Now you've made me dizzy again, Gary! Not from the pattern but from the geometry and mostly from how you even conceive these beautiful masterpieces! Even if I had a pile of segments in front of me and a pattern to go by, I wouldn't be able to assemble them. You are the segment master for sure AND have the gift of being able to explain what you are doing! 50 years from now when we are gone there is going to be a whole new group of segment turners, thanks to you! Great job, professor! 😊 Phil
Well thank you Phil. I suppose it does seem easy to me but I spend a lot of time making sure it will work. And it is in my blood so that is all I can say. Be careful I may send you a box of segments to play with and see what happens LOL. I just love doing any kind of wood turning and hoping this will caring on. Just like you do and as a matter or fact in a few weeks you will see something that people will say it has Phil written all over it and it does. Thank you my friend and till the next time...see ya later, Gary
You sir are a true artist. I already subscribe to lies channel. You are a mentor to me. I would like you to make the video on. Ot needing geometry. Thank you for sharing your incredible turnings.
Thanks so much Richard. I appreciate your comments. I have been working on the simple way and will have something put together in a few weeks I hope. Thanks for watching, Gary
I'm still shaking my head Gary.. I would love to see how to make it.. I watch Louie and I think he is great also. Stay cool 😎 and keep them coming. I hope I see you on the next one
Good evening, Gary. "I can see Red White and Blue and that's good enough for me." 🇺🇲 Excellent! Your project had me in suspense. Absolutely perfect. Thanks for showing the first coat of lacquer. Man, that brought it to life. I would surely enjoy trying to make one of these as well. Very nice, Gary.
Thank you Ray and I was sure you would understand the colors I favor. I will have something soon that should be very easy to do. Take care my friend, Gary
Thank you very much Dave. Follow up for this is coming and I think I took most of the heavy geometry out of it. I suppose it is still there but not many will notice. Take care, Gary
276th LOL, You really surpassed yourself on this one Gary. Luie is such a kind and generous person. I would love to see the simple way of this being done. Take care my friend. Hwyl, Huw
That is so so cool! You made the most out of that cracked up piece of Osage 👍 that illusion is so very cool. I think you should make a video on how to do it👍 Thank you so much for mentioning me!!!
Well thank you Luie! I was waiting for the right piece of wood to use and all this time it was sitting under one of my benches. I think it was the perfect place for the Osage Orange. I was actually fun trying to get all the pieces out of it. Had me a little worried because had I messed up one segment I was up that creek as they say. And I really did not want to go more than the two rows just because I wanted the illusion to really stand out. I sure appreciate you sending me this piece as I know when you turned yours you really loved the wood. I have all the details worked out for the video and it got even easier as I was doing it. When I show how to make the pattern I will reveal another thing that will make it like falling off a log. Maybe even a log of Osage Orange LOL. Take care, Gary
Papa, Beautiful. Just improbably beautiful! I have a soft spot in my little black heart for videos that make me smile. My current smile is a full on ear to ear grin 😋. Thank you. Keep the aspidistra flying! God bless, Paul
Well thank you Paul. I probably do not smile enough but that is another story. But I sure got a good smile from your comment. Thanks for that and thanks for watching, Gary
Osage Orange, Bois d'arc, Maclura pomifera is one of my favorite woods. Yes, I have many favorite woods. Haha. It grows well here in Central Texas. Many beautiful things can be made with it. I have made beads and pendants out of it. It polishes like stone. It also eats chainsaw chains. Haha The thorns on the tree will remove parts of your body quite easily. The fruit looks like a softball sized green brain and can be thrown, but then your hands will be very sticky. Old ranchers here used to keep a Bois d'arc stick in their trucks for when they work working cattle and needed a prod. Some ranchers lined their fence rows with the trees to encourage the cattle to stay on the property. I think your project is awesome.
Thank you Travis and very interesting information on the tree. All I can say is I am sure glad it was a block of wood he sent and not the tree LOL. Thanks for watching, Gary
Thanks so much Bob! It was sure easier than some of the others. I spent a few minutes this morning on the future video on this. I wanted to walk through the steps to be sure it is easy to understand. And that it will work on what ever size is made. So I will try and do something in a few weeks or so. Take care my friend, Gary
Thank you Chris. For sure it is the right choice of wood for making an illusion. Not matter how well they fit the shadowing effect is what it is all about. I just love doing these. It is like the magic tricks I always wanted to learn as a kid. Thanks for watching, Gary

Great looking piece. I would love to see a demo video of making this shape. I Think i'll have to chase up the video of making the sled as well. As always thanks heaps for sharing your videos with us Gary. Cheers Bruce
Thank you Bruce. I have the video in the works and I plan on mentioning what you will need for a sled. Or what I use and the only thing I would use. See you soon, Gary
Gary, you can definitely say you were spinning an illusion. Beautifully done. And "yes please" for the ez segments video. Your work is always inspiring.
Incredible!!! Only way this could be improved is those cookies you mentioned - of course you'd have to eat them all to view the bottom. I'm sure that instructional video you mentioned would be welcomed by many of us viewers. Thanks so much for this. I enjoy your segmented turning videos the most.
Thanks so much Jim. Having a birthday party here tomorrow and maybe some cookies or zucchini bread might find a temporary home in it. Thanks for watching, Gary
Being Scottish I'd have melted at that temperature!! I was so intent on you gluing the illusion bits together that I completely forgot that this was a woodturning video ... sooo looking forward to seeing what the end result is 😁 Just stunning and the colour change of the wood as you rotate it adds to the overall result ... absolutely fantastic (as usual) 👍
Thank you very much Barry and happy you got to the end. I really like the piece a lot. Was so lucky to get that piece of Osage Orange from Luie. Take care, Gary
Your illusion videos are just beyond amazing Gary. I would definitely be interested in seeing a video on how to make this cube. Do not understand geometry at all so I’m hoping that you can show us all how it is done. Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍👍👍.
Thanks so much Scott. The reason I am excited about doing the follow up is just for the reason you stated. If you know how to connect dots you will love this video. It may sound technical but ignore that and you will be fine. I just need to explain some cool things LOL. Take care, Gary

Thank you very much. Wedgie sleds really help with that. And I added a special location just for cutting the 30 degree angle since I use it a lot. Thanks for watching, Gary
Thank you Craig. I do love geometry and I remember when I first found the tangent button on the latest calculator. Sure made my job a lot easier. Thanks for watching, Gary
That is fantastic! Your quick removal of the 12 segment template helped me understand how you positioned your segment cutting jig angles. That makes much more sense then setting the front and back faces separately. Oh, at first I thought you were going full 3D and make one of your “bowl from a board”. Maybe it will be your next one!
Thank you very much Lee. I think do a BFB with this shape would distort the illusion and give it kind of a cartoon look. I have a dizzy bowl that when the blocks reach the side they are really stretched out. Looks ok but just not sure I would like it here. But who knows maybe someday. Thanks for watching, Gary
Thank you Luie...what a great gift. It really turned out great Gary. I'm assuming that your shop has a low roof. Not that 104 is cold but a high ceiling would help. Love the bowl/serving tray.
Thank you Rick. Well my head does not hit the celling but I can not fit a basket ball hoop in here. I suppose I could raise it up but then I would loose storage space. These temperatures are not normal for us but maybe they are going to be made the normal. I suppose the positive side is a lower room is easier to heat than a taller one. But the good thing is I can go inside to cool off or warm up LOL. Thanks for watching, Gary
Very cool, Gary. If one were to turn the out bottom, what would happen to the illusion? I'd like to see the additional video you talked about. Good stuff & keep it coming. Thanks.
Thank you Louis. It would look interesting but it might distort the illusion. Some of the pieces would get wider looking. Mostly along the outer section. But it might be pretty cool looking. Thanks for watching, Gary
Thank you very much Joey. It is amazing how light can change the look of everything. And here we get to do it with different shades of wood. I love doing this for sure. Thanks for watching, Gary

Gary, Fantastic project with great results! I am amazed with all of your ventures in geometric illusions. I would love to see the particulars of this latest project. Please keep them coming!
Wow! Looking at the end product, there is no way that is not a 3 dimensional object. Your illusion projects are always a joy to watch and to see how they come together. Would love to see your video on laying something like this out.
Gary, that is an awesome piece! You are a brilliant craftsman. The choice of woods you used was perfect. I would much enjoy and appreciate a simplified video on how to do that with limited math skills. Again that is amazing. Thank you for the great video! Try to stay cool in the heat wave. Glenn
Thanks so much Glen. So there will be no geometry to speak of. (It will be there but you will not know it or need to) but a calculator might be called upon and a pencil to write down some dimensions. The rest will be up to you to set you sled or fixture up to make the cuts. Easy money! I am getting real excited about doing this and I have a few weeks where I can work on it. I just want to make it real easy to understand. I know I have issues understanding where others may not(too many years of working to close tolerances) But I will get it worked out soon. Thanks for watching, Gary
Wow that turned out really nice. The contrast of the Osage Orange with the other woods really makes the cube float. I would be interested to learn how to design this pattern. Thanks!
Wow! That's absolutely gorgeous ❤ I have quilting magazines that have som pretty amazing patterns that would work for segmented turning! Maybe someday I'll try them! Heather
Thank you Heather. That is what got me interested in doing these. Seeing some of the amazing quilts being made. Now me making a quilt would be another story. It might look better just as a ball of yarn LOL Thanks for watching, Gary
Thank you so much Barry. Sorry but one a week has be scrambling LOL. I actually had a simple one ready for today but decided to run this one as I finished it last night. Now today i finished another but I will do the one I was going to do today. If you got all that congratulations because now I am confused LOL. Anyway thanks for your comments and thanks for watching, Gary
Thank you Bill. It was a lot of fun to do. And I have another I want to do that will take odd cuts and it will be a bigger challenge but I want to do it. Take care, Gary
Thanks so much Tom. It is 93 right now and we are having a birthday party for my wife tomorrow and it is supposed to reach 94. This morning we had a really bad thunder storm but that went fast. Just got home from ordering the food. No cooking for this guy tomorrow. Thanks for watching, Gary
Thank you very much. I have it all worked out now I just need to figure out the best way to present the information so it makes sense but it will be coming soon. Take care, Gary
Thank up Todd. I have to say the Osage Orange brought it all to life. I knew when I put the fist triangle in place it was going to be a perfect look. The video on how it is done is coming soon. Take care my friend, Gary
Not only is it beautiful, it’s mind bending. I would enjoy seeing the video on how to make it. You are the master of your craft and a true joy to watch. Keep up the great work.
Gary, another fantastic and amazing video. Your 3D projection is perfect along with the beautiful wood selection. I would be very interested in a video of how to make a 3D projection.
Thanks so much Kent and I will be doing one real soon. Not sure if it should be a Friday video or just a bonus. Depends how long of a video it ends up. Take care, Gary

Beautiful job, again, Gary. My wife(the quilter) even watched this video. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Ron. I admire the quilting people and would probably love doing it. Just not sure how good I would be at it.

Thank you very much Dave. Follow up for this is coming and I think I took most of the heavy geometry out of it. I suppose it is still there but not many will notice.
Take care,

Gary I think that is your best segmented illusion yet.
Well thank you Bryon. I do like it and sometimes less can be more. This is easier to see the illusion than some.
Thanks for watching,

You really surpassed yourself on this one Gary.

Thank you Carol and it has been decided I will do the video. But I decided that 3 days ago.
Thanks for watching,
Gary

Thanks so much Ross. I have stumbled on 2 more that I will want to do.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Wow! Looking at the end product, there is no way that is not a 3 dimensional object. Your illusion projects are always a joy to watch and to see how they come together. Would love to see your video on laying something like this out.
Thank you very much Mark. I have most of it worked out and will try and get something posted in a couple of weeks.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
This is a beautiful piece!
Thanks so much Vernon and thanks for watching,

Im just in absolute awe , the amount of work , time and skill , i cant get over it , Gary ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you very much Vini I appreciate your comments and thanks for watching,
Gary
I know I have issues understanding where others may not(too many years of working to close tolerances)
But I will get it worked out soon.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Wow that turned out really nice. The contrast of the Osage Orange with the other woods really makes the cube float. I would be interested to learn how to design this pattern.
Thanks!
Thanks so much Greg. The follow up to this is in the works.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
It might look better just as a ball of yarn LOL
Thanks for watching,
Gary

In a word...Outstanding!! That may be up there with the best you've done. I for one would love to see a video on how to make that illusion easily.
Thank up Todd. I have to say the Osage Orange brought it all to life. I knew when I put the fist triangle in place it was going to be a perfect look.

Take care,
Gary
