 9000?!?! There's no way that can be!! :)
@geraldwp By ear. Lincoln had a video where he showed how to play a few parts, but I didn't use that since I wanted to be note for note off of the album version. :)
keep rocking man U R AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome as usual.
Very good vibrato!! Awesome!!
@mrknolly Lincoln Brewster posted a tutorial for this song when he announced the contest. It's somewhere on youtube.
that was a Great! Clean. Super vibrato!!! Love the octaves.
from the 2007 you changed alot. now youre over9000 times more awesome than you've been ;D
That's really good! Awesome . . .
Very good! Love it! I want to enter some day if Lincoln Brewster does it again. Anyway, your solo was very good! -SP
This rocks! good job!
God bless! :) Sweet guitar playing man!
@zwgrad09 Thanks! That would be awesome haha!
@Ziece4 Thanks! As long as you don't pick anything too difficult, it's actually pretty easy to record videos at a decent rate. I just get lazy sometimes and that's why there's a lot of time between videos. :O Hope to see your videos soon!
That was bang on! Now play the whole thing..so I can finish rocking with it?! 👍
@Genmills haha yeah maybe the second one...for me at least. I kinda goofed the octave weird picking thingy (idk what you call it) in my video but it's alright. I don't care too much about Lincoln's contest I just wanted to throw that video out there b/c we play that song in our worship band at church and i gotta know that solo so i figured what the heck.
@sharkbaitOO7 He was commenting on what someone else had said, not on the video. But you're absolutely right! :)
@zachpfeif yea the solos r just awesome
I can see why you won, that was excellently played.
God bless you brother!
@PositivelyInsane Thanks!
1. I have this one, plus my Fender American Deluxe HSS Strat, which is tuned to drop B or something right now. I'll have to break that out some time... I also have a Gibson Songwriter Deluxe for when I play acoustic stuff.
2. Anything is possible... and more Dream Theater songs are very possible!! :) But it takes a long time to learn something Petrucci plays! He's the man!... and so is Lincoln Brewster! lol
Wow loved it. beautiful lines and not jus mindless shredding! Could give me a rundown of the equipment u use? Love ur tone and wud greatly appreciate it!:)
God Bless!
sweet vid, glad to see your back, i have 2 questions
1. how many guitars do you have and what are they
2. do you think that maybe possibly you could do a cover of sacrificed sons by dream theater?
I'm guessing he was the only one that didn't use a Pod to record this. His tone kills!!!
Great bro! i love it! sounds Lincoln....
Awesome!!
Great job, dude! You deserved it!
That was incredible. I need to figure out how to match that tone with the gear I have, because I play lead guitar for my church and my tone sounds kind of boring...
Killer job man!!! Like the devil horns at the end...lol was that pre-recorded?
Top notch!!
Fantastico!!!
Thanks, glad you liked it! If you like this a lot, you can check out some of my original works in the links I put. :)
Awesome
Nice
great cover...wow :D
gee sweet tone and solo :O
And yeah... you're probably OVER 9000 NOW!
great solo bro! praise God!
Of course the winner was played on a John Petrucci guitar. The best there is just like JP
WAY WAY COOL ! !
@LostPilgram Glad I could help! :)
Awesome playing,praise the Lord!
Great ! Job ! Congrad !
YOU WON
it takes team work.
woops my bad. saw it in the description. Thnx:)
He has a cover of let the praises ring on his other youtube account.
Handsome and talent! Wow very rare! keep up for the "Glory" of God!
@GuitarMusicTheoryTab I think I had my fair share of painful faces too! :) Haha, but I'm enjoying it every second believe me!
A dislike??? What is there to dislike?
A little sharp on the big "22nd fret" note, but by far the best tone & copy of the solo I've heard/seen thus far. Kudos. Oh, and shave teh 'stache peach fuzz. ;)
@ 0:36
what is that sign?
anyway perfectly done!
AmAZING
awesome man just fucking great
ey hombre tocas excelente!! :) de donde eres?
Genmills: this sounds great! where are you originally from?
Nice JPMM!
Hey I love your tone!! If you could PLEASE tell me your settings on your roadster amp head and the carbon copy!!! This is flawless!!!
Nice playing dude !!
Is your hair for real ??
hahaha nice hair man!!
sweet solo
@JustShred015 Haha, nice! Good cover you have, too, by the way. I think fewer people attempted the original solo because it was too hard... or maybe we are doorknobs and aren't creative enough to make our own... :)
teach me!!!!
wow. keep it up!
By the way, how do you like your Ernie Ball Musicman JP6? I was thinking of getting the standard model with the piezo since the BFR is a bit pricey. :/
i used the same intro :) Windows Movie Maker ftw.
Oh snap its the guitarist from oh sleeper
This guy has some real talent; I wonder if he’ll ever play the whole song some day; or more importantly play for the Lord some day?
I'm doing our church's Christmas service this Sunday 😉
