if they worked good for trotlines then it would be good for a commercial catfisherman who does trotlines.. sadly we have skipjacks here in western ky so that gizzard shad is basically trash.. they dont catch that good. i catch more on yellow tail small shad then gizzard but skipjack is the best here. they do work decently at the dam on a pole though.
Shad aren’t edible. Their defense mechanism is to crap and shed scales which makes them weaker and as soon as they are dead, they start rotting very quickly. There isn’t any useable meat on them anyway. They are only good as forage for fish and bait.
