    Everyone's food looked amazing! The Earl Grey tea with cream and sugar sounds interesting. It's also cool to see that adults can order from the kids menu, but the fish and chips would be a must here. I (Brent) formerly taught World History, U.S. Government, and Sociology for 10 years so I really appreciated you covering some of the historical and cultural aspects of the restaurant as well. Excellent video!

    Another fun video and a new place to add to the list. We really appreciated the commentary at the end as well, seeing the noose outside the pub would definitely have given us pause without the full context, but I can still see how many would see it as unnecessary and problematic.

    Love that cheese dip! My wife and I have been frequenting here for years especially now that we live close bye. The Parrot wings are delicious too as is the fish n chips. Their other restaurant, “The Rampant Lion” is also great! Your server, Libby, is a fixture at the F&P. We love her and always sit at the bar so we can visit with her. The owner is very versed in the history of Britain. We have had some great conversations over the years.

How was the tea it looked like you guys didn't care for it, but that fish looked so good. I'm going to have to check this place out once we go back in June. The following is not the comments of the poster but his British wife(lol) The proper way of tea is that they should pour the boiling water over the tea bags in the tea pot before serving. Next, Rae says that gravy is suppose to come with the Pasty. Lastily, she is not familiar with any pubs with a noose attached to the building, usually they were stand alone structures, so the placement of this here is not proper. My turn now. I agree with the noose comment yet the place looked very nice and food very good. Thank you for adding the last piece of the video, i think it was an important addition. One point, i do not believe in any way, shape or form that this display was meant to disrespect anyone and only added as a part of British history. Thanks family.

    • @SmokyMountainFamily
      @SmokyMountainFamily  2 года назад +1

      Thank you so much Rae. We also believe the display was placed on account of British history. We thought it was important to make this distinction. One example of a London pub with a similar display we found when researching was a place called Prospect of Whitby in the Wapping/Limestone area. At any rate, thank for the info and as always, thanks for watching!

      The Cornish pasty was a traditional lunch for the miners in Cornwall. The thick crust around the hand pie allowed them to hold it by the edge to eat, since their hands were dirty from work. A very tasty treat for us, born out of necessity. Cheers.

    Comments from a British person, living in the UK, the authenticity is a very loose interpretation of what British pub (tavern) food should be, that Cornish Pasty should be banned under trade description. As for the noose, there is only one pub I know of in Britain that has one of those outside, and that is the oldest pub in London, dating back to the 1520’s located at the site of public executions of pirates, I would guess that is where the owners of the Fox and Parrot got their inspiration from, miss-interpreting it as something quintessentially British.

    Brittany's look amazing but felt it needed gravy but that's American. LOL. That fish looked so light but crunchy. Moving onto the noose, yea, it's a no for me. That would turn off any visitors that are black. Not good. Maybe they don't realize it? Everyone I've ever come across in TN are so nice so it's kinda hard to believe they would do that on purpose to create division.

    Trying to copy the cuisine of other countries is never 100% accurate. Look at any Mexican restaurant or Chinese restaurant and it is very Americanized. I've seen American restaurants in other countries that wasn't exactly what we eat. It's their take on it.
    My wife and I will have to check it out when we come down in May.

    @laytonminnix3200 2 года назад +1

    Honestly this country did the same thing to people who broke the Law for various crimes back in those days so I really don't see the point of you bringing this up? If you go to a wild west town you will see a Noose Hanging to show how they dealt with crime! To stop the video was wrong and for you to bring up the past was wrong as well! People can decide for themselves if they would have noticed that in the video and they would damn have sure seen it when they went there so why did you feel the need to get involved in it and possibly cost that Business Customers? Remember you guys are Food Reviewers not Politicians and just stick to that please!!

    • @SmokyMountainFamily
      @SmokyMountainFamily  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for your take Layton. Our reasoning had nothing to do with politics. Our intent was to show that the display of the gallows had a historical significance in British history that is completely disconnected from how many may see it here in the states. We stated many times in the video that the food, experience and service was some of the best we’ve had in the area. If someone goes to this restaurant off our recommendation and seen this without the knowledge of its connection to British history they would likely be taken aback by it. We thought addressing it would be better for the business than worse. But again thanks for your take and for watching.

  • @Tedbrick
    @Tedbrick 2 года назад +2

    As to be expected, I personally found the gallows as very off-putting. Gatlinburg is a touristy town and even though that’s a part of British and even American history it probably shouldn’t be on prominent display. The owners I’m sure are not concerned with earning the dollar from those who would be offended by it. In my opinion, and I could be wrong, most times these sort of things are used as a double entendre.

    • @SmokyMountainFamily
      @SmokyMountainFamily  2 года назад

      This is exactly why we mentioned it. Even though it could be solely intended for its reference to British history, certain patrons could see it differently. We wouldn’t have wanted to promote this place, and have someone see it through this lens due to our recommendation without this caveat. We wanted to put include the information both for the sake of the restaurant, and our viewers, in hopes of doing right by both.
      On another note, love the use of entendre. Are you by any chance a Jay-Z fan? Lol.
