    • @SportbikerNZ
      @SportbikerNZ  2 года назад +6

      @@MrKkdkk I prefer gear driven cams given how trouble free they've been on the MC22. When engineered properly they are set-and-forget, no need to open the motor for chain replacement.
      I can't compare except what I've seen on paper. Both have the same horsepower. The MC22 is much lighter at 158kg vs zx25r 180kg. Twin brake discs on MC22 vs single on the Ninja.
      ZX25r quickshifter would be nice to have, and the foot peg height is probably higher.

    I miss my old 4 cylinder CBR250 I used to rev it like this every day and it never broke down. Mine was the MC17 blue, white, red with twin discs and red wheels 1987 model, red line was 18,000 rpm. it did 90 kph (55 mph) in first gear and topped out at 180 kph (110mph) None of the new CBR's have the screaming character of the old bikes. Bring back 4 cylinder 250's!

      The latest CBR250RR is well made. The design is amazing. The technology and features is almost like big bikes. But the only problem it is 2 cylinders. Honda missed a big chance to dominate the world in 250cc with their screaming inline 4 which was in their older CBR250RR( the same bike model in the video). Even with 2 cylimders,they still beat the latest Ninja ZX25R eventhuough the ninja has 4 cylinders. Just imagine if they made the CBR with 4 cylinders,seriously,there will be no rival. I was dissapointed a bit but still bought it and now im happy. No complains whatsoever. Every single thing is very good but damn i miss that inline 4 screaming sound man. Its unbeatable.
      Im talking strictly about 250cc only. Please dont bring in bigger displacement bikes in this conversation because i didnt talk about them and it will not be fair for 250cc.

      do realize it's much easier to corner on a small and nimble bike, right?
      Not only much easier, but SO MUCH EASIER. a 250 could beat any 600 on a very twisty mountain road.
      Not just could, but SHOULD, with any semi competitive rider....

    • @uncleputes
      @uncleputes 9 лет назад

      TheSpyChecker Although if you over brake for corners, it's harder to regain speed unlike riding a more powerful bike, I wouldn't say it's easy, I'd say it's different, although it's a light bike, it's unsprung weight isn't to good add lack of power and that's a bad combination....My RR is basically stock and I find myself going up against much bigger bikes often, I can only stay ahead in the technical sections but when the road straightens up they just reel me in like I was stood still.

    • @TheSpyChecker
      @TheSpyChecker 9 лет назад +1

      Oh no doubt. The twistier the road is, the easier it will be to go quicker on a 250.
      But get a skilled rider on a 600 and you'll stand no chance.
      I won't even mention straights, as obviously more torque = faster.

    • @uncleputes
      @uncleputes 9 лет назад

      TheSpyChecker That's why riding an underpowered bike makes you a better rider, you have no room for error hahaha....That being said, I will be getting a CBR1000RR when I'm on my full license hahaha

    • @TheSpyChecker
      @TheSpyChecker 9 лет назад

    Thanks. I'm using Michelin pilotpowers road sport (single compound). Found them to be excellent. Suspension was bone stock until recently. I'm 68 kg so it suits me quite well. However the front did start to bottom in a few spots under heavy braking so have increased the fork oil level just recently. I haven’t really had the opportunity to test the new setup fully though.

    That guy on the R6 wasn't a slouch, either. Very good riding here!
    Are the R6's there limited due to license restrictions there or something? I would have thought he walked harder coming out of the turns.

    • @EndTimeDreams
      @EndTimeDreams 8 лет назад +2

      The R6 is not restricted in New Zealand. The CBR rider is just very good

    • @MrSlowestD16
      @MrSlowestD16 8 лет назад

      But it's restricted in Europe, right? Hard to keep track of which countries restrict bikes and which ones don't. Though Aus & NZ did power restrictions?
      I meant in the straight lines though, the R6 barely seemed to pull away in a straight after the turn (where rider doesn't make much difference). Power seemed a bit low for an R6.

    • @EndTimeDreams
      @EndTimeDreams 8 лет назад +1

      They have a list of learner or LAMS approved motorcycles in New Zealand. Its all measured on power to weight ratio. You cannot buy an 600cc 4 cylinder bike in NZ without a full motorcycle license. You can however ride up to a 650cc bike on a learner license as long as the bike is a twin or single cylinder as they have a low power output. Also, 2 stroke road race type bikes even 250cc are prohibited until you get your full license. The 250 cc fours are quite surprising off the line, I had a CBR250r and my friend had a GSXR-400R, we were even to about 60 km/h then his mid-range power left me for dead. Maybe this R6 rider is not revving his bike hard until 2nd or third? I know R6's are pretty quick, my friend had one when I had an R1.

    • @MrSlowestD16
      @MrSlowestD16 8 лет назад +1

      Gotcha, thanks for the explanation! Here in the US there's no restrictions on any bikes - the result is a lot of people quitting riding after < 6 months when they high side their first 600cc or 1000cc sport bike due to some whisky throttle or similar, lol.
      Def. possible he's not winding it out all the way, would make sense speed wise.

    • @SportbikerNZ
      @SportbikerNZ  5 месяцев назад +1

      Ignore ABS for track. Unless it's one of the latest, sophisticated systems on some flagship super bikes, it'll slow your lap times down bad.
      Brake hard. When rear wheel gets floaty you're doing it right (track riding)
      For street, very few people with ABS have ever braked hard enough to have it activate on the front wheel. I personally don't care about it, but can understand newbies being concerned. The basic ABS systems on many bikes kicks in far too early for my liking. My ninja 400's ABS kicked in dangerously early during hard braking over bumps, sending me wide. I couldn't stand it, so disabled it. I wouldn't recommend a newbie do that though.

    My goodness..these old bikes are really hard to handle (compared to the r3, ninja 300, ktm rc390, etc) but you handled it like it was nothing... Not sure about the cbr 250rr but when i corner my fzr i can feel both tires slip a little..it's ok though coz you can control it and doesnt do anything more dangerous (i think) but really hard to get used to.or i'm probably just a bad rider :(

    Is this bike still with you? How are the valve clearance? I'm thinking of getting ZX2R(because only that available in my country) but not quite sure yet

    • @SportbikerNZ
      @SportbikerNZ  6 лет назад

      I still own this bike which has now done over 110,000k's and runs well. Valve clearances were checked at 50 and 100k. At both checks I was told the clearances were within tolerance, no need for adjustment.

    You seems to brake much later, and carry a lot more entry speed into almost all the turns. Indicates a. Rider Skill, b. Confidence in the bike. Heard of the legendary 250RR's, seeing one in action is a joy!

      Normally it sits around the "E" in 20 degree ambient. This vid would have been around summer with ambient 25 + thrashing, so it got up there a bit.

    Hey man how was your suspension and brakes during this race. I don't think I can keep up with 600s because my mc22 is quite old and brakes feel really squishy and suspension is completely shot ):

    • @SportbikerNZ
      @SportbikerNZ  10 лет назад

      Using Michelin pilotpower road sport - single compound tire. Have found them excellent on the 250 and have been through a few sets to confirm it.

    what tyres are you using? i've also got a 1991 mc22 in the same colours as yours. ive looked to no avail but would you know if there are carbon fibre rims for them? awesome video the guy on the r6 must be mightily peeved that a 250 was keeping up to him

    • @SportbikerNZ
      @SportbikerNZ  5 лет назад

      I was using Michelin pilot road sport at the time of this video. Those were discontinued so I'm now using s21 tires which are a step down in performance, but still pretty good. S22 tires have just been released so I may try them next. I haven't seen any carbon rims, but haven't looked much to be honest.

    Hello,
    Really nice video. I didn't realize this little bike can be so much fun!
    I am getting one myself as a first bike. They seem to be pretty rare now in Europe. Not sure if it is because no one wants to sell or they are getting too old.
    Can you recommend something to explicitly look for when buying it - like things that are well known to go bad after some years?
    Thanks!

    • @sportbikernz6688
      @sportbikernz6688 9 лет назад

      Radoslav Stefanov They are great bikes. Nothing particular to look out for. The motors are very solid and no cam chain tensioning to worry about as they use gear driven cams. Check the oil level and go for a ride. If the footpeg and handgrip rubber is very worn it may have gone around the clock - over 100,000 k's.
