Ena not lying but I kinda destroyed them in 1 minute with just a bow and the same arrows and no fire just a lot of hard point arrows so yeah btw you can instantly kill them there's a video to do it
+TheGamingTroodon you would have to have been on easy or even story difficulty for that. Just using hard point arrows would take 50+ even if you hit in weak spots on harder difficulty. (P.s nice name. (And I'm being serious XD) )
I finally gave up trying to fight and dodge, and just retreated to just past the little bridge near the campfire in the area. They will just park themselves and periodically emerge from underground and spit rocks at you. You can hide behind a rock to avoid that, then pop out and hit them with fire arrows, tearblast arrows, and hard point arrows. It takes a long time, but it worked.
The best way to kill a rockbreaker is to have the high ground where they cant reach you (you don't have to have this) Tearblast its feet and hands to prevent it from going underground. from here on out it will just wiggle about and do no harm, at that point hit its rear exhaust port multiple times with Precision arrows or any arrow with high damage. this will take about 3-4 minutes
Another tactic you can use is to run to the other side of the river. They can't cross it for some reason so then you can just bomb them with arrows and safely kill them.
If anyone has trouble with this on Ultra difficulty, you can kill 2 Ravagers near by and take their cannons over near the outside section of the circle, freeze the rockbreakers and then use each Ravager cannon to kill them while near the piller towards the campfire. The piller can block against rock throws.
the rockbreakers rely off of sound so laying out 15 blast wire would help. once you lay those out then shoot an arrow in the blast wire and they come running and you'll see what happens next. this can also work for all of the robots but use a different strategy for most them
It's a year late, but I found the best way to fight the rockbreakers is to jump up to the top of the giant rock formation in the middle of the area (visible at 2:18), which the rockbreakers can't access. From there, you can either chip away at them by using tear arrows, or shoot one of them with corruption arrows so that they begin to fight each other, cutting the difficulty of your task in half.
Something I do in this game to do large amounts of single target damage is to tied down whatever I'm killing freeze them and then gun them down with shadow rattler with High tear mods and damage on it hitting crits constantly works wonders
Best way to fight rockbreaker Toe-To-Toe, Shadow War Bow (40% n above modification ice damage x3), Hunter Lodge Sling (40% and above modification damage x3), 2xShadow Hunter Bow (40% and above modification damage x3). Here's why, 1.Fighting against this require fast movement both feet and hand (agility n quick reflect), you need to dodge quickly and at the same time hit with an arrow 2.Rockbreaker can sense the movement on the surface and very fast in moving from one terrain to another(with exception water area). My tactics based on weapon above; 1.get 3 ice arrow and 3 hard arrow ready. 2. (Optional: add trap, any kind of trap preferably that have huge damage, again since this Toe-To-Toe fight, i recommend you just leave this one, since u want to test your skill). 3.Hit it with ice arrow(rockbreaker will quickly get frozen status, use the hard point arrow to hit the rockbreaker on his belly or any detachable part but best is of course on his belly, quickly change to another hunter bow hit it, then change to ur sling and throw explosive. 4. By this time the frozen status will deminish, so go back to ur war bow and hit it with ice(till frozen), then repeat using hunter bow (suggest to not pile up the arrow, since reloading is much faster then piling up to 3 arrow). 5.Do it until rockbreaker eventually destroy. 6. Enjoy fast pace battle, collect loot. Again this is for someone who want to test skill not getting 1 hit kill and want to try in very hard mode. For me very hard mode arent really that hard. Still didnt want it to be Dark Soul(git gud).
You can semi-cheese these guys by booking it to the big rocky hill in the center. Climb the tallest one with the double arches. The only way they can damage you while you are up there is by slinging rocks. Equip the most range defensive armor you have (no need to wear stealth armor for this fight since you are out of reach). Then you can simply hit them with freeze arrows and then use blast bombs (sticky won't work if they head underground). You can also use your focus to help you find them when they go under.
there's actually a big mesa in the middle of that corruption zone that you can get to the top of and pick those guys off at your leisure...when they start hurling rocks, you can hunker down on one side or the other and be safe
I encountered them while passing by “Australia” of HZD for my first ever play through and I was already scared the fuck out As I had to pass the river with them on one side and snapmaws on the other and I only had the Nora hunter bow yet I tried to Attack the rockbreakers thinking that it would be easy It ended with me on 5hp and two dead snapmaws and rockbreakers launching boulders at me
There is an area with behemoths if you keep following the road. Run there and make one chase you back to the site. That will start a war between the rock crushers and the behemoth. Once that war start you pick them off one by one. The behemoth took both of them down as to where like 10 hard point arrows killed both and the behemoth was so wounded he was limping. Few more hard points and he was down. 3 huge machines with little work done.
This was actually so easy for me. I just used 3 long bow shots on his weak point on their stomach. It takes over half their health away when you hit it and it explodes. It makes these guys so much easier to fight

my girlfriend has been watching me play the game. first it was the thunderjaw she was impressed with. she loved that you can shot off the cannons then use them. Then we took on a stormbird. first time was a 10 min battle. she said she was exhausted just watching me. and Finally I fought these two dicks! my girl was yelling and screaming instructions the whole time. it was awesome seeing her get that much into it!
Met these two Corrupted Rockbreakers for the first time earlier. Couldn't take their limbs and other breakable parts the first three times. Then I stumbled upon some Snapmaw and Ravagers (2) nearby and what would any good hunter does? Use the Ravager's cannons to beat the hell out of them lmao. And it's nice to actually discover people did the same thing.
I didnt do this on hardest difficulty but i still had a hard time i was sure i wasnt gonna make it when a random behemoth got involved and started attacking the second rockbreaker for me weakening it i got very lucky there
if you want to take them down from a distance then you can attract their attention and then run to the river North of the area and cross it. they can't cross it, but will attempt to take you down from accross the river
Same tactic with all Rockbreakers. Get somewhere high, freeze and leather with damage, or this one in particular be on the other side of the river and do the same thing.

I just went on the highest spot of that big rock and shot freeze arrows and hunter arrows from there. Their melee attacks can't reach there, they can only throw rocks at me which get blocked by my shield-weaver armor.
There are shell walker and snapmaw site nearby along with a behemoth route. So basically all I did lure was all the machines, hide in the grass and watched the show.
The way I dealt with them is I loaded three precision arrows and targeted the tank of green goo on the side before they knew I was there and that blew it up, as it tried to submerge I activated concentration and hit the exhaust port for more damage, after that it went down with like three regular shots. The other one I killed kinda the same, I aimed for goo first for massive damage and then froze/ precision arrowed it to death. Also I didn't know that the Handling stat increase rate of fire so that news to me.
I've been using a - freeze bomb until it gets frozen and then pull out my rattler and shooting the fuel sac which is turning nice for me and btw on normal mode not very hard ( I suck lol ) and that's it to kill both of them on normal
As much fun as rolling around nonstop is... At the center of that corrupted zone there is a rock formation, if you climb to the top they cannot melee you and you can line of sight their ranged attacks. Seemed like a way more effective and safe way of killing this corrupted zone.
Morning one of the comments in here refers to how much healing Jor does during these "hard fights". Why not utilize a clear tactical advantage over giant robots as a mere small human.
If you have not done this, go and give your shadow ropecaster 3 40% or higher mods, and place down 10 to 15 traps and you'll be done in half or even a quarter of his time.
There is also an area with a rock where you can hide behind.The Rockbreackers can't enter this area. I played this on easy mode without wanting it but I think it won't change, it will take just some more time.I hope this comment can help you.

have you tried climbing on top of the rocks? in the middle of the zone, that's what i did then a behemot came along and helped me. lol. i picked them off one by one, dodging the rocks they chuck at you from time to time :D :D
I'll take a thundrrjae and stormbird at the same time over 2 rockbreakers, annoying af, try to focus on one and immediately get hit by the other only to turn around and vice versa. Their hit and run tactics are unfortunately perfect, making them the apex machine

the best way to kill them is by ropeing one , then freezing the other, roping it and using precision arrows to shoot its big plate on its tale for tonnes of damage
I just climbed on top of those huge rock boulders and froze and Sling shot away took (3x) cuz these Whales kept knocking me off the boulder at first but easiest method takes less than 3 min. now
NGL i enjoy fighting the rockbreaker than the thunderjaw, the rockbreaker is practicly a mole, the way i fight this bad bois is use the improved ice rail or when i dont have ice rail i use the sling's ice ammo then the bomb sling or the rattler for "THATS ALOTA DAMAGE" this is just my opinion or how i fight them if u guys are high level maybe around 37 i guess and find a place where u can dodge some of their atks

lol funny thing is I did this by accident yesterday. There's a small stream around that area if you stand on the other side they can't cross it. It was too easy
Was fairly easy to me, beat it on my first try, I completely owned every enemy in this beautiful game. Made sure to go into each battle prepared. Also, if you can't handle a harder enemy try using the tear blaster or tear blast arrows to knock off important pieces. Freezing enemies that are weak against Ice damage then using your Blast Bombs and or Sharpshooter Arrows to stack damage is another successful way of making fights easier. Aways use other weapons once an enemy is fully under your elemental damage.
i killed it at first try i just hid beneath rocky pass , inlet and spamed fire arrows, dodget rocks and thats it. Its prolly exploit but i got 3 levels instant :D
i had a really hard time trying to fight them on the ground, but then i thought about fighting them from the air and that works just fine ... just step on that high rock and shot them ... u just need to dodge some rocks-showers from time to time , but they can't 1-shot u on this rock (underground attack) xD
Actually did this fight already and I haven't reached meridian. very easy to cheese on very hard. Just stay by the save point, setup 15 blast trip wires while hidden in the grass near save point. when you want to lure em, corrupt the Snapmaws nearby, or hit em with any arrow then run past the trip wires, and dodge when they emerge. Hide, then repeat
For me the thunderjaw was more difficult. The ine with the 2 rock breakers, wasn't that difficult. Sure super annoying. I only realized there were 2 half way through the fight. (Call it what you want(I call it strats). I hid between 2 rock walls and shot blast arrows then damage arrows. And in 20 or so min(maybe less) both down. The fight when you get into the frozen wilds was harder.

I easily completed this challenge by killing ravagers near the place and using their cannons to kill the rock breakers from a distance.

lay some blast wire tripcasters down and don't make any noise until your ready to attack. you can lay 15 of them down and then finish them

The lack of fire being used here made it take longer consider the damage proc ticks even when they are underground.

I just keep running around and repeatedly call my ride, so that one would be distracted fighting it, while I deal with the other.

You can OHKO them if you explode their fuel sacks, because normally the resist fire, but corrupted are extra weak to fire

Its a lot easier to predict rock braker movements if you fight it on the edge of the zone area.

did this using range on ssharpshot bow tear targetting their flappers (4 feets) to prevent them from going underground....

The only thing that makes rockbreakers difficult, is the fact that they keep going underground, and how rare they have their shovel legs showing.

Oh and I don't get hit often... I don't heal very often either because I use the terrain to my advantage.

thunderjaw really isnt that much of a challenge imho. In terms of difficulty it probably goes ravager

have you tried climbing on top of the rocks? in the middle of the zone, that's what i did then a behemot came along and helped me. lol. i picked them off one by one, dodging the rocks they chuck at you from time to time :D :D
My trick to beat the Rockbreaker is to use the ice bombs and loads of hard point arrows while taking cover behind the rocks.
You should simply use curroption resist potion for no curroption damage
When I was battling the rockbreakers I had 4 snapmaws and a long leg join in
I'll take a thundrrjae and stormbird at the same time over 2 rockbreakers, annoying af, try to focus on one and immediately get hit by the other only to turn around and vice versa. Their hit and run tactics are unfortunately perfect, making them the apex machine
climb the small rock mountains, use slingshot blasts easy kills
So if you get them angry….then cross the River you can just snipe them from the hill side, it was a bit too easy though.

If you sit just outside there spawn zone they will be confused about where to go to fight you and they can't do the underground attack
the best way to kill them is by ropeing one , then freezing the other, roping it and using precision arrows to shoot its big plate on its tale for tonnes of damage
Easier way to beat this
1. Get the shield armor
2. Get to a high point there (they cant dig up to you then)
3.just pelt them with arrows or bombs
I can here your rage by the amount of times you click the controller to shoot frozen arrows
I just climbed on top of those huge rock boulders and froze and Sling shot away took (3x) cuz these Whales kept knocking me off the boulder at first but easiest method takes less than 3 min. now
i remember those i found them when i needed to get trophy from those sabercat looking things
i burnt them... put lots of fire arrow on them... the flame will get bigger and consume plenty ..
are you doing this in UH because i did in level 20 on normal idk if thats an achievement but idk

NGL i enjoy fighting the rockbreaker than the thunderjaw, the rockbreaker is practicly a mole, the way i fight this bad bois is use the improved ice rail or when i dont have ice rail i use the sling's ice ammo then the bomb sling or the rattler for "THATS ALOTA DAMAGE" this is just my opinion or how i fight them if u guys are high level maybe around 37 i guess and find a place where u can dodge some of their atks
This was the easiest: shoot triple sharpshot arrow to the fuel tank and 1 more to a weak spot and its dead
There's an easier way to add three arrows to your bow you press the circle and then you hit the L one button two times it'll add three arrow

When I was there they managed to kill a shell-walker convoy and a Behemoth convoy and a Ravager and 2 shell -walkers WOOOOOOOW!!!
when I did it the first one killed itself and the other a convoy behemoth came and helped me
I did this today it took me a few try's but I got them in the end with the weapon off of the machines across the river

There is a lake were some chargers and they only use my tearblast arows
Aimed a Ravenger canon at the first one' belly then trolololled the other one from a round rock formation where you can hide from his rock bombing
Just override the 2 snapmaws nearby and they pretty much beat the rockbreakers for you.
just use fire arrows and make sure you have 3 40÷ firr attack mods and it will be a breeze

lol funny thing is I did this by accident yesterday. There's a small stream around that area if you stand on the other side they can't cross it. It was too easy
That's how I could pass this challenge too. :)
Was fairly easy to me, beat it on my first try, I completely owned every enemy in this beautiful game. Made sure to go into each battle prepared.
Also, if you can't handle a harder enemy try using the tear blaster or tear blast arrows to knock off important pieces. Freezing enemies that are weak against Ice damage then using your Blast Bombs and or Sharpshooter Arrows to stack damage is another successful way of making fights easier. Aways use other weapons once an enemy is fully under your elemental damage.
I stood on the rocks and bombed them from my sling. This was the hardest challenge in the game.
i killed it at first try i just hid beneath rocky pass , inlet and spamed fire arrows, dodget rocks and thats it. Its prolly exploit but i got 3 levels instant :D
Today I learned that rockbreakers can cross rivers...most of the way. I got out of there so fast...
i had a really hard time trying to fight them on the ground, but then i thought about fighting them from the air and that works just fine ... just step on that high rock and shot them ... u just need to dodge some rocks-showers from time to time , but they can't 1-shot u on this rock (underground attack) xD
Well now the hardest challenge is the frost claw site in the frozen wilds dlc.
You should have used the tearblaster arrows on their claws
Actually did this fight already and I haven't reached meridian. very easy to cheese on very hard. Just stay by the save point, setup 15 blast trip wires while hidden in the grass near save point. when you want to lure em, corrupt the Snapmaws nearby, or hit em with any arrow then run past the trip wires, and dodge when they emerge. Hide, then repeat
try to do it of you taking them down not using other machines.

For me the thunderjaw was more difficult.
The ine with the 2 rock breakers, wasn't that difficult. Sure super annoying. I only realized there were 2 half way through the fight. (Call it what you want(I call it strats). I hid between 2 rock walls and shot blast arrows then damage arrows. And in 20 or so min(maybe less) both down. The fight when you get into the frozen wilds was harder.

No, corrupted (red aura) machines are immune to your overdrive and own corruption (green aura)
I fought with them a while ago. I just froze them and shot at their stomach. After its explosion they lose almost all hp
I outfitted my shadow hunter bow with fire mods, stood on the rocks across the river and just set them on fire.
Cheap hehe, but effective :)
