Unfortunately I don't have a machine currently. You need to get the machine open to the point you have access all around the boilers. Then you need to unscrew the steam valve and wand and lift it out of the way. You then need to bore out the hole that the wand goes through. This needs to increase enough to allow the new fitting that goes between the stream valve and the Rancilio Silvia v3 ball joint wand. The fitting you need is 3/8bsp male to 1/4bsp female. Then put it all back together. The only other thing is that you need to raise the height of the feet on the machine or you won't have enough clearance under the wand to get jugs in and out. You need something that raises it about 2-3 cm. Good luck. If I do another one I will do a step you step guide on my channel.

Unfortunately these machines are 240v. I think they were available in the US though. You should be able to find an expression mechanic in the US that could install an upgraded wand.
I have this machine with the stock steam wand. For some reason, it shoots water out of the wand when I go to brew an espresso. Any idea what could be causing this? Kitchenaid unfortunately no longer makes this machine so their offer against the warranty was replacing it with a much cheaper semi-automatic machine 😔
@@espressorestomelbourne1735 Thanks for the response, looks like you are correct. I took the cover off to inspect it and the housing where the wand is was full of water and what looks like some mold. It must have been doing this from the factory because I've had this problem from day one. Condensation also gets into my temperature gauges as well. Do you know if it is very difficult to change the valve or what type of part I should look for? Thanks so much!
Great vid! Do you remember how much you had to turn the 5mm hex for opv adjustment? Just got one of these in the US as a hand me down and want to adjust the pressure.
hay mate, i just got the machine as a birthday gift some how my wife founded although its been discontinued in Canada, i think i have an issue in the machine and i dont want to return it, for some reason both my gauges are not working , did you ever face such a thing and do you know what i should check?
I have replaced one gauge before apparently they are not the most reliable part. You can get replacement gauges but they are a little pricey. I think I might have paid 70AUD. They are purely aesthetic and provide no functional benefit, they are passive and do not control anything.
That is a shame. I guess when they were released the espresso scene in the US was not like it is now. It would theoretically be possible to use Gaggia 110V parts to convert a KA 240V machibe to 110V. You would need to know your electrician engineering but definitely possible. Good luck.
@@tonygibbons5 I did some looking and found a unit on EBay, but also read some criticisms of the quality, not modded as the one shown here. I’m still looking. Thanks Tony
Easier, you can access the OPV without removing the lid. You take out the water thank and you use a 5mm Hex key up through the opv drain hole towards the back. Some machines might have a plastic drain funnel in the way. In that instance, you will need to go into the machine and move it before you can access the OPV adjustment screw.
@@espressorestomelbourne1735 wow thanks for this reply mate. Somehow I completely missed it at the time. Hi! I have a question. I have an espresso machine like that. Have replaced gaskets and all that standard failing stuff a year ago. I have a new problem now. I descaled the machine yesterday, but now suddenly the steam boiler empties itself while heating up. So if I manually fill up the steam boiler (open valve and push the hot water button) and close the steam valve again, after a couple seconds the steam boiler is just empty (no idea where the water went) and no steam coming out. Also if I put in the blind Portafilter for getting out the coffee oils, the overpressure valve is not kicking in, it’s just running and running (again no idea where that water is going to). I hope it’s understandable what I wrote and maybe you’ve heard of this problem before? Thanks in advance. Alex
Water is probably going back into the tank from steam boiler. Probably an issue with the solenoid valve. If you just descsled maybe something came loose and has jammed the valve open? Definitely sounds like you need a service. Where are you located?
I thinknyou can work on it. Just the usual precautions, let it cool down, make sure it is unplugged from wall. You might need new o-rings once you take the solenoid off the steam boiler. Get yourself 2 Gaggia Classic service kits from Espresso Shop in UK and replace the o-rings throughout if you have it that far apart. Good luck. I wish I could help but am in Australia. I know some good espresso mechanics in UK but not Germany. Are you on the Gaggia Classic Facebook Group? Lots of help there from people all over the world.
