When your butt starts rolling up off the seat during the leg press at the bottom you transfer a lot of the weight directly onto, and compromise, your lumbar spine. Do not come down too low on those or pay the price with a disc injury. Great videos on this channel as always. Thank You.
I've noticed that pretty much no fitness creator cares about the spine it's like they think it's a muscle that can take pretty much anything rather than a series of flimsy hollow bones connected by thin strips of cartilage, the same cartilage that can get broken by a measly punch in the nose, not to mention the fact that it's a chain of links and not just one solid mass which makes it even worse.

@@earthling256 So I had to take a break from lifting once I got into my third trimester of pregnancy. I haven’t been under a bar in about 2 months. I will say that before I took a break I was hitting PRs almost every week and even after 2 months of very little training, my glutes are still quite developed. I can’t wait to get back at it once the baby is born, at which point I plan on following Dr. Mike’s protocol once again.

My hr is up just watching her! As a fellow female lifter, she's such an inspiration! I take pride in my rom and have been steadily increasing the weights as I gain strength, really enioying the feeling of pushing myself over pure numbers. I hope to one day have muscles like hers! 😍
Thank you Evelyn and the RP team! Having a fit woman demonstrate these exercises was probably mostly for viewer enjoyment, but it really helps me see and understand things. I am trying to rebuild my glutes because years of spending all my time either sitting down or standing with forced bad ergonomics at work left me so stiff and weak that I almost couldn't walk. Very painful. Physical therapy "glute bridges" were totally worthless for me, so videos like this are my only good resource.
One of the most humbling leg days I have done in a long time! Thank you for sharing. I did struggle with the good mornings. I can’t wait to see my soreness tomorrow!
Regarding 1:48 I'd recommend against letting your feet come out as you go down. It's better to use the lightly loaded beginning of the warmup trying different foot placements to find one that rings all the recommended bells, then sticking with it. Changing foot placement as you go down could injure you.
I did only sumo squats because it felt better for my body type, I did it also because it mimiced my boxing style too, and my glutes blew up, Ive always had developed glutes because I played sports and ran like hell, but the sumo squats had my glutes hurting after every training sesh,
My default squat is sumo. I have done most of this for 10 years. I still saw a nice progress when I introdiu hipthrusts. I specially like HT for when my back is not at is best bc there is no vertical load on my spine.
Wow! Hats off, you can tell she pushed hard af, and her rom and the pace at what she did the exercises 😮😮😮... I'll probably rewatch it because it was an insane workout
For lunges it is pretty good idea to use med ball and hold in front of you with rounded upper back. It makes whole movement more glute focused than anything else. It works very well with individuals with pelvic anteversion.
I've got some joint-related limitations and I've got to be careful how I lift. I used to watch Mike's videos and think about how much my joints would hurt from full rom, but I still want to build muscle. What I've noticed is that slow eccentric and getting a great stretch at the bottom of the movement with a short pause (using reasonable weights) allows me to take advantage of those techniques while simultaneously minding how my joints feels and keeping my technique on point.
I’m a fitness coach and bodybuilding specialist and been at it for like feel like forever and I swear I learn so much from these guys it’s like cheating, thanks guys.
How do you know that pushing through the "nodding-no" won't cause a pulled muscle or some other injury? That's what I tend to be afraid of when pushing myself.
As long as your form stays consistent through the pain and you’ve properly warmed up it shouldn’t be an issue. Most people hurt themselves because they let their form break down when the reps get difficult. I push myself to failure often and rarely injure myself. (And when I do it’s always because I let my form get away from me)
Her range of motion on those squats are really good. Not just the depth but how wide her hips were when squatting. Though I get not everyone can do that due to their hip socket anatomy.
Whenever I played sports I was always told I had a huge ass. After I was done with sports, my ass went away. I kept on working out, but never had quite the same ass. I realized the common denominator was sumo squats, because that’s how I always used to squat in the weight room. Re-introduced sumo squats, and my ass came right back. FWIW, I have also introduced some hip thrusts, and I feel like they have been a good addition. I feel a connection to my glutes on those like no other.
This/she has inspired me to hire a coach/trainer and/or push myself, really cook my muscles, get that deep burn. What an awesome workout... and she's a beautiful beast 💪 ❤️ 🔥
We need something about programming for a natural lifter. How much volume should we do? Are 10-20 intense sets per week for the glutes enough? Or can the glutes handle more for more people?
Great video. Although, for some people, I would be very careful arching your back on squats, even if it's light weight. I've had to see a physio for a few months with back pain on my right side from which he thinks I've been arching at the gym, and not even in an exaggerated way either. He said we have been conditioned to arch our back but there's not much evidence to suggest it's beneficial, if anything, bad.
Everytime I try to find an horizontal press for booty but I've never thought of getting some matts on the lower back to force the glute to work on the regular leg pres. thanks for the tip. Also, I don't do hip thrust because of a back surgery a while ago. so, thanks for this info.
@@anadavalos3212 I gotta tell you, I've been hip thrusting for 2.5 years, I only recently started barbell squatting and deadlifting (rdl) and my glutes took shape much faster in a few months vs the hip thrusting.
@@angelalynn1979I caught that one, it was a relief to learn that I could still make progress without them - I thought I was missing out by not doing them.
@@GoldenFrizbee makes sense glutes respond best to exercises that are the hardest when the muscle is in its lengthened position (split squats, squats, rdls, lunges etc). Hip thrusts are the hardest when the glutes are in the shortened position, can be super helpful but not ideal for growth. However I would still include them in a program because they can help tremendously with perfecting the hip hinge and learning to primarily use your glutes for rdls, good mornings etc rather than lower back or hamstrings.

Dr. Mike, Big fan and follower of the channel for years now. Been using both apps and I really appreciate everything you’ve done. I’m a BJJ blue belt and recently tore my pec major tendon defending and arm and I’ll be getting operated in a week. I’ll be out of gym/bjj for half a year at least. My question is: once I’m healthier, should I train my healthy upper body (left side) + legs or should I completely wait until I can train both and just take the L for the next few months and focus where I can.
I know I ain’t Mike, but never stop training. Find work around, train the unaffected side and the lower body. Training the unaffected side will limit the atrophy in the affected side while recovering. Obviously, listen to a sports medicine doctor since I am a random username on RUclips.
Holy shiitake, I did sumo squats and followed these cues you gave her. The one about sitting back when you feel yourself leaning forward was a huge help. I’ve never felt more confident squatting - which is why it was always my least favorite lift.

I felt all that. Great stuff. Also, Jared clearly practices what he's preaching. I need to do what he's doing.
Regarding 1:48 I'd recommend against letting your feet come out as you go down. It's better to use the lightly loaded beginning of the warmup trying different foot placements to find one that rings all the recommended bells, then sticking with it. Changing foot placement as you go down could injure you.
I'd love a "best glute workout for bad knees" video. All these videos for glutes seem to put a lot of pressure on my very bad knees. =(
!!
I did only sumo squats because it felt better for my body type, I did it also because it mimiced my boxing style too, and my glutes blew up, Ive always had developed glutes because I played sports and ran like hell, but the sumo squats had my glutes hurting after every training sesh,
Hell yeah
A coach that pushes you like this!!! It’s amazing 😊
Have to say absolutely love the RP hypertrophy app seriously helps my focus and to stay on track, brilliant work putting it together 👏
It's not just admiring their beauty, but more about the hard work that it takes.. always inspiring to push myself harder..
My default squat is sumo. I have done most of this for 10 years. I still saw a nice progress when I introdiu hipthrusts. I specially like HT for when my back is not at is best bc there is no vertical load on my spine.
I had tears in my eyes after watching this and I wasn't even training! Thats hard core!
Props to the work she put in. She is a beast
3:52 I was looking for cooper but found gold
1:20 DAMN JARED! Anybody remembers those classroom globes? 🌏 mans rocking 2 spheres
Wow! Hats off, you can tell she pushed hard af, and her rom and the pace at what she did the exercises 😮😮😮... I'll probably rewatch it because it was an insane workout
The hypertrophy central training hub still recommends having hip thrusts in every meso. I’m not complaining, just pointing it out.
For lunges it is pretty good idea to use med ball and hold in front of you with rounded upper back. It makes whole movement more glute focused than anything else. It works very well with individuals with pelvic anteversion.
I love how they encouraged herrrr! She did amazing!
I've got some joint-related limitations and I've got to be careful how I lift. I used to watch Mike's videos and think about how much my joints would hurt from full rom, but I still want to build muscle.
What I've noticed is that slow eccentric and getting a great stretch at the bottom of the movement with a short pause (using reasonable weights) allows me to take advantage of those techniques while simultaneously minding how my joints feels and keeping my technique on point.
yes! if joint pain is an issue, less weight and very slow on the way down can have a massive effect
Watch out, over long terms you might even defeat your limitations. Joints can get better, especially with controlled eccentric work.
no one gonna talk about Jared's absolute dump truck lmao
She seriously might have been one of the best we've seen so far. AMAZING grit and work ethic
This is beautiful. The definition of the muscles is amazing
I’m a fitness coach and bodybuilding specialist and been at it for like feel like forever and I swear I learn so much from these guys it’s like cheating, thanks guys.
I have this downloaded on my phone to listen to during leg work workouts 💪🏼
That speech at 5:10 always gets me fired up 🔥
I just did this routine at the gym. Not easy y’all are wild 😂 very humbling
One of the best inspiring videos in the training I sow in a long time, just make me go strong.
(And when I do it’s always because I let my form get away from me)
This just might be the top performance of any RP workout I’ve seen. WOW.
She is a beast ! Keep killing it girl🙌🙌
Her range of motion on those squats are really good. Not just the depth but how wide her hips were when squatting. Though I get not everyone can do that due to their hip socket anatomy.
8:24 “so what do you do to stay in shape” I DIED
Mike's a great coach, i love his words during the harder reps
I love it when he asks how they’re feeling and when they say ‘good,’ he’s like, “that’s the last time you’re gonna be saying that.”
We need something about programming for a natural lifter. How much volume should we do? Are 10-20 intense sets per week for the glutes enough? Or can the glutes handle more for more people?
That leg press is easily the best one I've seen, the depth you can get on it is unrivalled.
That was BEAUTIFUL!!!! I learned a lot watching her form and phenomenal mental stregth!❤
Everytime I try to find an horizontal press for booty but I've never thought of getting some matts on the lower back to force the glute to work on the regular leg pres. thanks for the tip.
Also, I don't do hip thrust because of a back surgery a while ago. so, thanks for this info.
Did you see this video from last week about how (paraphrasing), hipthrusts aren’t that great anyway?
@@angelalynn1979still wrapping my head around that. So many people swear by them
@@anadavalos3212 I gotta tell you, I've been hip thrusting for 2.5 years, I only recently started barbell squatting and deadlifting (rdl) and my glutes took shape much faster in a few months vs the hip thrusting.
I found this video very informative and had to do a leg and Hams Workout after watching really trying to use the techniques explained. She has awesome muscle definition and her strength is 👏 thank you very much for posting..
Oooof! So damn inspiring 👏🏼 can’t wait to train tonight 💪🏼
A virtual dr Mike telling me “as if another” should be added to RP hypertrophy app.
Damn Evelyn is an absolute pro! This was really intense to watch cant imagine the strength she needed to push through
Oh my gosh! Evelyn is amazing! A Warrior Goddess for sure! I can't believe how hard she was pushed and was still standing at the end.( My legs would have been shaking all over the place.)
WOW! To this training/ trainers/trainee .
Yoooooo this video just inspired the best leg day I’ve ever had. Motivated by her grit to say the least. I’m an IFFB Fitness division competitor who secretly wants bikini girl glutes. And this workout just destroyed my soul a little bit. Love it love it love it.
I just helped your male:female ratio. You can thank my husband, he's been watching your videos for the last six weeks or so. I would love to go back in time 25 years and start body building with these techniques. I turn 47 in less than a month... I'm gonn try! I'm on week four of implementing methods that I've learned so far! Don't stop kids, pick it up, and work hard. Your future self will thank you.
Joe Sullivan humping the power rack floor... 😂
Anyway great content!
Mike is funny and so motivating. Great workout Evelyn!
Love the explanation of each move 👍
As a woman myself, pure admiration to this lady, she is inspirational and a real champ! You go, girl! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💜
Pretty sure I've been sumo squatting this whole time and didn't realize it.
Me too. Is what feels the most comfortable
I'm somewhere in between the "normal" and "sumo" style. My right hip is a bit wonky and it feels much better to point toes more out and have a wider stance.
This video motivated me to push myself SO much harder in the gym today. THANK YOU 🙌🏼
I'm loving these videos. In fact, I'm going through the whole back catalogue. Brutally awesome leg workout and she handled it like a trooper.. Actually got me pumped to visit the gym today and amazing pointers in all these videos Offtopic - I'm listening to the last track that Mike uses in his videos and the light snare/clap sound in the background has a very strange effect when I'm listening through my audio production headphones.. I can feel it in my nasal cavity and it feels strange as f*ck! My totally random comment of the day.
Evelyn is my new hero! That was impressive and inspiring. Very helpful to watch.
Dr. Mike,
Big fan and follower of the channel for years now.
You seriously expect him to respond to this kind of online question? Take off. Recover. Then go to someone in person, not a RUclips comment
@@natanealtheking1234Mike responds to questions like this all the time. Even if it's just to recommend talking to your doctor. Don't be a prick.
Jared is CAKED UPP... What does HIS Glute/Leg workout look like👀👀
''you think you know, but you don't.'' this hit hard. amazing workout!
I love this kind of workout! Harder you push the better the results. Awesome channel.
About to start my first meso cycle for hypertrophy that I set up myself. This could not have better timing.
Holy shiitake, I did sumo squats and followed these cues you gave her. The one about sitting back when you feel yourself leaning forward was a huge help. I’ve never felt more confident squatting - which is why it was always my least favorite lift.
The way Dr. Mike talks when he wants to motivate her on last reps... Amazing.
Started doing squats like this with 45 kg........It's way way way worse than you can imagine. It's like doing your last rep, getting light headed, having excruciating muscle tension and then have another 5 reps. You just F'ing fight through it
When she said “It’s really hard” I was waiting for Mike to hit back with “Yes I am”
