@@876r876rf If this video gets enough views I would.. it will take some time though, so by then I'm sure you'll be done. After that the wire can run on the driver side all the way to the back, just have to pull the trim at the bottom (next to the fuel door/trunk release).. along with the RCA outs and front speaker wires from the head unit. You can use new speaker wire and wire up the back speakers directly from the amp, and the front can hook into existing wiring from stereo... you'll need a color diagram for the factory stereo wiring to find the front speaker wires, probably available from the12volt.com . I also have a video for taking off the rear seats, you may have to do that, not sure. One thing I'm really not sure is where to get a good ground in the trunk... and I'm guessing you're installing in the trunk?? I’m amazed at how easy the stock removal is. When I upgraded the stereo in my 2006 Corolla, years ago, you had to take out the center console and disassemble a good portion of the dash.
Great video! Very well explained and show how to install. The sound comparison is noticeable different from the original to the upgrade one, the new one sounds a lot better. Keep it up with these great videos!
Hey I just got a corolla s 2015 a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to ask you: Does your AC stops blowing cold air when you get to a stop sign or a red light and then after idling for awhile or driving it blows cold air again? I dont know if thats normal or something going on with either the ac or other part. Thanks
Amps usually take a Line In, which means an unamplified sound source. The stock stereo doesn't have Line Out,.. so adding an amp doesn't really work. Some amps can work off of already amplified output but they won't have good quality and the quality of the stock stereo is not so great, so even if you manage to put in amp, it will be amplifying a low quality sound source. The stereo upgrade is quite costly, but it would be the first thing to do after upgrading the speakers, if better quality is needed, line outs, and of course the mobile connectivity upgrade.
Hello I was upgrading the stereo but I took out the air bag pin now it's showing air bag light check bus traction light it also burnt the stereo fuse and my corolla not changing gear do you know if it's fuse or something major if you can please answer
Awesome tutorial as usual Clever. Been thinking of upgrading for a long time. I have installed a 5 channel amp in my 2015 and the stock headunit is not great. Sound quality is key for me. Was thinking of doing this radio over the chinese big screen ones. Do you lose steering wheel controls to change the music?
Thanks! The Steering Wheel controls will continue working with the CRUX SWRTY adapter, however, Pioneer hasn't mapped them very well when listening to radio. All I can do is change volume, and tune to pre-set radio stations. I can't Seek to a new station. The mode button changes from Radio to Bluetooth, USB.. but can't change between AM/FM from the steering wheel. Answering and hanging up calls also works. I bought this one because I know Pioneer lasts a long time, and I'm not sure about the cheap aftermarkets. I never had a good experience with cheap car audio components. The sound quality is definitely improved with the Pioneer, and I really like being able to tune the sound with the equalizer. Thanks for watching!
Going to try this out, thanks for providing a clear and concise video on how to do this (provides a lot of confidence in my ability to do this at home). do you want to update your pioneer stereo amazon link? Would love to buy using your affiliate link to support your channel, but the current link is broken. Thx!
I'm glad it was helpful, and I updated the link, thanks for letting me know, it's really appreciated! Just so you know how the links work, I think many people don't: Once the link is clicked, it lasts 24 hours, and if the user makes a purchase within that time, the affiliate earns a commission. The user doesn’t have to order the exact item they clicked. As long as they make any purchase within 24 hours of clicking the affiliate link. My stereo is still working great.. There's only one "bug" it has, if the volume button on the steering wheel is pressed up/down while it's booting in the first 3 seconds, it sometimes causes it to freeze and reboot. It's something to do with the CRUX sending the signal before it's ready to process it. Other than that, never froze or had any issues so far.
Does the back-up camera show on the new unit you've put in? I'm looking to replace mine since Toyota is quoting me $3000+ for a brand new radio unit or if I have it exchange it is going to cost me $1000+!
yes, the SWRTY adapter includes backup camera input, so the RCA connector from the car plugs into the SWRTY and it actually has a much better picture than the OEM head unit at night. That's ridiculous $3000.. If you really want another stock one, you can get it from a junk yard very cheap... The sound is way better with Pioneer though.
@@CleverFix I'm definitely leaning towards just updating the whole thing with a touchscreen unit like you did. More sleek and has more options. And way cheaper! I almost dropped to the floor when Toyota said $3000+ for a brand new one and another $100+ for them to install. Like no thank you!
@@ChrisBandaYes the settings are lost unfortunately. I hardly ever changed them so it's ok for me, I'd rather have better sound. I kept the stock unit, so if I ever need to change them, I can put it in temporarily.
@@CleverFix I see, so you kept stock speakers? I get vibration from my rear speakers, I feel like I'll need to change them out when I do my upgrade. Sounds bad especially with bassy music.

No, some people use butt connectors, I added a link in the video description to self-soldering butt connectors. They require a heat gun to melt the solder inside them. Make sure to follow the instructions.
How do you find the sound compared to the old Toyota entune unit? ? Also I heard the usb adapter in the CRUX-SWRTY kit was faulty for a few people did it work well for you?
The USB is working perfectly on mine still, so I think it's a rare thing, but yes I've seen some reviews about that. The sound is WAY better.. More rich and more frequencies. It makes driving more fun for sure. I played around with the equalizer for a while until I got it to the perfect settings for my ears, and I've had it there since. It took a few days of getting adjusted to it.. I was so used to the more "muted" stock stereo.. a lot more highs from this unit. The stock "high" "bass" and "treble" settings are a joke. It was definitely worth the money. I just checked and there's a "used acceptable" and "used - very good" right now on the Amazon link in the description, that are a fairly good price. I've had pretty good luck on the warehouse deals.
@@CleverFix Ok thanks I appreciate the response, that's definitely what I was hoping since I'm about to install a Sony XAV-AX5500 (on sale locally where I am in Canada) + Kicker speakers all around, I can't stand the stock stereo. Last question, I am planning to do a subwoofer amp install in the future so unfortunately that remote turn on wire (blue/white) can only be used for the antenna in the 2014 Corolla since it can only be ran on one circuit? I want good reception but I also want to be able to install an amp in the future thus I was originally planning to maybe leave it unwrapped so I don't need to take off the tape when I install my amp wiring kit later on.
I haven't tested it thoroughly, I'm gonna try it more and get back to you. It connects VIA Bluetooth and USB Cable at the same time. According to the manual it seems to require both. I'm not sure why though, but I'll give it a try without the Bluetooth and see what happens.
Check the description, I used the CRUX SWRTY-61N , I placed an Amazon link there . It creates the "connection" between the car and the stereo and allows steering wheel controls to be kept, as well as reverse camera. And the stock connectors on the car don't need to be cut off. Hope that helps. See more info directly from CRUX: cruxinterfacing.com/product/swrty-61n-radio-replacement-w-swc-oe-rvc-retention-for-toyota-vehicles-2012-up/

i wish i could upgrade to a pioneer unit. Sadly my car has a beats audio soundsystem and important car settings that you make on the stereo which wont work with a different one
Mine did too, it had door lock and light sensitivity settings, but I can live without them. I hardly ever changed them. If I ever really need to, I kept the old stereo and I can put it back in temporarily.. I guess it just depends how important those settings are. The dealer can likely adjust them also through the OBD port, but they'll charge for it.
I went with the newest model Dasaita for my 2015 corolla, super easy to install, the harness was indeed plug and play. However the radio reception is not anywhere near the stock sound, the reception is there but the bass and sound goes in and out. I have been researching and it maybe the antenna amp improperly being connected in the harness. Any suggestions on how to remedy this?
Can you ask the manufacturer if their harness provides power on the antenna amp pin? If it doesn't hopefully they can advise you on how to do that. I am not familiar with that stereo sorry. I am familiar with the sound without the amp working though, because I initially did not connect it. It was fading in/out even on the best stations while driving, and the weaker stations were not picking up at all. Once I got the amp powered, everything became as good as with the stock radio.
I reached out and am underwhelmed with Dasaita's support they are very slow to respond and the responses are general and vague. Their wiring harness does not provide power to the antenna amp pin from what I gather from the responses I got. There is power on the other connector, which also has an antenna connection on it but I think it was for a motorized antenna not a signal amplifier and I have not been able to get any advise from them on correcting this issue. Any suggestions of how to go about doing this? I have been researching but no luck so far on a specific thing to do. I don't want to cause another issue.
@@JasonWatkins-p8d At 4:32 in the video, I show the antenna connector that came with the CRUX SWRTY-61N. It has two wires. One is for the signal, and one is for the booster. So the Dasaita must have a similar connector to that at 4:32, but does it have one wire, or two? If it's only one wire, then the booster wire and pin are missing. A car audio shop should be able to sell and install that connector for you on the Dasaita, it should be a common part.
@@CleverFix There is actually 2 wires. I chatted with someone from Cruchfield and got some further insight on diagnosis. When I checked the antenna connector the large metal single pin spun around and the wires inside the plug seemed loose so the problem may be the connector itself. I uninstalled the the new unit and reinstalled the factory unit and everything worked as it should. I ordered a new connector and will try replacing the connector and see if it fixes it. I did a factory reset of the new unit disabled external amps in the menu and it seemed to make it slightly better but the reception signal still seams weak. Thank you for your suggestions, it helped me along the way for sure! Much appreciated!
No, the vehicle settings are only available on the factory stereo. I don't really need to change anything ever, I'm happy with the usual settings, but I kept the stock stereo just in case. If I ever need to change something, I can always re-install it temporarily. And if I ever want to sell the car for example, I can also pop it right back in, and keep my stereo for the next car.
@@emacrz2561Yes, unfortunately only the OEM head unit can interface with the vehicle to change settings. For certain things, like Door lock settings, some Corollas are programmable through a specific sequence of presses of buttons on the door itself .. but for headlight settings and other things, only the head unit can do it. I also believe the dealer can change any settings, without the head unit installed, but they'd charge for it. The only thing I really miss is the fuel efficiency graph.. I can live with the same door/headlight settings.
Sorry I didn't get the time. It's super simple though, the A-pillar video is pretty much all that's needed. ruclips.net/video/bDzc7cpNY7I/видео.html I double side taped it on the windshield at the top.. Make sure to glue it somewhere where it doesn't obstruct your view if you're picky.. I don't like seeing the black blob in the way t all... This was asked in another comment, so I'll just reply the same reply: "Possible short circuit somewhere.. Could be the USB cable is bad, or sometimes the error can show if the speakers are shorted, the terminals of the speakers shouldn't touch any of the car's body, if they do it can short them. I'd take the USB cable out, see if it still happens, and if it happens, then disconnect the speakers one by one.. the rear is easiest to start with." Hope that helps! The other poster never replied back, so I'm guessing it worked for him.
Good question. For 2014-2016 it will work as shown in the video. I believe it will work on some later years as well, but I haven't tried. You can contact CRUX directly here: cruxinterfacing.com/product/swrty-61n-radio-replacement-w-swc-oe-rvc-retention-for-toyota-vehicles-2012-up/ and ask which products are compatible with your model. I am familiar with the sound without the amp working though, because I initially did not connect it. It was fading in/out even on the best stations while driving, and the weaker stations were not picking up at all. Once I got the amp powered, everything became as good as with the stock radio.
@@CleverFix Thank you! I am reaching out to Dasaita now, hopefully they have a solution. I have been researching and have not found a way to fix this.
Will the backup camera still work?
Yes, backup camera input is at 6:45 . It will look a lot better at night too, less grainy. Daytime is similar.
Can you still change the vehicle settings with the new head unit?
No, the vehicle settings are only available on the factory stereo. I don't really need to change anything ever, I'm happy with the usual settings, but I kept the stock stereo just in case. If I ever need to change something, I can always re-install it temporarily. And if I ever want to sell the car for example, I can also pop it right back in, and keep my stereo for the next car.
@@CleverFixso there's nothing aftermarket that can change the car settings? We're stuck with OEM fot that matter?
@@emacrz2561Yes, unfortunately only the OEM head unit can interface with the vehicle to change settings. For certain things, like Door lock settings, some Corollas are programmable through a specific sequence of presses of buttons on the door itself .. but for headlight settings and other things, only the head unit can do it. I also believe the dealer can change any settings, without the head unit installed, but they'd charge for it. The only thing I really miss is the fuel efficiency graph.. I can live with the same door/headlight settings.
Did you do a video for the mic installation? I'm installing mine tomorrow!
It can be placed in such a way that it's not visible at all. The dash side cover just pops off and the wire goes through easily, then I used some zip ties.
Also make sure to tape the wire to the existing wires in the A-Pillar so it doesn't obstruct the airbag.
Thanks for the reminder also, I'll try to get it done soon.. it's useful for Mic or Dashcam as well.
thanks for getting bak to me so quickly! will let you know how it all goes!
@CleverFix Any idea what would cause a USB overcurrent caution?
I read some reviews on this and it keeps coming up as this unit is not a WIRELESS carplay. is that true?
I haven't tried it with Apple, but it looks like it needs USB connection from the manual: www.pioneerelectronics.com/StaticFiles/Manuals/Car/OPM_DMH1700NEXUC_EN_A.pdf
Excelent video
Is your car radio still working?
Yes, it's working great, Pioneer is a very reliable brand, that's why I picked it.
@@CleverFix thank you I just installed mines today and I love it. you made it so easy but my boyfriend don’t listen so I keep using your video as a guide.
@@MrsOneOfAKind16 Wow, that's amazing.. I'm glad it was easy to understand & thanks for watching! I love the stereo too, it has great sound, and it makes driving much more enjoyable.
Wowwww amazing
Does the usb that came with the car still work and can it be used as a wired connection for apple car play?
Yes, the CRUX SWRTY-61N retains the USB function. The connector is at 6:04 in the video. That connector plugs into the car wiring and the back of the stereo. Yes it can be used as a wired connection for Carplay.
See page 32 from the DMH1770NEX for connecting CarPlay with USB, it's very simple:

@@CleverFix great thank you.
Hey I recently tried to install this
And I get the message usb overcurrent
What does that mean?
What can I do to fix it?
I have a 2014 toyota corolla
And I used the same radio in description.
This was asked in another comment, so I'll just reply the same reply:
"Possible short circuit somewhere.. Could be the USB cable is bad, or sometimes the error can show if the speakers are shorted, the terminals of the speakers shouldn't touch any of the car's body, if they do it can short them. I'd take the USB cable out, see if it still happens, and if it happens, then disconnect the speakers one by one.. the rear is easiest to start with."
Hope that helps! The other poster never replied back, so I'm guessing it worked for him.
Okay
I am unable to find any videos of the radio I have in my 2015 Corolla. My radio does not have knobs.
Sounds like somebody has already upgraded it.. did you buy the car new? Stock stereo has knobs.
@@CleverFix It turns out my son upgraded the radio. Thanks for replying though.
Do I need a data link?
Good question. For 2014-2016 it will work as shown in the video. I believe it will work on some later years as well, but I haven't tried. You can contact CRUX directly here: cruxinterfacing.com/product/swrty-61n-radio-replacement-w-swc-oe-rvc-retention-for-toyota-vehicles-2012-up/ and ask which products are compatible with your model. They say 2012-2019 Corolla, but Crutchfield does not display the SWRTY on 2017+. See: www.crutchfield.ca/p_130DM1770/Pioneer-DMH-1770NEX.html
and select your car, for compatible parts.
It's odd that Crux lists more years than Crutchfield does.
Thanks for watching!
