@Simon-Alexis Dubord once you get to know freeze arrow, you never go back. I ditched every other weapons (and only using hunter bow and explosive sling for damage) after I discovered how vulnerable to freeze all those robots are, with a few exceptions.
@Simon-Alexis Dubord yeah, it's better to use while in melee, but the range is too short for an ambush. the long ranged ammunition is hard to control, since it needs to be charged and it automatically shots after charging making it hard for me to aim. of course it might be just me, since I suck at aiming.
@@Qubicle. how?? Whole reason I don't use freeze arrows is because fire can do damage and last long while I assume freeze arrows will just freeze the enemy in it's place
HZD is arguably the most nuanced game I've ever played (PC gamer here). The vast array of weapons, the numerous play-styles it encourages you to try, and the strategic flexibility is amazing, not to mention that it's graphically beautiful. This video was a nice overview of how just some of the game-flexibility can play out. Thank you.
Same, I literally just jumped back in after a multi year hiatus. Didn't finish the game the first time around, so I finished it off and am currently doing the frozen wilds DLC. definitely will go back for new game + after
You can use the ropecaster for tearing of components, it does have quite high tear on it even without mods. Shot the ropecaster at the part you want torn (canister, weapon, etc.) and once the rope snaps it will tear of a part depending on how high the tear is on the ropecaster
Oh, so that's how this works (only after the ropes snap)! :O Initially I tried to use it this way and was wondering why it wasn't tearing anything off - probably because I was usually killing the machines before that... xD
Surprised you didn’t mention the sticky bombs on the blast sling. They take a good ~5 seconds to explode, which gives you time to load up about 7-8 bombs on a ropecasted enemy, and then you can watch as they all explode one after another in unison in a blaze of glory. It’s immensely satisfying, and you can add in freeze for that extra punch.
@@BoomstickGaming Ah, yeah I see what you mean. I overlooked them on my first playthrough in favor of the regular explode-on-impact ones, but once I realized that with handling mods, I can just run up point blank and quickfire lob (not charging up the aiming arc) as many stickies as possible, I played the entirety of NG+ Ultra Hard like that lol.
@@rvantong I just mean like instead of charging up the torque on the sling, just release immediately at the lowest power. You can aim high if you're at some distance, but if you're point blank you can stick a bunch before they start blowing up.
i love that combo too. despite it being incredibly resource intense. but thats how i got over my fear of the bigger machines like thunderjaw and stormbird. nothing more satisfying and sitting back and watching them blow up in seconds. the one thing that still gives me issues is the rockbreaker. he seems to regularly burrow underground after being completely tied down by the ropecaster, cancelling out the ropes and being able to freely move again. havent found a way yet to properly deal with them. Not sure if them burrowing while being tied down, is intended or a bug.
Still playing this game after two years! I platinumed it last year and still cant get enough. Waiting eagerly for Forbidden West gameplay trailers and also i just got the amazing armor set your Aloy is wearing
Just like you I also fell in love with it too. I fell in love with it even more when I unlocked the zeta override for the thunderjaw. I got my first thunderjaw as an ally and God it felt so satisfying watching it destroy all the other ravagers, watchers and another thunderjaw(yes two thunderjaw spawned at once. I don't know if it's rare). I just wish you could ride every monster in the game. It could have been a sick addition.
The complete edition was gifted to me a few weeks back. Playing for the first time and loving it. I went to the frozen lands right after getting into the open world and it's been so much fun to fight crazy strong creatures.
Just replaying horizon and still amazed at how good it looks and plays. One tip I have is you can nock 3 freeze arrows then switch to another bow, then when you come up against a tough enemy load up 3 power arrows switch back to your freeze arrows fire them freeze the enemy then switch back to your 3 power arrows and fire them for an instant kill 90% of the time.
I did this for most of my play through. Had 3 frost arrows knocked, switch to the other bow for fire arrows, switch to a third to knock 3 of the heavy arrows and then start each fight with shock ropes
Did this with a rockbreaker. I was running towards it while shooting and changing preloaded bows and it died before I could get anywhere near it! haha!
the MOST important of everything: the last tip. U can aim+add arrow fast and then roll, this lets you to keep rolling and adding arrows, bascially cancelling the recovery of the roll with the charge arrow motion and then canceling the charging with another roll.
I'm on PC playing on keyboard and mouse so I don't really get what he did to do fast adding arrows. Can you explain what exactly are the steps to do fast adding arrows? Or better if you can share a video to explain this in more details. I can't seem to find any video about this.

Great tips. Just got my PS5 and saw this on free download so just started playing for the first time, beautiful game and so smooth on the 5. Just arrived at Meridian so purple weapons are go!!
Damnnnn I love how you use totally different tools. I played this a year ago and the main thing I used was the war bow to freeze the enemy for crazy damage and than hunter bow or blast sling with massive damage mods or a sharp shot with high tear to knock of dangerous components. You should also try the ice rail, the ice cannon with damage and ice mods is so much fun to play around with! Edit: try the ratler with freeze mods, not as good as the war bow but from close quite effective and tons of fun.
Playing in Ultra Hard really forces you to start using all of your options. Any other difficulty and it's just spam the hard point arrows, maybe tearblast arrows to start, but still not all that difficult. Love this guide to show the potential power of these weapons
IMO the OP loadout is slingshot or champion bow freeze modded fully, and a full damage + handling sharpshot bow. Chillwater is EVERYWHERE and the triple damage from that saves tons on wire. Which in ultra hard is super important to keep full stock of. The banuk weapons in Frozen wilds are super good but they eat up sooooo many resources they should be used rly only for fire, frostclaws and scorchers when needed. Ropecaster and tripcaster are similar, extremely useful but eat wire like crazy. Ive found freezing then precision shots are the best way to commit the most damage with the least amount of resources used. Also found this is the fastest way to farm shards killing thunderjaws so you can obtain the expensive NG+ ultra hard weapons n outfits.
i absolutely love the rope caster. a massive game changer for me. i used to be scared of those giant machines and would avoid them most of the time. the rope caster made it feel like those machines are just like watchers.
I get excited when I see the giant machines, especially the Thunderjaw. Tearing up its disc launcher with high tear arrows, then blasting it away to oblivion with its own weapon...so satisfying. There are so many ways to fight these machines, many different playstyle depending on the individual.
You can load up to 15 mines from the tripcaster, instantly destroying almost any machine in the game with the explosive mines. Only thing that could survive is a fireclaw and that thing is for the dlc endgame.

I would love a top something list but rated by cost effectiveness considered. The frozen wild elemental weapons eat so much resources that I don't even use them often.
I enjoy triple shot hardpoint arrows the most, fired from Banuk Striker Bow, with triple ultra damage modifiers added. Works against everything equally, bosses and herds alike, mows down everything. Fastest firing, cheapest crafting, silent when firing and when impacting, hits with swag, deadly as it pierces, and sure with the extra draw from the Banuk bow. One x3 strike kills a Glinthawk/scrapper, three x3 kills a sawtooth, five 3x kills a stormbird, six x3 kills a thunderjaw. Switching ammo in stealth is good, but once the rush begins, I hate to switch ammo and stay on something strong and abundant, like the hardpoint arrow. Problem with some of the special ammos is their crafting cost, which does not allow you an unending rampage with them.
I finished the main game, now I'm playing Frozen Wilds, almost finishing as well, collecting all the collectables, all side quests, exploring, taking pictures, this game was really good
I just started playing three days ago. Purely for the story, I play it on the easiest mode. Once I have mastered the controls then I play it on a more difficult level. The better I get the harder level I do.. But even at the easiest level, there's quite a lot you need to remember in order to play tactically. And I must say that I don't have patience for everything to always play / upgrade tactically. The more I learn about the gameplay and the more I manage to level up tactically. The more I enjoy the game.
I’ve been playing horizon zero Dawn with the frozen wilds addon for the last month. It’s one of the titles I never tried before and when my kids got me a PlayStation gift card for my birthday I decided to check it out. I’m glad I did. It’s an awesome game.
Playing for the first time! I'm currently at Thunder's drum and was looking to find the best weapons to spend my blue gleam on. This video was on point! Thank you
Great video -- many thanks. Playing for the first time! Having a wonderful time and looking forward to putting your tips to good use. Thank you for the tangible and actionable tips.
a few things id like to add just for some extra tips! -the icerail is extremely effective at dealing high damage "sniper" attacks on weak or exposed areas of enemies, I can usually deal 1,400+ damage per shot on a Thunderjaw after inflicting frost on them. The problem with the weapon though is if you hit an armored section on the enemy, it deals extremely little (40 or so) damage. this can be easily mitigated by just blowing a hole in the side of an enemy, backing up, and landing that cannon shot right in their side to take out a good 1/4 or so of their health. Or of course by targeting canisters or similar -the skills that allow one to notch more than one arrow at a time can be used to inflict a massive amount of status effect, and can be prepared beforehand. this can be done by aiming the bow and reloading to the 2 or 3 arrows, and keeping it on the side until facing a powerful enemy.
Tripcaster is a great offensive and defensive tool.. Being ganked by enemies, lay traps let them come to you. Chasing enemies or multiple enemies, fire the traps whilst rolling. I used it a lot in Ultra Hard mode.
I just built my very first PC and Horizon Zero dawn was the first game I installed! Never had a playstation before, I was playing on XBOX so I've never been able to enjoy this game, ever! I know I'm about 5 years late, but this is still an amazing game! Can't wait for the sequel :P
I bought horizon back in a days for my PS4 but had no time playing it. Now I'm playing it on my PS5 and it's amazing....like the best game I've ever played I guess? I'm almost done with it and then straight to playing first time Ghost of Tsushima ( updated to ps5). Woooh.....what a year
Started playing a couple of months ago, bought the DVD. Wish I had checked out these utoob tips, but now can improve. I don't like "running and gunning" and prefer to take in the awesome scenery. Next to that, though, I really like taking down the machines. Good vid, saved to my HZD playlist. Cheers.
I'm on my first every playthrough, enjoying how easy it is to over-level lol. I haven't found any of these weapons yet but now I'm definitely going to be looking for them Honestly it's just good to know I won't be stuck forever with the same garbage bows I have now
i have over 250 hours on this game maxing out everything possible playing through this game 13 times and completing it 100% 4 times. And now when this dude reminded me of the shadow war bow using corruption arrows, I felt like some idiot. I literally used that bow 2 times. now im def starting to use it again seeing how powerful it actually is.
Im here for nostalgia since its now free. It will be so easy to get these new weapons since I grinded the game for 147 hours in 2017 getting to level 60 gold.
My go-to set was always, warbow, hunterbow, sharpshot bow, and blast sling. Warbow and hunter bow to blow up canisters, sharpshot for tearblast arrows when fighting enemies with guns and harvest arrows when farming resources, and blast sling for raw damage when freezing large enemies. Though, sometimes I like to use the tearblaster (wind shotgun) in close quarters to take off guns to use. the frozen wilds weapons are powerful, but their ammo is so expensive.
😃 Cool video man, thanks for the video info! Barely got back @ playing Horizon Zero Dawn on my PS4, starting off slow, but I'm definitely enjoying the experience.

You can load up to 15 mines from the tripcaster, instantly destroying almost any machine in the game with the explosive mines. Only thing that could survive is a fireclaw and that thing is for the dlc endgame.
Yeah but you can cut that down by freezing the machine and you will save resources by doing that
Not any thing. I've tried that on just one Deamonic Scorcher and it shrugged it off and slashed the life outta me 💀💀
depends on difficulty and equipped weapon mods
Got it a few days ago for PC and hope the second part also gets a PC release:)
Do you have any shimmering on vegetation, anti aliasing issues on grass?
@@kavooridivakar1855 No my game is fine, maybe issues with GPU driver(newest driver/reinstall drivers)? did you wait for the sharders to install? or maybe your settings are too high for your setup?
@@Jokersknife my laptop has i7 10th gen cpu and nvidia rtx 3060, 16 gb ram and ssd, even after turning everything to ultra almost 2 gb of vram is left empty, why is the grass shimmering? I can notice it's low lod
My brother turned me onto this game a few weeks ago. Kinda got addicted to it now. I know what you mean by using the tripcaster offensively. Done it accidentally but now am doing it on purpose. There are some very good tips I did not know about!! Thanks!!
Fun fact about corruption arrows:
They work on humans too.
Freeze and Hard point arrows. I feel like a wrecking ball with them
Freeze and blast slingshot. Or trip caster if they are on the larger end of bots.
Good timing to say the least
In the late game and DLC I found the explosive slingshot invaluable
I would love a top something list but rated by cost effectiveness considered. The frozen wild elemental weapons eat so much resources that I don't even use them often.
Thats the reason I'm not using the ropecaster too often.
That thing eats through ur wire supply rather quickly.
@@Legendendear huh.. I have never had that problem
Where you unusually use your rope caster?
First time play horizon zero down
Thanks for not making videos longer than necessary!
welcome!
Nothing is better than overriding a storm bird you’ll forget he’s there but the first time something sees you it’ll get shot from the sky
First time playing. I just got past the proving. Looking forward to exploring this game!
First time player, glad to see that the tripcaster is as valued by others as it is by me!
I’ve been playing horizon zero Dawn with the frozen wilds addon for the last month. It’s one of the titles I never tried before and when my kids got me a PlayStation gift card for my birthday I decided to check it out. I’m glad I did. It’s an awesome game.
Great video, thanks!
😃
Playing for the first time!
I'm currently at Thunder's drum and was looking to find the best weapons to spend my blue gleam on.
This video was on point! Thank you
That ending frame is awesome. Well done, Alex
I am on my third playthrough and I would never figure the weapons/armor build buffs on my own in 100 years. Thanks for sharing!
Or of course by targeting canisters or similar
-the skills that allow one to notch more than one arrow at a time can be used to inflict a massive amount of status effect, and can be prepared beforehand. this can be done by aiming the bow and reloading to the 2 or 3 arrows, and keeping it on the side until facing a powerful enemy.
Tripcaster is a great offensive and defensive tool.. Being ganked by enemies, lay traps let them come to you. Chasing enemies or multiple enemies, fire the traps whilst rolling.
I used it a lot in Ultra Hard mode.
that corruption arrow is so much fun, shoot couples to thunder jaw while on the bush, sit back grab some pop corn and enjoy some mayhem
I just built my very first PC and Horizon Zero dawn was the first game I installed! Never had a playstation before, I was playing on XBOX so I've never been able to enjoy this game, ever! I know I'm about 5 years late, but this is still an amazing game! Can't wait for the sequel :P
Nice guide! Btw, what soundtrack are you using? It's actually rlly good!
I really want to play this again but with the sequel coming out this year I think imma wait.
You should play it for the story. Its free til may 15th if you have Playstation
Picked Horizon up for the first time in 2024, it's beautiful 🥹
SAME 😌💘
I bought horizon back in a days for my PS4 but had no time playing it. Now I'm playing it on my PS5 and it's amazing....like the best game I've ever played I guess? I'm almost done with it and then straight to playing first time Ghost of Tsushima ( updated to ps5). Woooh.....what a year
Thank you 😳
@Kepler 186-F i know u..
@Kepler 186-F hi it's me ur brother
Actually got it on sale on STEAM, so finally able to play without having to buy a while console.
will try
Love this game
Just started playing Horizon and this video gives me a lot of prospective
Started playing a couple of months ago, bought the DVD. Wish I had checked out these utoob tips, but now can improve. I don't like "running and gunning" and prefer to take in the awesome scenery. Next to that, though, I really like taking down the machines.
Good vid, saved to my HZD playlist. Cheers.
I just got a ps5 and picked this game up so I can play part 2 after and so far im loving this game, thanks for those tips.
I'm on my first every playthrough, enjoying how easy it is to over-level lol. I haven't found any of these weapons yet but now I'm definitely going to be looking for them
Honestly it's just good to know I won't be stuck forever with the same garbage bows I have now
The tripcaster was mind blowing. Thanks
First time playing this game and I’m at level 31, still feels like I’m in early game mode. Those tips will come in handy, thanks.
ty
i have over 250 hours on this game maxing out everything possible playing through this game 13 times and completing it 100% 4 times. And now when this dude reminded me of the shadow war bow using corruption arrows, I felt like some idiot. I literally used that bow 2 times. now im def starting to use it again seeing how powerful it actually is.
I platinumed the game when it first came out and then stopped after NG+. Came back now to try out the dlc. Game is still damn good fun it aged well
You are really good at this i loved the way you have tripcaster a use instead of laying traps it was direct attack
These are very useful! I got the game recently half off on PC
awesome
0:17 was so cool😂🔥.so bad i lost it and i can't try it😭
😃 Cool video man, thanks for the video info! Barely got back @ playing Horizon Zero Dawn on my PS4, starting off slow, but I'm definitely enjoying the experience.
using tripcaster in the middle of a battle feels like such a pro start
Awesome video. Straight to the point. Thank you and keep up the good work!
Playing for the first time here. Thank you for the tips!
"Sideproject to Unreal Tournament" lol
Played it in the beginning of 2017 but never realised that I never finished it.
